Group sues Buhari, seeks to halt ministers’ inauguration

Nigerian youths under the aegis of Youth Concerns Realisation Initiative have filed a suit seeking to stop President Muhammadu Buhari from inaugurating the 36 recently-cleared ministers.

The members of the group are protesting against the non-inclusion of youths among the ministers-designate.

Media officer of the initiative, Ms. Blessing Luka, who spoke on behalf of the group at a press briefing in Abuja, on Monday, said it was now clear that the administration has no intention of giving Nigerian youths a chance.

She expressed regret that politicians across party lines had formed the habit of using youths during elections and dumping them afterwards.

She said, “We at YCRI have filed an action in suit No FHC/ABJ/773/2015. We expected to see youths among the President’s 36 nominees sent to the Senate but we were disappointed to see no youth in the list.

“For this reason, we have gone to court to ask for an injunction to restrain the President from inaugurating them until they give the youths a sense of belonging.

“This matter was filed on Friday October 30, 2015. What we are simply asking is that they (ministers-designate) should not be inaugurated or assigned portfolios.”

Luka stressed that it would be a total disservice to the nation for youths who formed the bulk of Nigeria’s population to be left out of the decision-making process.

According to her, Nigerians youths had restrained themselves from resorting to self-help, hence their decision to seek legal redress.

Was the term youth used in the constitution as regards appointment of ministers?

Nigerian jobless youths seeking relevance since 1999. You don't expect people to cakl you from nowhere to fill positions. You've got to work for it. Ambode worked for his position in the Lagos State government as an accountant. Dats recent, Ojukwu and Gowon where youths when they went to war. Don't sit down drinking orijin and think you'll become a minister. Get a life.

They have a realistic claim but not a legitimate claim, there is no law that says youths MUST be in the ministerial cabinet.

Is this in the Nigerian Constitution too? grin If yes then that constitution is crap shaaaa

Bunch of clown. This matter will thrown out at first sitting. There's a difference between Law and sentiments. No constitutional provision or any other law mandates the President to appoint a particular age grade to take up ministerial positions or whatsoever positions. Secondly, who used you? You only allowed yourselves to be used. Advise: pls use this ur small change to eat and better ur live rather than engaging the service of a lawyer.

when you say youth, what age do you mean? someone of 40?
Now if you have a conglomerate of companies, how many of you will hand over it to a less than 40 year old person to direct?
First, you'll need say, minimum of 30 years experience in leadership of a cognate role because you want to be sure such person is not new to the field.

now how many Nigerian under40 can meet that requirement? you get your first job at say 21, but do you rise to the post of perm sec or group director same day?
see.. we aren't asking the right questions coz we aren't thinking the right way. What we or anyone should be contesting now is the quality of service delivery from those who have been chosen. Nigerian youths should be suing govt because of roads they didn't fix, campaign promises not met, misrepresentation by elect reps etc, but instead you're seeking how to share "national cake", and it goes to show the type of people we have as Nigerian youths.
I weep for the future of this nation in your hands o

yes, he accepted the job. how many of you have accepted Boy leadership position. class captain, course rep, landlord association, sug, you all avoid responsibility. which party are you a member of. what lga ward are you from, Federal constituency, what's your reps name, your senator. you don't want to start small, you want to be made president overnight. Jonathan joined the party and rose through the system. same for all of them. you guys are only interested in going on vacation and buy-in end of discussion instead of participating in community development and political organisation. you're interested in collecting cups of rice and small small change instead of showing that you're bigger than that (our youth leader was interested in embezzling 120 K instead of implementing idea we pitched to our governor. how Will he ever be taken seriously)

no be by mouth or age
but by action
