Uno momento. . . . . . .

Silence of the Lambs wins! As if I didn't always know it would.

I'll give my review tomorrow though. Happy reviewing.

Movie adaptations of great books that turn out as great are very rare. Schindler's List, The Godfather and LOTR are among a very select few I know of. Silence of the Lambs is no doubt one of best adaptations I've ever come across. Anthony Hopkins' best performance ever and this is probably the greatest still respiring. Rookie Jodie Foster made more than just a name for herself (and her lovely accent which probably only she, Tom Hanks and Matthew McEtc get away with) with a 'Sterling' performance. If I remember correctly both of them won best actor Oscars that year, a tour de force that I remember with K versus K, As Good as it Gets and a few others.

Serial Murderers fascinate me for some reason. The really smart ones though. This Hannibal Lecter is one step crazier. He actually ingests his victims. In the book, he and Clarice (whose fascination turned to worship/brain washing) actually had a live meal/lobotomy straight out of a nosy cop's skull while he was still alive and even talking. The book ends there. The film is no less fascinating and I coulda done with either. And to think this film was made way back then, Hopkins brought Lecter to life: his intellect, his diction, his charisma, his acute sense of smell, his exquisite palate, his stride and surprising strength, his mesmerizing gaze and even his even small teeth.

Jodie Foster was not bad at all herself and to not get completely overshadowed by Hopkins'/Lecter's awesome presence is a mean feat on its own. She enabled him beautifully. If a less gifted actor had played her part, Hopkins may not have turned out so good. Enough said.

I rate the film 95%. Anyone who doesn't it can swim with the fishes.

THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991)

Cast: Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, Scott Glenn, Charles Napier
Director: Jonathan Demme

My review: The movie is based on a novel by Thomas Harris. When I first saw this movie on video cassette, it gave me the chills. shocked The way Hannibal Lecter escaped from the mental institution was awesome. It won 4 Academy Awards (Oscar) which are Best Picture, Best Actress (Jodie Foster), Best Actor (Anthony Hopkins) and Best Director (Jonathan Demme).

Along with "Se7en", "The Silence of the Lambs" is one of my favorite serial killer films.

I rate the film 92%. cool

Nice reviews Obinna and Vesc. There's not a whole lot to add after all said from you both - but make I try . . .

I saw SOTL well after it had come out and received all that praise and acclaim, so I went into it with very high expectations that were fully met. The young agent prospect eager to prove herself, wins the 'heart' of a truly intelligent cannibal-serial-killer. Hannibal, if he'd chosen a legal line of work, would've probably picked up a few nobel prizes for his genius. The story was intricate and was delivered in perfect style - as much style as a serial killer movie can have. Anthony Hopkins' will forever be identified with the Hannibal Lecter - I'm not so sure if this is a good thing. lol. I had already seen quite a bit of Jodie Foster movies, I think she's fabulous so I was expecting nothing less than her intense self.

Overall, intriguing - scary-gross - movie. You will enjoy yourself while watching and be simultaneously freaked out that human beings can be this evil. My 'favorite' - or should I say most scary - part of the movie: At the end of the movie, Hannibal calls Jodie from somewhere in the Carribean after he's escaped. He says he's not going to kill her as the world is a much more interesting place with her in it. Then he says something to the effect of "I gotta go now, I'm having an old friend for dinner" - and then the camera zooms out and pans upwards, showing walking ahead of Hannibal, the Warden/Chief from the prison/institution he was kept at.  shocked shocked

I rate 93.5%  smiley first time I've used decimals I think.

Re: The Movie Club by vescucci(m): 9:28am On Oct 17, 2010
Let's assume that's a review. Put your satisfaction with the movie in percentage and let whoever's on JeSoul's list choose the next movie
Re: The Movie Club by Nobody: 10:14am On Oct 17, 2010

v3 bro. How do you feel?
Glad to av you back.

Vesc do an average rating of your movie so we can move on.
Re: The Movie Club by vescucci(m): 3:05am On Oct 18, 2010
94.875 lol.

Let's round that up to 95% which queerly was my rating. Men, I can get used to this. Too bad it'll take a long time before the carousel does 360. sad

Your ball, JK Simmons.
Re: The Movie Club by justkunmi(m): 7:40am On Oct 18, 2010
Lol. Nice one vesc.
360 aint that far off.
But I smell trouble sha. I'll gist you on YIM. lol.

Yep. My turn.
Why we haven't reviewed this before baffles me. But not anymore. I choose "The usual suspects" for review.

I'm sure we've all seen it.

Let's av your reviews next.
Re: The Movie Club by justkunmi(m): 8:24am On Oct 18, 2010
THE USUAL SUSPECTS
Cast: Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Spacey, Stephen Baldwin, Kevin Pollak, Benicio DelToro, Chazz Palminteri, Pete Postlethwaite, Giancarlo Esposito, Suzy Amis, Dan Hedaya
Director: Bryan Singer

The "usual suspects" are five men: an ex-cop- turned-crook, a psycho entry man, a hardware specialist, a crippled con man and one other dude.

The story is told in two different time frames. In the present, looking back on events, Klint sits across a desk from Kujan, unfolding the tale as he remembers it. But the con man is an unreliable narrator, and viewers of The Usual Suspects are constantly kept guessing about what "truth" is. In fiction films, we're used to getting an impartial take on "reality"; this movie twists that principle. Not everything presented in the movie actually happens, and some things occur differently than shown.

Singer does an excellent job of blending humor into his noir thriller. There's enough to avoid a sense of ponderousness, but not so much that the movie becomes campy. Unlike many movies, this one continually builds to its conclusion. It starts out as the story of a small job, then evolves into a search for the dreaded Keyser Soze - a legendary criminal of such viciousness that even hardened men think twice before crossing him. The Usual Suspects moves towards its inevitable finale, Soze's shadowy presence becomes increasingly important, and we get the sense that those who think they hold the cards actually have the weakest hands. In the way it folds its various elements into a single resolution (which the astute viewer will be able to guess beforehand) smiley
Singer can be accused of toying with the audience. Like Nolan in Inception. smiley

This film requires attention to details. The Usual Suspects doesn't take any prisoners. A trip to the bathroom will leave you floundering when you return.

The cast is solid, but I specifically loved Kevin Spacey.

I rate this movie 95%. smiley

Re: The Movie Club by vescucci(m): 10:19am On Oct 18, 2010
Ah. What trouble JK. You'll have to holla on YIM cuz I can't see people who're online. This your review is very good. Almost discouraging. I'll go see the movie again first before reviewing. I hope it has truly been a while.
