its obvious that the problems of this nation lies in the fact that our politicians dont care much about the country. they rather put their selfish interests first. i believe that this nation will compete stiffly with europe and america if only our politicians care. now the question for us all is, what can we do to make our politicians care about this country and place it first above all other things?

Public execution to anybody find guilty of corruption and some"R" factor in our blood. We need somebody like J. Rawlins. I think am kind of leaning towards that school of thought of late.

The difference between Nigeria and the West is that we Nigerians begin from the position that people are descent and then we go on to lament people being bad. In the West, they begin from the utilitarian position that individuals are self-seeking and then go on to praise those that are descent.  When you take the Nigerian position, you’ll do nothing but rely on hope that people will do good and end up constantly let down. On the other hand, if you take the western position you will not rely on hope of people doing well, instead you will do something to stop them doing badly. In other words, Nigerians most get away from the position of seeing Nigerians as exceptionally corrupt, because people have done bad, otherwise they will feel hopeless, give up and not get anything done. The position to take is the one that  starts with the regorgnition most humans are self-seeking. When Nigerians do this, they will begin to recognise that it is checks and balances and not decency that prevents American and British leaders exploiting their people .

Nigeria’s problem with leadership and rule of law stems from inability to formulate seamless checks and balances. Religion won’t stop a bunch of Christians in a bank vault stealing money but strategically placed spy cameras which they know is hidden somewhere in the vault will.

Someone will soon state that there are no checks and balances in Ghana but that they are doing fantastically. My answer to this would be that then Ghana is still primitive. Max recognised that in primitive societies, individuals are sharing and giving but as societies develop, Societies are marked by exploitative relationships. Actually I have always thought that a major part of Nigeria’s problem is that it has developed to a level were it now needs to make a leap  into industrialisation stage of development but in refusing or in being incapable of making the leap, it is tittering on the edge.

You can force a Horse to the river but you cannot force it to drink . Nigerians cannot force Politicians to care about Nigeria considering that most of those Politicians did not seek office to serve anyone but their own pockets. Even Jesus will struggle to make our hardened and self-serving politicians more compassionate about the plight of Nigerians. What we should be looking at are ways to ensure that Nigerians are allowed to elect the best men and women available to them rather than the current state of affairs within which an unexposed Mallam like Yar Adua can be forced on Nigeria when far more capable men and women abound.
