But....the main cause of VVF is obstructed labor...which (to cut a long story short) due to narrow birth canal which is more common in under 18 year olds due to poor nutrition, and the fact that they are still growing.

But if a (with a lot of caution here...because I beleive that a girl has no business getting married till she is 21)...under 18 girl has an adequate pelvis...she can deliver. But....such girls are rare. A CS too can help prevent VVF.

I didn't say the number of cases reported is untrue but I was expressing caution at the claim. Your opinion is very well established. I din't feel like people know about VVF in the Southern region. VVF has increased in the south while we sank our heads in the sand rejoicing about the misfortune of many young northern women, it has increased in rural communities like as confirmed in Osun some time ago, deep in the South South and as can be seen in the SE from this report.

This isnt the case. Obstetric fistula is mainly caused by prolonged obstructed labour, if a woman labours for too long without getting emergency care, the head of the baby causes some damages to the bladdar or rectum, leading to leakage of urine or feces. However, the link between early marriage is that a child who marries early and get pregnant is not likely to have developed pelvics. If for e.g a 14 year old is well grown, she is likely to develop than a 16 or 18 that is malnurished. So the prevention is women should attend ANC and deliver at the hospital where they can get help in case of obstruction. Honestly, these women needs help, they are usually stigmatised and abandoned. There are many centers offering free treatment to them, in Ebonyi there is a National center in Abakaliki. Also others in Ogoja, UCH Ibadan, SOBi in Kwara, Uyo, Jos, Murtala Muhammed hospital in Kano, Ningi in Bauchi, Jahun in Jigawa, Gusau, Sokoto, Birnin Kebbi and Zaria. These centers mainly offers free surgeries for women and are supported by the USAID fistula care plus project and other partners.

Ebonyi built first VVF center in Nigeria which was commissioned by patience Jonathan. That's why you have so many cases in the hospital (EBSU teaching hospital) because they are being referred there from all parts of the country.
