Abortion is a controversial topic..looking at what the OP has highlighted, I believe the topic is on unsafe abortion. However, there is an entity tagged " safe abortion", which is carried out by a qualified professional and done when it is medically indicated having taken informed consent. Abortion is illegal in this part of the world which makes this topic quite interesting. From my experience...most patients that seek to get the procedure done by quacks still end up in the hospital with either acute ( immediate) or chronic ( long term) complications which the qualified personel will end up managing. Some may lose their life or womb in the process. The bottom line , legalise abortion and let it be done the proper way! This is my candid opinion.

you are right however i think Nigerians are very hypocritical with the whole take the baby to the Orphanage . How many of you here have ever adopted a child from the Orphanage or are planning to do so? If more people adopt that would encourage women who can't take care of the babies or rape victims to have the child and drop them at Orphanages because they will be sure that there is a better chance of them getting adopted and having a good family life.
while i agree with u on the fact that adoptions shuld b promoted, its my opinion that whether ppl adopt or not is the last thing on d mind of the one who finds herself with the option of aborting an unwanted pregnancy. She culd care less whether ppl are open to adoption or not. Abortions are mostly chosen out of shame and stigma. Even wen u beg ladies not to go ahead with their decision to abort and assure them dat their baby will be taken care of, they would rather still go ahead with the abortion if they have the funds and means to do so, than endure the 9months. Most who end up not goin through with it, either do so out of not having the means or funds, out of fear, or concience. My point is dat d percentage thinking about d possibility of giving up d baby for adoption is very minimal, so in as much as i also encourage that we promote adoption in Nigeria, it will still hv little or no effect on reducing d prevalence of abortions. Remember, even in developed countries where there are very good orphanages and adoption is very well practiced. Abortions are still the order of day. smiley *shrugging my shoulders*

Do you know how dumb you are with this statement?

The woman is 70% responsible for the abortion, why? How could she allow a man penetrate her without a condom? Or even if she want it raw, why can she talk about the withdrawal method with the man?

She owns the puṣsy, so she should know what goes into it to avoid things like this.

After all she wasn't raped.

This is a tough decision you have to make, but please be mature. Only an immature person
thinks of herself alone.

This article was written by neither a militant, pro-life male, nor a 50- year-old grandmother who has never been faced with a problem pregnancy. It was written by a woman who was eighteen and pregnant once. A woman who was scared, like you are, and chose abortion. After nine years I know what the right choice was, and is, and I just want you to know .

1. Abortion is not safe:

Contrary to the belief that abortion is as simple as removing a wart, it is actually a very serious procedure that can have very serious results. The clinic personnel will lead you to believe that complications rarely arise, but that is not the case. Many women have been damaged for life as a result of their legal abortion.

Your cervical muscle may be damaged in an abortion because the cervix is forcefully dilated. This means that your future pregnancies have a greater chance of resulting in miscarriage or premature delivery.

Damage to the uterine wall is another concern Perforation (puncturing) of the uterus, infection hemorrhage, and blood clots are only a few of the complications that you could end up with. I you do have a successful" abortion, scar tissue may still
form which can cause sterilization, miscarriages and tubal pregnancies.¹ approximately two out of 10
women who abort their first pregnancy will never be able to have children again. Do you want to take that kind of risk?

2. Abortion leaves emotional scars:

Most often a woman will feel the consequences of her decision within days of her abortion. If they don't appear immediately, they will appear as she gets older. Emotional scars include unexplained depression, a loss of the ability to get close to others, repressed emotions, a hardening of the spirit, thwarted maternal instincts (which may lead to child abuse or neglect later in life), intense feelings of guilt and thoughts of suicide.² Don't be fooled —every abortion leaves emotional scars.

3. Abortion kills a baby:

Before you even know you're pregnant, your baby's heart begins to beat. At six weeks brain waves are measurable and your baby moves and responds to touch. At eight weeks she is perfectly developed, with fingers and toes, even her own set of fingerprints. By ten weeks she can squint, swallow and suck her thumb. If you tickled her nose she would move her head away. By eleven to 12 weeks all body systems are present and working.³ All she needs to become a healthy newborn is time and nourishment. Nothing new develops after 12 weeks! What would you name her? Rebecca? Stephanie?

4. Abortion is violent:

The most common method of abortion used in early pregnancy is suction aspiration. The cervix is forced open. A vacuum device 29 times more powerful than a home vacuum cleaner is used to suction out the "contents of the uterus."

A D and E is performed after 16 weeks. As in the suction method, your baby is torn to pieces, but this time the abortionist uses a special instrument to tear the arms and legs from the body. He punctures her soft spot, suctions out the brain and crushed the skull, then removes the remaining body parts.

Another method done after 16 weeks is the saline abortion. A salt solution is injected into the baby's bag of waters. It poisons the baby and burns off her outer layer of skin. She actually convulses in pain for the hour or so that it takes for the solution to do its deadly job. The mother then goes into labor and gives birth to a dead baby.

A hysterotomy (last trimester) is done by making an incision in the mother's abdomen. The unwanted child is lifted out and left to die.

5. Abortion exploits women:

The counselors at an abortion clinic will use obscure terms such as "product of conception," "contents of the uterus," and "fetal tissue" to refer to your baby. They will rarely advise you to carry your baby to term because they are operating for profit and they don't want to lose your business. Essentially, they are making money off of your problem! The abortionist can make more money by doing abortions than a regular physician can through caring for a woman through a 9-month pregnancy. Are you going to be the poor girl who finances his next trip to Europe?

6. There are alternatives to abortion:

There are many organizations that can offer you practical support such as maternity and baby clothes, a place to live, pre-natal care, and financial aid. Counseling is also available to help you through this traumatic time. Please think carefully about your future. The decision you make in the next few weeks will affect you for the rest of your life. If you're unsure about having an abortion, take just one more day to think about it — don't let anyone pressure you into a decision you're not ready to make yet.

Fo.ol

Legally, foetus in the UK and the US is not seen separate of the woman. It has no rights whatsoever. However in the US, if you kill a pregnant human, you are killing one person except if there is a possibility of the foetus of living outside the carrier. For example, if there is forced conception and you killed the mother and the fetus. You will go to jail for killing the foetus unless it was carried out legally or if it is too late under the prescribed medical period for abortion like if you were 8 months pregnant and you abort or try to abort the preganancy, You will definitely go to jail if you go ahead with the abortiongrin

Grab a book, will ya?

Why would you force your own moral judgements down people's throats with such st.upid reasons. If it had been something better like based on religious factors, I would agree but come on, you know how stupid those reasons sound, don't you?

This is the 21st century, only a fo.ol will believe that BS

By the way, I don't support Abortion unless it is acceptable under the Islamic jurisprudence but i wont sit back while you brainwash poor women. And I do not support fetal rights undecided
It isn't allowed in Islam unless for medical reasons in wc the mother's life is endangered or the foetus has been noticed to av a condition not compatible wt life early in the pregnancy, but it must be done b4 4 months when it's blived the spirit is blown into the foetus, after then it wld be considered murder of a living being.
Apart from situations like rape, I don't know why someone wld av sex or worse still unprotected sex wtout being ready to bring a child into the World, that's y I don't pity those who find themselves wt unwanted pregnancies. Worse still when they want to av abortions most go to quacks who at d end of the day complicates matters. Many enterocutaneous fistula cases, and other complications out there, tht's if the woman survives it wt her womb and life. The money they are trying to avoid spending on taking care of the child wld be spent on the woman trying to save her life. Many cases of unsafe abortion complications.
If u knw u can't abstain then u av to be smart, and know ur smartness can't make u 100% safe

I have seen women who had children out of wedlocks become Alimahs, so I am not going to judge.

If we were in an islamic society, that would be possible but we are not. People will not abstain from sex. they will have sex. Some will be fortunate to get pregnant. Some will 'need' abortion and they will either try to have it or have it egardless of the laws in place. Would you rather they endanger their lives for a procedure that is relatively safe under normal circumstances? You cannot stop them from having sex but you can help save their lives and hopefully live a better life afterwards.

I just learnt a lesson: do not start anything unless you're really ready for it.

The Story: I have a neighbour who's just a casual staff of a certain company in Lagos. This guy dated (Now married ystday) a lady who's an auxiliary nurse. They mingled n she got pregnant which was terminated. Then, the second pops up again n that baby was killed again. Thereafter, a third child was aborted... Now, a forth came up buh she was like No more abortion which means there shld be a 'fast-tracked' marriage.

They just got married and all I cld was pray they have a happy ending coz I see it as an accidental marriage.

May God forgive us all n make us stop killing innocent child because that's an act of terrorism aswel specialised in killing unborn kids

The girls ain't to be totally blamed, did the girl just get pregnant? Is pregnancy now infectious or transferable? I blame more the guys who allow their manstick to do more of the brain work than use the brain itself. I blame the ladies too for allowing one directionless guy who has got no plans for baby yet take them on cheap bicycle ride. Abortion is a choice, though bad, but some, even if Pope preaches to them, they won't stop until it's achieved. Don't be surprised people shouting this is bad and others had once advised people to go for it, but they would be the first to cast the first innocent stone. Giving birth to the baby is far better as we don't know what the child could become, but this world is so filled with much struggles that the woman who probably once bragged my child won't suffer couldn't even afford to see one coming at this point where poverty is very strife. So, it really depends. They've all got their reasons, but still abstinence or protection is better.

Not judging, just stating the fact.
Of course pple wld av sex, even 15yr olds are getting pregnant every day. But we always av to say the best thing wc is abstinence for unmarried pple (this is overlooking religion sef), if the person can't abstain then the person shld ensure she is using a contraceptive method (I used 'she' cos women are the ones who suffer the most when the consequences come up) and we tell them they ain't 100% safe but far better than unprotected sex.
I'm not making any stand on whether they abort or not, everyone shld make their own life choices, but when they want to abort most go to quacks furthering endangering their lives. Personally, I don't support abortion. But if someone decides to then go to qualified medical personnels.

The abortion statistics in Nigeria is off the roof.
Most of the girls faking righteousness on this thread have aborted.

And if abortion is legally done by a real doctor. Its SAFE.

What I don't understand tho, is why abortions still go on. Like hello? Contraceptives and plan B meds are not expensive

By the way, those who support the use of contraceptives and plan B drugs but say Abortion is evil are hypocrites.
