Hijab is completely different from purdah. What muslim women wears that scare children or people is purdah. You can see the face of a woman wearing hijab very well but not purdah- only the eyes. They are two different things. Our leaders need proper enlightenment. A woman in purdah is different from a woman in hijab. Purdah is full body veil revealing the eyes or sometimes covered with net cotton while hijab is to cover the head up to your shoulder revealing your full face.
they all can conceal a weapon of mass destruction, so what's the difference, and what's your point exactly?

This is not news just some useless miscreants causing trouble. The FG cannot ban hijabs, the president is a faithful Muslim and knows the importance of the hijab for Muslim women. However the president can order the change in the length or size of hijabs. This will ensure Muslim women are able to exercise their rights while protecting the safety of the nation. A short hijab fulfills the same role as a long hijab when a Muslim woman is dressed properly so no need to stress!
makes sense. Short hijabs can't conceal bombs, so reduce the length from feet to chest and we are good.

Are you aware that all the spagehrri type dressing have been banned from all federal universities in Nigeria, talk less of private universities. That means that you cannot just wear such trash in campus and even if you are bold enough to wear it outside, you will be looked at as an irresponsible lady. As for my joblessness, God bless you.
so Nigerian universities campuses are d only societies in Nigeria? What are u even saying?

Happy New Year,

Firstly let me address the banning of Hijab and purported reasons

We are facing significant security challenges and we live in a CCTV era. CCTV allows us to identify perpetrators of crime and their accomplices not only from direct footage of actual crimes but historical footage can tell us who their associates are. The corollary is privacy in general. Many nations ban or seek to ban any means of communication that government cannot control (The equivalent of an electronic veil would be the argument of the constitutional right to PRIVACY Countered of course by security and public safety) Government wants to be able to read emails and listen to phone calls etc

Banning the hijab will NOT stop the crime necessarily but it will help in solving it afterwards especially as increasing areas of public space are covered. We will know where they came from which cars they alighted from and who they talked to etc.

People need to think deeply before making specious arguments and then feeling smug that they have make a Socratic revelation.
There is no parallel with banning a car . Why does government ban guns or control access. Why not let everyone have one and say only bad people commit crimes with them and bad people will find a way to get them whether banned or not. Government has tactical powers to ban cars anyway and it is a matter of judgment what to ban and when whether it be okada, hijab, wearing of camouflage etc.

However the ban should be on ANYTHING that conceals the face of an individual in a public space. If a crime is committed by any person ,the public should be able to identify them afterwards. It may well be that someone recognizes them in public before they commit their deeds

To those talking about the Quran. Please cite the Sura from the Quran where this is written . There is NO SUCH THING. Does the WORD Hijab appear in the Quran AT ALL? No NOT ONCE

Rather there is an interpretation of words which people can and have interpreted differently across different places. Many Muslims have never read the Quran directly or just repeat what they are told.

Anyway the veil which was removed by the soldiers is NOT Hijab

The Hijab is an Arabic costume and not a Muslim one

Iran Tunisia and Turkey are Muslim countries that banned the Hijab in public (Turkey lifted ban recently) and the skies did not fall .

There is no mention of Hijab anywhere in the Quran
dere is bro u don't have to show your ignorance

We ought to understand the security threat that such dressing as cause in the nation . If you are to encounter what our soildier face . You we know their intension towards their action .
Moderate dressing is most become . Covering of face what those it implies ?
Security watch should be our focus .

See their hawkish eyes. These ones are either bokoharam, gun trotting fulani herdsmen, internally displaced saksakies and escaping shiites or recalcitrant biafrans. You can't be too careful for these criminals moving around in different guises. Kudos to Nigerian security for being this vigilant.
