Do not rewrite history about Nixon as that's not true.
Bill Clinton was never charged for anything let alone for a criminal case. He was investigated for perjury but never charged of which the republican majority used to impeach, which was overturned in the Senate. So do not tell stories you don't know anything about it or very little.

No politician in the US or UK especially a cabinet minister or near the position that Saraki hold will be going through a criminal trial and still remained in office, whether he pleaded guilty or not.

A cabinet minister in the UK Chris Humes who lied to the police that it was his wife that was driving their car while speeding and his wife took the blame.
Few years after he left his wife for another woman, his wife went back to the police and told them the truth in revenge and both were charged by the police for lying..

The minister not only immediately resigned as a cabinet minister but was forced to quit as a member of parliament by his party and his constituent immediately even though he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

He was later found guilty and was sent to jailed and today he is no body.

Not true. Bill Clinton was impeached, but saved by the Senate. Richard Nixon also resigned after his VP, Spirow Agnew did. Go read your US history.

We are both saying the same thing

Bill Clinton sha didn't lose or leave his office in spite of the scandal... Whether he was inpeached
and later forgiven or saved is totally irrelevant angry

Nixon resigned only when the Watergate Scandal became totally indefensible

In this situation, all that is against Saraki is mere circumstantial evidence which could swing either in or against his favor, unless u wan tell me say na your office e come do the false declaration of assets sad

He wasn't forgiven, the impeachment was overturned by the superior house, the Senate. Supreme court overturns judgement not forgive the convicted.
Bill Clinton issue was more of a private issue about sex which should not have gotten where it got, if not for politics of the time.
Meanwhile. Saraki is facing a 13 count serious criminal charges, if found guilty in any of the 13 charges could be send to jail. Stop comparing Mango and cassava.

ofcourse. I'm not also comfortable with his emergence as the SP. but then if you should pass a vote of no confidence on him, it shouldn't be based on an inconclusive case in a tribunal. However, the party can apply sanctions based on other yardstick.

smiley To some extent you have an argument & I understand your standpoint. The fact is that saraki remains an accused & I do not believe any politician in such position should preside over the highly dignified senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

We Nigerians don't deserve crooks as leaders & it's equally beneficial to our democracy that the likes of saraki are brought to book. There's nothing awkward in trying saraki for even 30yr old sin...yes, there's nothing wrong in that.

There are many corrupt politicians & corrupt public officials in Nigeria but we must start from somewhere.

Thanks for your time. cool

A former Minister of State for Education, Chief Kenneth Gbagi, has called on the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to step down.

He said the trial of the Senate president by the Code of Conduct Tribunal has put a question mark on his integrity to lead the upper legislate chamber.

Gbagi said with what is going on, there was no way Nigerians and the international community would respect motions and bills that would emanate from the Senate under the leadership of Saraki.

The former minister spoke with some journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.

He said the trial of Saraki by the CCT was enough reason for the former governor of Kwara State to step down and allow another person mount the saddle of leadership of the Senate.

He said, “We have a problem in Nigeria where we don’t have people of honor, dignity and integrity as leaders.

“The mere fact that the Senate President is undergoing criminal trial is an indication that he has no business being a Senate president living with tax payers’ money.

“First, Nigerians will not have faith in anything that comes out of his Senate that is chaired or presented by that kind of person.

“Again, the entire international community will not believe in the passage of any Bill or motion under his leadership.

“So if you ask me, that is the end of him. He is gone. And like several other government where you think you get in and it will be business as usual, it is not true.”

He regretted that Saraki would not learn from advanced counties where someone like him, who is undergoing such trial, would have resigned from office.

He said this was one of the reasons why countries like the United State of America is still being respected.

Yes you are very correct. Why don't we start from the North where corruption took its root from or even from the president himself. Has he declared his wife's assets up till today? What about Tinubu, can we visit his asset declaration again? All of a sudden it's not too far to take the fight of corruption into far back as 2003 but if the name of GEJ is mentioned, it becomes too long to check and fight corruption into governments before him. I have no love for Saraki neither do I have love for most politicians in Nigeria but truth be told, if we want to fight corruption, we must use a level benchmark devoid of prejudice. 99.99% of our politicians are guilty of the same crime. We must not be selective. Even the president's assets got tripled the moment he had to declare publicly. If we must destroy or reduce corruption, we must be fair to all and @ the same time be just with all.
