Matthew Seiyefa has been confirmed as the acting DG of DSS. He takes over from the former DG, Lawal Daura who was sacked by the acting President Yemi Osinbajo today following a siege of the national assembly by his men.

Matthew Seiyefa, who hails from Bayelsa State, had earlier served as the Director of the Institute of Security Studies (ISS), before he was moved to the DSS headquarters.

Apparently the office is now in better hands cause there were signs of jubilation at the headquarters as soon as the sack was announced. Seiyefa is more of a people's person in the command compared to daura. Let's hope the jubilations are extended to us soonest.

Daura was retired before 2015. He was brought back by baba in 2015 and since then turn the service into something else. And you are right, majority of staff like the new man and he's also very good at the job compared to Daura. Let's just hope as you say.

And also to chip in, heiracy is not necessarily followed. Any personnel at the level of a director can be appointed as a DG
by the presidency and all the staffs ahead of the person appointed in heiracy are forcefully retired.

Yeah before thanks for that correction jare... Everyone is on egde now, cos they dunno what's next. But I heard the only time recruitment was cancelled was in 82,83 after pmb coup. That this one is just a shift of personnel every time table will be visited and worked on or with accordingly. The agency is in capable hands

The sack of Lawal Daura, former Director General, Department of State Services (DSS) by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday elicited wild jubilation across DSS formations nationwide.

From Port Harcourt, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Lagos and Kano, the story is the same.
Many operatives who spoke on condition of anonymity after the DG’s sack say the tenure of the former DG had been most harrowing for staff and operatives.

Those who spoke to journalists on phone claimed that allowances were not paid while many have stagnated in one position since Daura took over the reins of leadership of the Service.

In Abuja where the former DG had operated as a demi god, the jubilation was suffusing. A senior officer confirmed this on strict anonymity.

He said the exit of the former DG was a big relief for staff and the agency.

damn you are fast...salute to you.. i can testify to that,just heard something like that..once they are done with the re profiling and all,they will certainly call sooner than expected it,ll also increase the chances of some of us that follow the process...that is,applied,did exam and interview...they may even increase to 10 person per state..fingers crossed.

Nothing to get excited about and nothing to feel sad about. Whatever anyone says here are mere speculations and fictitious as d case may be, if we all have faacts at hand we would have all been in camp by now considering the formal so called facts and info that have been thrending here. Reports reaching us is that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have raided the residence of Ita Ekpeyong, a former director-general of the State Security Service (SSS) and also arrested him.

According to some sources, the acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, ordered the raid following a meeting with the acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu; and the new DSS boss, Matthew Seyifa, on Wednesday.

It is gathered that operatives of the anti-graft agency stormed Mr Ekpeyong’s home just before noon today and the ex-DG of SSS was arrested at his 46, Maman Nasir Street, Asokoro, Abuja residence this afternoon by operatives of the anti-graft agency.

The operatives then searched the mansion for over two hours before leaving at 3.20pm. It was observed that no cash was recovered.

It would be recalled that an attempt was previously made to search it in November 2017, but the recently sacked DG boss, Mr Lawal Daura prevented it, despite a court order, sparking a stand-off that nearly turned fatal between SSS and EFCC operatives.

The EFCC at the time had accused Mr Ekpeyong of being culpable in the arms purchase scandal that rocked the exit of President Goodluck Jonathan. Scores of individuals and firms have been identified as allegedly sharing in the mismanaged funds, which were earmarked for the war against Boko Haram.

It was not immediately clear whether today’s raid at Mr Ekpeyong’s home, which government gave to him after his exit as DG of SSS, was a continuation of the botched search from last year.

Mr Ekpeyong led the SSS between 2010 and 2015 when President Muhammadu Buhari replaced him with Lawal Daura, himself now removed from office.

He is Matthew Benabafa Seiyefa, who until his appointment was the director in charge of the Institute of Security Studies (ISS), an institution established in 2005 as the cardinal training institution for the SSS.

Mr. Seiyefa is the most senior official at the SSS after Lawal Daura who was sacked on Tuesday on the orders of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

The acting DG, an indigene of Bayelsa State, was director of operations between 2007 and 2010 when Afakriya Gadzama ran the agency.

With about 34 years experience, Mr. Seiyefa served in different other capacities, including being state director in Osun, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos States.

He is also a member of the National Institute, having studied at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

Insiders at the SSS said he is close to retirement, and was indeed billed to proceed on terminal leave later this month.

Mr Daura, who was appointed to the post by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, was axed over the invasion of the National Assembly Tuesday morning by masked officials of the SSS, an incident the presidency said was not authorised.

Sources said the handing over to Mr Seiyefa was being conducted at the Yellow House headquarters of the agency by the agency’s director of administration and logistics as Mr Daura was not available at the ceremony.

The sacked DG’s official convoy returned without him from the Presidential Villa to the Yellow House hours after Mr Daura was fired.

It is not immediately clear whether and where he is being held. Insiders at the SSS said he was placed under house arrest at the presidential villa. But that could not be immediately verified.

Multiple sources at the agency on Tuesday expressed relief over the sudden end to the Katsina State-born Mr Daura’s three years leadership of the SSS which they said was marked by high-handedness and autocracy.

He was said to have denied five senior officials their official quarters in Abuja, instead allocating the facilities to his relations who are not officials of the agency.

Mr Daura was also said to have cancelled the regular meeting of the DG with state directors, the traditional channel for briefing his office on security issues around the country and the forum for top level evaluation of operations.

He also closed the regular channel of communication with the public as he refused to appoint a spokesperson for the agency throughout his tenure.

Mr. Osinbajo had earlier met with Mr. Seiyefa at the presidential villa shortly after sacking Mr. Daura, and directing him to hand over to the most senior official in the service.

Mr Seiyefa arrived the presidential villa in an official SUV at about 4 p.m., clutching a file.

He was received at the entrance of the Villa by the aide de camp to the acting president. He later left for the SSS headquarters after the meeting to take charge of the security agency.
