Usain Bolt is definitely from Nigeria. Probably from Osun state. I suspect that his real name is Hussaini Omoboluwaje. |

Tolexander:-What is Senegalese genre? He sings hip hop and R&B which is sung all over the world. He contest the MTV African base award with Tuface and was defeated. An African musician does not need to produce in Africa before he is seen as such. Ambrose Campbell left Nigeria for the UK and US in the 1940's and lived there till his death around 2009. He was referred to as an African musician. |

OrlandoOwoh:though R&B and Hip pop may be worldwide, there are brands to them, afro hip hop, afro R&B, American Hip Hop and R&B. Akon and Tu Baba never contested for the award, but nominated for the award. The two musicians were not personally involved in the contest but nominated by their fans for the contest. Oladipupo Campbell started his musical career and sang afro genre before leaving for UK. Mikel Obi played for Plateau United and moved to Europe, England since 2006. Has he become an English footballer? John Fashanu was born to a Nigerian father, played his footballing career in England. Has he become a Nigerian footballer even after returning to Nigeria? |

Tolexander:If Akon was not an African he wouldn't have been nominated along side Tuface the MTV African (not American) base award. It's just like the BET award that African-Americans and Africans are nominated for. When John Fashanu returned to Nigeria, did he play for us? |

OrlandoOwoh:Akon being nominated for MTV African base award hasn't made him African musician. Tell me what genre of African music he sings. And how his music has African undertone. Exactly with Akon and Sade Adu, John Fashanu associating and acknowledging the parental origin hasn't made Fashanu a Nigerian football player. |

Tolexander:Did George Weah winning the European footballer of the year make him a European? If you talk African genre, not even Olamide and Phyno could be said, sing African genre(s). Our young artistes sing in the genres of hip hop, R&B and blues like their European and American counterparts. The genres that are indigenous to us are ikwokrikwo, were, adama, highlife, fuji, awurebe, apala, etc. That are person lives in Europe or the United State doesn't make him one of them. Emily VanCamp, Eliza Taylor and Henry Czerny Canadians. Sullivan Stapleton is Australian. Josh Bowman and Barry Sloane are British. These people are Hollywood actors. They are identified first by their countries of origin before anything else. We have actors of Nigerian origin in Hollywood who are either born in the US or Europe or left Nigeria as kids, it doesn't rub them of their being a Nigerian. As long as a black man in Europe or the US identifies with Africa (not like the likes of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, R. Kelly, etc) as being the place his parents come from, he is African. Akon was born in the US but was shuttling between the US and Senegal at a tender age. Wycleff Jean was born in the US but called a Haitian because his parents were from there. |
