Does anyone even take Akara, the slowpoke governor of Oyo State, serious?? Akara is perhaps no better than all the destitute for he is in a position to make a positive difference but what good news is coming from Oyo. . .even since his naira-sharing and amala 'father' kicked the bucket??  undecided undecided

Fashola -- doing and seen to be doing something

Akala may be another nincompoop, but that is no excuse for the deportation of human beings, and Nigerians, in this manner!

This debate is only taking place because so far the "deportees" have been from a neighbouring Yoruba state. If this was done to a northern state, then we can be sure of another bloodbath. Cos they tend to pick up arms easily and senselessly in the north than in the south.

This event is similar to the events that preceded the first military coup, counter coup and the civil war, with ibos being killed in the north, and subsequent retaliation on their parts.
The layman interpretation of this policy is that of tribalism. Fashola has no constitutional, conventional, moral or political right to deport any citizen from Lagos to another part of the country. He is indirectly asking for what is costly. At a price I m sure he is not willing to pay.

The educated, illustrious and well to do southerners (of all southern tribes) living in the north (who have made the north home for several decades) will be the worst losers. Recent massacres against northern based xtians in recent past attests to this.

Fashola should think this through. Why not just criminalise begging by making it illegal and then "informally" ask the beggars to relocate to their states of origin with indirect aids. Else another mad event (through reactions and counter reactions)is in store for Nigeria.
