Fashion › Re: How Colonialism Affected African Dressings A Case Study Of Yoruba Fila Caps by 2mch(m): 7:23pm On Aug 14, 2025
The fila was never restricted to royalty. Everyone wore fila and gele. It’s a common fashion the only difference might be the grade of cloth you can afford to buy. It’s only crowns that were restricted to royalty. Fila and gele is everyday Yoruba fashion as can be seen on the two terracotta heads I posted. This is for posterity so some people don’t come from being naked in the trees to lie on our history. We are a great people and far advanced than Oyinbo to the point, they claimed we have to be Atlantis and not African.

Ancient Yoruba wood carving of Calvary, showing warriors wearing the fila with long tail.

OGEDENGBE dressed with his ancient Yoruba soldiers which shows different versions of the fila. They were fighting in 1877.

Because we find ourselves in the same country now does not mean you class Yoruba as a primitive tribe that Oyinbo had to teach to dress. Rather Oyinbo took our fashion and modified it. We have been clothed befor Oyinbo came to our shores. When next you want to make up stories, restrict it to your tribe.

AndroBlaze:
Why should I explain something that is obviously recent?? If you can provide a picture of Yoruba woman in pre European times wearing gele (with the material currently used) then I will start explaining.

Somethings are so obvious I wonder why we'd want to argue about them. Or in any of our carvings did did you see women wearing gele??
It’s fairly recent because you assume it is? So Oyinbo also brought us gele and cloth? Because your ancestors were walking around naked and living in trees does not mean others were. If you want the evidence. It’s there. Head covering and clothes preceded colonialists.

It is clear that the OPs write up is sound. Its simply logical, it makes no sense that in humid temperate environments our ancestors would have been busy bothering themselves wearing caps, especially with the texture of our hair. I mean it's a maybe for royalty, but for the vast majority of people, its a logical no.

Also if you look at the historical pictures of the Binis, who resisted European influence more than any other tribe in the South, they hardly wore caps...even the Oba.
Ok. Explain gele which Yoruba women wear. You can’t compare one tribe to the other. Head covering is worn also as sun protection. Ability to afford and be able to sew or weave cloth which the Yoruba were famous for, is a sign of wealth. Don’t compare bini to Yoruba. We have been trading for centuries and the beads or iron work we traded have been found in other continents.
Fashion › Re: How Colonialism Affected African Dressings A Case Study Of Yoruba Fila Caps by 2mch(m): 3:54am On Aug 14, 2025
You just struggle to find any cap. Fila, is not British influenced and the direction it is worn, connotes status in the society. Yoruba don’t wear meaningless things like winter caps made of wool and call it traditional attire. The second one is Abeti Aja. Meaning like dog ears, can be worn down to protect the ears from the sun and raised up if not necessary. It has a functional use. Like gele is organically Yoruba, so is the fila. They are head coverings worn by adults in everyday life and shows status or age of maturity. It’s not for special functions only, but an integral part of our dressing.

Stop calling all Nigerians. Make sure you bath, brush your teeth well and use deodorant before getting on a plane. If you dress well, people will treat you well. No go there de gba, and be involving all Nigerians. Plane is a very tight space for all.

They have to spray to prevent malaria parasite pests from following them into their country. It is also use as a disinfectant and was started during Covid. It’s not air freshener.

It’s the right thing to do, scrap dealers should be banned. If they exist they should be highly regulated and monitored. They are the ones responsible for damage to infrastructure because they reward these people for vandalism and theft .

The day you all understand the sentence that politics is a game of interest,I am from Anambra State,Chris Ngige tried during his short time as governor but there is too much exaggeration in his story, the only good roads that he did is only in his home town, all those road done in onitsha are all rubbish,if you understand his own plight he is trying to gain relevance and they only way in Niger to get prominence in politics now just connect Peter obi to it,most people saying negative about Peter obi have never stayed in Anambra state for even a week during his time they are just making conclusions to what opposition are saying Peter obi is the only governor on the lips of Anambra state people that they are proud of,
Just watch if Peter obi joins Tinubu you won't hear any bad thing on Peter obi he becomes a saint,Reno omokri has said lots of bad stuff on Tinubu ,now he speaks good about Tinubu
Let save ourselves the stress ,pray we get a president that can solve just 20% of our needs
Politics is always going to be a game of interest
So he should not defend his legacy, he should allow you people to claim his legacy for the ambition of another man? Since you guys like to package and defend, why not go and verify if what he’s saying is lies? I watched the interview and he made sense. Obi used the policies Ngige laid down to use to promote himself. He did not do anything new except use propaganda to steal those legacies as his own.

Ngige was a long time civil servant with a very good track record with patients all over the country. Obi was into import and export, what miracle can he do in Civil Service, what does he know about government or governance? Ngige even rightly pointed this out in the interview. He also said his tenure was probed and he left a lot of money for Obi.

This is who you people want to foist as President. Thank God Nigerians saw through the lamba. If an Igbo becomes President, na we go choose am not Igbos because e clear una no de use clear eye make decisions. Anyone can use propaganda to deceive you.

I am glad somebody gets where I am coming from experience they say is the best teacher..

No be every oyinbo person wain you see dey upright up there. Their madness no be here 80% of them na colo dem be but you will never know.
Many of them are on anti depressants or anti phycotic medication to keep their mental issues on check it helps suppress it and you see them behaving like normal people untill you get to live with them for just a few hours or days and then you will know.
They look all cool and okay on the outside but inside their brain its a whole ball game.
For us nigerians you go see them dey waka for street with torn cloths and dirty outfits but whitey you can hardly know unless you spend little time with them.
Alot of times I see videos of lots of nigerians welcoming them oyinbo at the airport happy and all that, which I am happy for them but before you go deep into any relationship with them, try and know their mental status ask them about it and the medications they take just to be safe and by law, they won't tell you but if you ask them, they are required by law to tell you.
Oh and also this one too stay away from single mothers who have kids. You see all those oyinbo ladies wain don born my great advice is RUN THE OTHER WAY. you will never be their priority you will always be the third option for sure..
I hope my nigerian men and women reading this hopefully learn from this.
But if you decide to put head best of luck.
Also. No be every oyinbo fit give you residency or citizenship just because you marry them. You need to go do your resarch and know if they qualify to help you be a PR or a citizen of that country..

I rest my case.
Hahahaha. E good as una don de see am too. I never see these level of different types of madness for my life till I enter abroad and na many different ones, wey genetically de pass on to one’s children. The way they can turn on you! Na like on and off switch. Before you know, I no longer love you or want to be married to you. Fiam, dem don run or don kpai their spouse if the spouse try to work on the marriage. The instability is very high and I noticed it across the board. Na person wey like gamble de rush marry without studying them very well.

When Igbos are ready to produce the president of Nigeria they will present someone like Soludo or Umahi. Obi is Ipob in disguise.
Don’t mind them. They like trouble so they always come with candidate that will be causing trouble up and down, all the voters will now refuse to vote their candidate. Then the cries of tribalism, marginalization and victimization will start. They don’t realize everyone has moved on from Nzogbu Nzogbu and people just want peace and progress.

Oh well he made it look like public funds. That's what it is. If not why didn't he flaunt his house when he was not a minister? How much billions of naira did he use to renovate his mansion?

It's too early for me to be angry about the brazen corruption in Nigeria
Bayo owns hotels and his own businesses and is a sucessful accountant before becoming minister. So, he can afford it. He’s running for Governor and probably does not see how flaunting that wealth looks. It looks like he’s starting his rally for the position. When one is wealthy sometimes, flashy things don’t phase them anymore but it must be a lot to the poor followers and people viewing these videos.

It's his time to steal national wealth. Everything na turn by turn. He should enjoy his ministerial position while it lasts.

What more can I say?
That house is not new. He’s reckless to be flaunting it in public. Making it look like public funds. He’s trying to run for Governor that’s why he’s moving with crowd.

I bet no one could advise him to amputate the leg. He probably had diabetes from small and it got progressively worse. He probably survived that long because of diet lacking in too much sweets and carbs, mostly meat was eaten. A simple early amputation may have saved his life. But who go wan suggest that one make head no roll. Thank God for Yoruba culture when de send crazy king signal to kpai themselves. lol.

The problem is America make all these wild and dangerous animals seem like doll baby. It’s all over their kids channels, the animals singing, dancing and talking. So from small they underestimate these animals and think they are harmless. Not knowing in the wild, these animals de chop anything wey move, even themselves. You don’t want to be caught in their sight. They are not cute or tameable. They are better hunters than humans. To successfully kpai one of these animals takes experience and like 5 hunters.
