State Dept lists Nigeria as a country with serious security concerns. American investors will not invest in Nigeria because Jayz and co visited Nigeria. Jayz cannot change the perception of Corporate America with regard to Nigerian insecurity and infrastructure.

The difference is that Jayz was paid to perform in Nigeria, while an investor is not going to be paid, he is a risk taker, so does not want to compound his risks with insecurity. Even the hip pop community will not jump on the bandwagon to visit Nigeria. Someone is going to pick up the tab. Jayz cannot even persuade Def Jam to   open an office in Nigeria if there is no market.

The reason why I asked you to state the sectors that require DFI is for us to know what the DFI will bring to the table.

You stated Health - now, do you honestly believe that Nigeria cannot revitalize the health sector completely without foreign investors?

You seem to forget that the problem we have in Nigeria does not run in a straight line. From corruption to incompetence to lack of sincerity of purpose.

The government has failed to protect its citizens, instead they protect foreigners who come in here and rip Nigerians off.

As regards Vodacom you mentioned I hope you understand that Vodacom initially rejected any form of business dealing in Nigeria until its position in Africa was threatened by MTN that made a profit in 1 year that surpassed what it made in SA for 5 years.

What was responsible for that? Have you forgotten that Vodacom wanted to get into the Nigerian market through the back door but for litigations and serious objections up to international level?

Correct me if I am wrong, I believe that Nigeria does not need DFI to make progress. I am equally aware that text book stuff and economic gurus may differ based on what they read. My little contribution to this thread is this-went home after a while to see for my self.The only thing working are NAFDAC and EFCC.Period.Theres no visible sign of governance at the local state and federal levels. Why are we calling ourselves names.OBJ is deluded,hes got delusions of grandeur and considers himself as an international statesman-but what do we have here-double digit soaring inflation,massive unemployment,derilict and decrepit infrastructure, relentless unnecessary retrenchment,pensions not being paid,hunger and starvation. I have read the originator's paragraph, however the reasoning behind is fundamentally flawed. He is attempting to single out OBJ from the whole crop of political leadership, thats really impossible.

OBJ's "so called"achievements (which i give him credit for) is in the area of structural change which is a painful and long process, it might translate to gains in the long run but again thats if it is sustained, so really it is a gamble - Nigeria wise

Please look at the figures for 7 years (the fmf site) we cannot point to any meaningful development infrastructurally look at capital expenditure, where are the capital projects, Do a little execercise, download and calculate how much has accrued to the Federal Govt , where are these funds??. Please lets not deceive ourselves the funds are still not utilised efficiently. While not accusing OBJ directly he is responsible for his govt, whether OBJ or his cohorts theres still a missing link.

Look at the man "OBJ" does he understand the structural change he seeks to introduce to what extent does he understand the english that Soludo, Bode Agusto, Okonjo-Iweala, etc speak "macro economic stability", fiscal discipline, blah blah , does he really understand the workings, the complexities involved, the best he can understand is "debt forgiveness" & "foreign investment" which he has tried to sell and sell vigorously he has (cos thats what he understands).

For those of us suggesting an increase in foreign investment has been achieved i ask, "Is that the main tool of economic development?? NO, infact it is a byproduct of economic development, nobody will invest in an econmy where its own citizens are not confident in investing. What we are witnessing now is childs play compared to what we will experience if we get our acts together.

In addition most of us in this forum (average age of btw 15-35 maybe less 30) cannot effectively compare OBJ with any regime pre-IBB. I therefore disagree with the statement, OBJ is the best president Nigeria has ever had, we just dont know, we cant tell, we just can not compare, maybe our parents can argue that.

I keep on raising this issues with Nigerians as mush as i can, lets be very careful in accepting mediocrity, statements like the man stole but did something is totally unacceptable, we are inherently (unknowingly) accepting the culture of stealing.

If your "parent" told you about the good of Muhammad Buhari, then you must be a very young
individual, not that there is anything wrong with that, but it sort of weakens your argument,

Also, some of your points are reasonable but simply blaming Obasanjo for each time some
idiotic zealot in the north wants to foment religious riots by targeting Igbos or people from
the south is dishonest. We might as well blame Obasanjo for introducing Sharia to Zamfara

OBJ has achieved a lot. He has also disachieved or unachieved a lot more than he has achieved.
Bushfellow mentions 13 of his failures. But the most important issue at the time of the 1999 election and interestingly is still now is the "economy." And on that note, we are worse than when he met us. How do I arrive at that conclusion, simple. We are paying more for everything now while getting less for everything than we used to before May 29 1999.
If in doubt, go to the market and ask them to show you their books.

On another note, more innocent people have died following OBJ's inability to manage internal security which is the second biggest issue in this country now. Want to argue, go to a newspaper and ask them to give you their library key to do a research on death tolls since he entered office.

Employment and Education are third on the list of issues affecting Nigeria and OBJ is busy address reforms and corruption. It only confirms the saying of one American philospher "politicians are the same most times, they promise to build a bridge where there is no river."

Statistically speaking we are paying 160% more for everything than we did before OBJ came in. More people have died as a result of poor security management, incompetence at addressing security needs of the people. Only during the war did more people die than the number which has died since 1999 till date following ethnic clashes. More people have been entrenched and the number of school leavers unable to get jobs have beome 84% since 1999.

These are facts and they appear in our papers only we do not read them.
They are self evident and confirm that OBJ is the WORST we ever had and IBB is second to him but the two are no good and we must resist or refuse whatever plan or reforms both have.

Actually, Iyke, I know from very very reliable sources that OBJ plays a major role in all the impeachment saga in the country. Make no mistake, he's the invisible hand rocking the boat whenever there's some impeachment upheavals in any part of the country.

I must have hit a nerve somewhere. I have said it before, the educational system
in Nigeria needs to be overhauled big time. For one, most recent graduates can
not "read". Even when they can read, they can't analyze what they read. Yours
is a clear case of the above. I know it hurts to read, but please re-read my post
to BushFellow and buttress your accusation why I am a low rated human - what
ever that means.

I was not born in the 60's but if I want to lay claim that something in the country
was better in the 60's compare to now, it will help to cite some real facts/data not
because my parents said so. Take a cue from Jaybaba below, though I don't know
where some of his facts came from, but I see where he is going. Its up to me to

People haven’t realized the rigour of Obasanjo’s decisions, Obasanjo as paved the way for another leader to follow up and complete what he has not completed and succeed in what he has failed in, Obasanjo has created a society with more justice than the previous, believe it or not but if Nigeria is blessed with a good president next year it probably be because of OBJ, here is
a list of necessary and vital fundamentals that OBJ’s Admin has put in place.
(I) OBJ’s admin put in place a strong corruption and crime fighting organization (EFCC)
(II) OBJ signed bilateral agreements that will prove vital in the immediate future of this nation
(III) OBJ’s admin made the business atmosphere in Nigeria more transparent thus encouraging investors to invest into the nation and indirectly creation economical opportunities and creating money for the people through created jobs

It's no longer news that we have spies on this board. So I wll not disclose my ''very very reliable'' source in here. Sorry.

Now to your question: Why it took 3 years to get Dariye out (I understand he's been booted out). This is simple enough for political folks on this forum to answer.

Taking a look at the trail of events that led up to his removal from office, (by willing tools in the hands of their master - EFCC, very few members of the SHA, and a sacked judge), it's glaring to all that Dariye fell out of favour with the boss (OBJ). I have said it time and again on this board that many, if not all the governors re-elected on the platform of the PDP were handpicked and not voted for. They were picked by the cabal in the PDP. Some of them felt they could bite the finger that fed them and get away with it. One of such is Dariye. The results is the impeachment gale sweeping across the land.

So, it took this long to get him out because, OBJ wants the impeachment moves to look as ''clean'' as possible and generally acceptable to everyone both in the state and the country in general. This could not be done, hence the use of ''brutal'' force.

Spies? Reliable sources

We will just have to agree to disagree. Methinks its about time we Nigerians raise our
level of thinking a bit, people give Obasanjo way too much credit. I am not a conspiracy
theorist, so I find it hard to believe that essentially nothing happens in Nigeria without
Obasanjo snapping his fingers. I just find it even harder to believe that there are no
ambitious politicians at the state levels who are hell bent on seizing any opportunity to
impeach their sitting governors so as to further their personal political interests, rather
its all about Obasanjo settling scores. Oh well!

Some people just open their mouth and start talking without thinking. How can you justify or compare presidents when you werent even born when some of this leaders were distroying Nigeria? It's like asking my 5 year old kid do you think Bush is the best president USA ever had? A brain of a 5 year old kid when IBB was in office has nothing to talk about about the corruption in Nigeria because all they know is he said she said.

One of my friends once told me I look at issues like a kid. He said I need to understand that issues don't always appear in black and white; sometimes, they have shades of grey in them, and I should be able to accommodate them.

So, I set out to start looking at the ''greyish'' part of issues, so that I would be a[b]''mature'' person[/b]. Over the years, and as I age, I realise that It just did not work with me. I found out that It is the way corrupt people look at issues. The greyish portion of issues does not go down well with my person and I love looking at issues in black and white. Some of my friends have come to that realisation that it's the way I want to live my life, and as such will have to adjust to accommodate me.
