Arsenal have completed the signing of Belgium defender Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax in a deal worth up to £10m.

You are right about Cesc having a a BIG ROLE to play in our squad and the reason why he failed this last season can not be over-emphasized.
The loss of his allies(Flamini & Hleb) in the mid-field was part of the reason(this also affected Ade too without a doubt) BUT dude, Ade was just piss-poor over-all.
Smiling when we are trailing behind,wandering off-side relentlessly et al.If Ade was like this 2 seasons ago,he would have been sold off.Wonder why no one his romanticing dude this summer like the previous one?
