Hmmm. That's effed up. Then again all fingers are equal and even the two ti.ts on every woman are never equal. But as asserted in the post that 70% of the lawyers in naij are women, they can always take solace in that cos that is inequality against men lool. Cc missy89 1 Like |

marlockj: You guys are really funny. Well I will not generalise like you do. Some of you guys are really really funny. How can you see women being productive and being movers and shakers when an enabling environment has not being created. Do you know there was a time it was seen as very foolish to send a daughter to school? Imagine asking 20 years down the line why there are no female professors? How can there be? Most young girls are encouraged to go for less challenging roles so as to fit a certain stereotype in society and family life. When I was younger girls would normally be blessed with words like "you will marry governor, you will marry president". Why not "You will grow up to be the governor or president". The mindset of our society has created this. When next you ask why you can't see women doing this or that or to prove that they can actually do this or that, your answer lies in why America is just having its first black president. The mentality of the society needs to change. 5 Likes |

We chose these people! We voted them. APC is an islamic party, take or leave! And anything islamic is opressive and anti progressive..... Unequivocally stated! The only way Nigeria will ever be free from these issues is to be a truly secular society. Both christianity nd islam are doing more harm than good. Untill then we would keep wallowing in similar unlawfulness and senseless social reality..... Shame on APC, and everything it gives (i voted Apc btw) ! Shame on religion and its ever gullible followers! The Nigerian constitution is simply a sharia book in disguise. |

mccoy47: I also stand with the Senate on this one, for the following reasons: 1.) I am adherent of GENDER EQUALITY, that is, a MAN is EQUAL to a WOMAN, therefore none of the two should be given a special preference. That is the EXACT meaning of equality, just like one man is equal to another man and are treated equally, without any form of discrimination. Women should consider themselves equal to a Man (if that is what they actually want..... or just some advantage over men.) 2.) Like a Senator observed, Women make 70% of Lawyer and Judges in Nigeria! This means women are already over-represented (if we are looking at it from the point of "numerical equality". This means they are already in positions of determining where "cases and judgements" go. So, should men be complaining and asking for a Law to remove the "excess female Lawyers and Judges", for a position they are eminently qualified? 3.) Girl Education: This is a local problem within some families but as l understand, for every Igbo Man that goes to school, there are four Igbo women that go to school. The figure are near 50-50 in the South West where parents just send their children to school if they can or cannot afford it, irrespective of the gender so, who needs a law for "gender education" here? Looks like it is the male Child but hardly wil you hear women high-lighting this! 4.) Women want a certain percentage of all Jobs, CEO positions and even Political/electable offices RESERVED FOR THEM! This is an insult to women themselves, except the lazy, greedy and opportunist failures amongst them who think the only qualification to a top job is is to "have a Bobby on your chest and a hole between your legs"! The implication of such request is that "Women are less intelligent. less achievers, less qualified and dont have the rigour to achieve as Men"....therefore, we need to DO THEM THIS FAVOUR BY RESERVING POSTS AND OFFICES FOR THEM! This totally negates the idea of EQUALITY that the same women are clamouring for. It implies men a better human, than Women! They can achieve all their success by dint of hardwork, intelligence, competitiveness and cranial superiority! But that cant be true because my own wife, by measure of intelligence, hardwork, intelligence and even superior knowlege, is a Director in a large conglomerate that has a staff strength of over ten thousand Nationwide and she has no less that 90% of all these staff, which includes men, under has control, in that firm. Such women are totally against these sort of nonsense called "affirmative action/reservation". The believe every woman should be able to prove herself, just like men prove themselves and only on that level can they claim GENDER EQUALITY What we need si to strengthen our LAWS against any form of discrimination, based on GENDER. You cannot discriminate against a person, for anything.... based on their intimacy..... be they MALE of FEMALE. The trap we must no tfall into is to make separate laws for women and separate laws for men, that in itself will be discriminatory and nagates the principle of equality. Now, to issues like "child bride", bride-stealing, divorce, inheritance, e.t.c, these issues are best tackled "INDIVIDUALLY" in the constitution because they are CRIMINAL IN NATURE and should not be taken advantage-of by feminist, to advance their illicit course! For example, if the Nigerian constitution says the" marriageable age" of any child ...(Male of Female, bearing in mind that "sexual perverts" are also taking advantage of these women activists to further their own agenda; an example of these occured in a country like Ireland sometime last year) ... is "X-years", anyone who goes below it commits a criminal act. No "ifs", No "Buts", Finito! Divorce is a peculiar case and l make bold to say, just as in some Western countries, Nigerian woman are seeking to emasculate men in Nigeria and "women and men of good conscience" should never allow this to happen. In the WESTERN WORLD, l need not point it out that their Man have been so emasculated that they live in fear of their Women/Wife! Their frustration can only be expressed in devilish acts like homicide (killing the wife and children) and suicides. "Gold-digging women" have their eyes seriously on this one! In Nigeria, we believe in trying our best possible, to keep the marriage together, in GENUINE PEACE..... as opposed to FEAR. It is worthy of note that despite all these "strange divorce laws" instituted by women in this class (Feminist), it has never solved the marital problems in the West rather, it has made it very combative, turned it into a money-spinning circus for Lawyer and further broken down the family. It can be said to b working at cross-purposes. Nigeria will not fall into the same trap because we are supposed to learn from the mistakes of others. The discussion is very wide but l limit myself to these few points for now. I welcome contributions against my post, from others who have diverging opinions, as long as it remains intelligent and civil. Lastpage! 10 Likes 1 Share |

Am surprised Remi Tinubu et al couldn't do shege for this bill to go through. Women are the cause of their own problems when the likes of Oduah and ekwunife can't even protest or use the womanly charms to convince the colleagues to push the bill but how can they when they will never like to see another woman reach their level Good riddance to bad rubbish 2 Likes |

mccoy47: People appeal to SENTIMENTS........ when their argument lacks substance! Say No to Violence against ANYONE, MALE OR FEMALE! Or dont men suffer violence as well? Or haven't you heard of women who castrate their husbands, poison them to death, stab them to death, e.t.c? Why is there no campaign to stop violence against Men as well? Or better still why not just "Say No to Violence"? Period! I know women are smarter in such "stealth things" ...and would fool some "she-men" into kow-towing since those once feel inadequate unless praised by women! These subtle method of creeping around to change the laws in favour of women, ..to the detriment of their men-folk, by appealing to "sex.ual sentiments" MUST STOP because it wont work in Nigeria. I am against discrimination against any of the gender, not just Man or Woman. Lastpage! 4 Likes 1 Share |

bughead: I am very on point. You're the one who keeps evading. Let mW make it clear to you so you will no longer be confused. The issue is not definition of the terms formication. slavery or equality. The issue is the divine authority you're hiding behind to back them. You said in a previous post and I'll paraphrase "The bible does not condone equality... woman was created from man's ribs". I am now asking you that, if you accept the Bible's injunctions on this status, then do you also accept that the bible condones slavery and will you and your girlfriend consent to be stoned to death for fonication? I need someone to tel me what is wrong with this bill But why would we need an Equality bill @lastpage, I do not think the bill is necessary however don't you think we need a bill to criminalise discrimination when it interferes with employment rights etc. The issue of gender aside, what about disabled persons, what protection do they have under the law when their rights are interfered with? Also, I believe the bill is necessary to protect all genders. This is not just about women, men do get cheated with jobs/scholarships because they are men. We have more female lawyers because law is the one of the few prestigious courses for Art students. |

I care less about religion but islam is without a shadow of doubt non progressive, no matter how they embelish it.
