Sweetlemon: Then he don't know what to say at such moments. I don't blame him for the FX problems, I understand he is doing his best to fix Nigeria. But you must understand it takes more than just policy or decisions to fix this country. For Gods sake he needs diplomacy in handling some public issues especially in the face of opposition. That is where I like GEJ, he was not doing too well, but he has a way of addressing real issues to make you feel you're safe. Anybody who is affected by this policy of FX and hears what buhari's response is will not like him again I tell you. There would have been a better way of saying what he meant. For instance; Q; how do you pay your children school fees abroad? And; I source doller like every other common Nigerian in the while, as I'm looking forward for the rest of my children to school at home. In this manner he has given us confidence, and set a precedence for others to follow. I swear his response was shallow and provoking even though he meant good. 2 Likes |

Just perception really if only Nigerian lecturers can do away with ASUU and focus on what they need to do. Then government needs to work on the school's infrastructure. It's in so deplorable state that private secondary schools now rate higher than the nest Federal University in terms of infrastructure. Ramanto: |

Bluffly: You're not serious. Studying abroad is not solely about making Nigeria a 'research hub'. Improvements in technology pushes the nation forward. Not every damn thing is about 'making our own'. What 'our own' is a foreign trained medical doctor or specialist to make? Or a software developer? Or a HR specialist? When people come back and start up successful companies that employ many Nigerians, how the heck is that not adding value back to the country? Is Smile or Hotels.ng not an employer of Nigerian labor? Nobody cares if people came back to 'ensure their survival'. It's the end product that matters. And if those guys add value back to the country, that's what matters. Bluffly: Hundreds of Nigerians come back to lecture. How the heck did you miss that? If you've gone through the University, are you really that oblivious to the fact that a lot of your lecturers were trained overseas, at least for their PhDs? Bluffly: Nope. The Hotels.ng guy did the development himself. In fact, he pretty much chronicled his work on twitter while he was working away at it. Bluffly: There are numerous Nigerians who have come back and have put in their two cents to move Nigeria forward technologically. There are areas that need a massive, sustained investment from the Government and from enlightened graduates to make a difference in. Nigerians are already working within private and international companies to deliver world class performances. But if you think China and India just harnessed a handful of returnees with zero support and poor power to work on hi-tech products, you're on a long thing. Ironically, Buhari is trying to discourage this manpower investment by his indifference. Bluffly: 'Tough decisions' yet he fritters away our Forex on pilgrimage, gives it to business moguls who pay relatively meager tax and spends it on frivolous foreign trips that are of limited or no use whatsoever? 1 Like |

banki: It just tells you that copy copy doesnt pay, parents borrowed money to send their kids to schools they couldnt afford, just to show off and keep up with the joneses, now see the result. Just becos your child schooled abroad doesnt mean he/she will be rich. A brighter future is goes beyond where you schooled. |
Re: Nigerian Students Abroad Are On Their Own - Buhari by bezimo(m): 4:44pm On Mar 07, 2016 |
This is a very wrong move informed by confusion and deliberate ignorance. The demand for dollar and creation of scarcity is caused by the Cbn who sell dollars to hoarders such as Banks who then sell to black market to make outrageous profit rather than their customers. This move would only make demand for dollars higher as parents would now source for dollars from parallel market which would increase the parrallel rate. If the Cbn and Buhari led government stop helping parents to pay fees of their wards in Foreign universities and the rate of dollar dont improve consequent of the reduction of "alleged pressure on the naira by parents who are sourcing for dollars for their wards abroad as claimed by Buhari" Then we know he was lying and very clueless on how to manage Africas biggest economy. |

In Nigeria like in most other countries, there is almost no other way of getting foreign currency except through banks and BDC's and in Nigeria you can't even get a BDC to make an international transfer except through your bank....so how will the school fees of people now be paid? modath: |

I am a lecturer in Nigeria currently studying Abroad. For this semester i am taking a course in Applied Animal molecular biology so that i can be exposed to DNA extraction, use of pcr machine and stuff like that. From the tetfund scholarship given to me i ordered for a pcr machines, downloaded journals from subscribe data base of my university abroad and sent to my Nigerian so called e-library. I made copies of textbooks not available in Nigeria. I made copies of important textbooks for my use and my students. In terms of technology we are lost. Please PMB we are in same page in wanting the best for Nigeria.

Cont..... I took courses in Genetics, statictis not because they are requirements but for the sake of knowledge that would be transferred to Nigerian students. I tried to master current technologies that can be transferred. See i have a fairly used car abroad that run on gas (NPV). Buhari should send people to Malaysia to study this car that uses none combustible gas (NPV). Nigerian students in Asia are working hard to transfer technology to Nigeria. We should be encouraged.

buhari is a lost cause, right nw nigeria's situation is jst lyk making an inexperienced dude to bcom d captain of a ship. can u imagine dis guy sayin one of d causes of the fall in naira is as a result of parents using dollars to pay they children's fees abroad? dats d height of being daft. the idiota didnt attribute the fall of the naira to the fact that nigeria has nothing to export which will make foreigners demand for its currency. we beta impeach dis guy b4 d country's economy becomes a sorry situation. |
