Is this fear enough?
See the quotes:

Conference and business facilities
There are restaurants, bars, banks, bureau de change and a duty free shop in the international terminal, as well as a post office and medical facilities. NOTE: pickpockets and confidence trickster, some posing as local immigration and other government officials, are common at Murtala Muhammed Airport. Security is not always satisfactory, so be vigilant.

Car rental
Avis (tel: 01 497 4420) and Hertz (tel: 01 320 5016) both have desks in the terminal. It is possible to hire a car from most of the big international hotels too. Please note that fuel shortages often occur in Nigeria, so ensure you have enough petrol to complete your journey. Roads are in poor condition. Be vigilant when travelling on major roads, as robberies can, and do, happen. Avoid travel outside cities after dark. Be vigilant when driving in traffic jams (‘go slows’): keep valuable out of sights, and keep doors and windows locked.

There is crime everywhere no doubt, but
I would think that the reason why they put such quotes there is
because Nigeria and its govt attitude at curbing crime and another anomalies
is different from d rest.

Their comment is sadly true.

even Emirates? na wa.

Nigerian companies should also start posting travel advisories on their own websites.

but the Emirates warning isnt really too bad though, if that's all it is. It's not like they're lying and the language is very polite and official.
Re: Emirates Airline Paints Nigeria Bad On Their Website by Pittbaby(f): 3:09pm On Jun 11, 2009
Sadly on my companies Travel advisory, we are only rated as safer than countries at war , so leave Emirates o, they have a duty to inform their customers of the situation in the destination country

@OP
Why is the truth so hard to decipher?
Did they lie? Everything you posted there is true so why should they hide that fact?
Do you want them to say that Nigeria is paradise on earth? Get real. If Nigeria changes, the dirty detail will change too. shikena.

the issue of fake officers is real. its happened to me in kano. and the worst thing about it is, the government knows about all this and does nothing arrest them. which means they are collaborating with them. why don't they post about other places. thats the image we've shown them. present a better image and things will change. if you were to travel somewhere, your government is duly obliged to let you know how things are done where ur going.

They are not painting Nigerian bad in this regard, Nigeria did that to itself.

Well, Nigerians are there own greatest enemy. South Africa will never make noise about the crime in their country so
the whole world will not make noise about it, but in Nigeria we are the first to announce any criminal act in our country to
the whole world and they in turn "help" to paint us worst than we want to be painted.
Re: Emirates Airline Paints Nigeria Bad On Their Website by lojik(m): 3:01pm On Jun 15, 2009
This is a sad truth.
The good thing is dat Lagos has a governor thats working hard to change dis image but how far will he go? How much difference will one state make in a country's image?
Re: Emirates Airline Paints Nigeria Bad On Their Website by joobreel(m): 3:04pm On Jun 15, 2009
Emirates isnt lying, its just a bit exaggerated. its not that terrible in naija or is it
Re: Emirates Airline Paints Nigeria Bad On Their Website by Meldrick(m): 3:06pm On Jun 15, 2009
No matter what is posted on their website, those greedy foreigners who have buisness in this country will still come. They can't take their eyes off the oil.
Re: Emirates Airline Paints Nigeria Bad On Their Website by naijacutee(f): 3:08pm On Jun 15, 2009
Is there any statement there that is untrue? They are only trying to serve their customers well by providing accurate information. If the information provided is "painting Nigeria bad", then it is up to Nigerians to fix the problems. Unfortunately, this is one case where Nigerians cannot bribe their way out of the truth.

Emirates has been merciful to Naija. We are that bad and probably even worse. They haven't warned foreigners to stay off public transport (especially in Lagos) because some robbers pose as passengers, and start robbing people of phones once the vehicle is in motion. They have also not mentioned that when withdrawing a huge sum of cash from the bank, some banks will insert fake notes into bundles of money, or even give you bundles with incomplete amounts.

"Security is not always satisfactory, so be vigilant" is a nice way of saying that you can be robbed and shot in your car, on the road in some Nigerian cities. So abeg leave Emirates alone, they were kind in their messages. If they brought out the full gist, we will only hang our heads in shame.

@Poster,

Sentiments aside, are they not saying the truth? If our so called useless government cannot put things right, then that should not deter foreign companies from alerting their customers of the situation here. Even you, poster, will tell you visiting relative the same thing. So, how much more foreigners.

Please go get busy with other things and stop passing buck all in the name of someone telling you thenaked truth. Small time you guys will say you want to rebrand.
Re: Emirates Airline Paints Nigeria Bad On Their Website by shawn123: 3:22pm On Jun 15, 2009
without being biased, throwing sentiments away! They have posted the truth! Think about this? If you as a Nigerian lived in the U.S and your son, daughter or wife decides to visist Lagos (Naija) for the first time wouldnt you give such advices or even worse. The truth is the truth lets just face it and deal with it!
Re: Emirates Airline Paints Nigeria Bad On Their Website by diehard1: 3:31pm On Jun 15, 2009
Naija is exactly like they made it look. There is crime in every other country, the only difference is that it can happen here and nothing will happen. One white lady asked me the number to call in case of emergency. Am sure u can tell yourselves the truth about that if any exist and what will happen if police or whoever is called during robbery operation. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
Re: Emirates Airline Paints Nigeria Bad On Their Website by Nobody: 3:44pm On Jun 15, 2009
Sentiment aside, the tone in the warning is very polite and is not untrue. I would probably say the same when speaking about Nigeria. Nevertheless it is clear that what they intend to do is create awareness about potential problems that could arise and not that these issues were the norm.
