apt but it wasn’t always like this, they used to have McCarthy, Nomvete, Zuma, radebe used to be one of the best defenders in the epl mark fish too made his mark in Europe even fortune was a reliable squad member for manutd. I wonder why they suddenly stopped producing decent talents

Maybe their interest in football died down... Or maybe they just don't have that much talent, and the aforementioned players were the best of the lot...

Not really. It's just that all of the athletic talent in their nation is concentrated in rugby union, cricket and netball. They have the infrastructure but simply show no interest in utilizing their resources in discovering and developing talents in other sports.
They are also very good at aquatic sports and athletics... Football just seem not to be their thing...

They probably need to restrategize how they scout and coach young emerging talent. I think they need to also encourage their more talented players to move to Europe early enough where the competition is keener and fiercer.

Wasted talent. He was ten times better than Ahmed Musa but could not even do well in south Africa.
One tournament wonder. He was a play making winger like Ribery but then he did not achieve anything at all.
It's sad

South African players just don't have the talent it takes to cut it in Europe... A lot of them have gone to play in Europe before, but couldn't cut it... Tau couldn't cut it at Club Brugge or Brighton... Keagan Dolly who was one of the best player from that Sundowns squad that had Tau and Billiat couldn't cut it in France..Lebo Mothiba too couldn't cut it in France... they are many...

If South Africa had the kind of football talent West Africa countries have, they'd be dominating the continent and competing with he big boys at the world stage, cus they definitely have the infrastructure needed to develop the sport.... That's why they dominate the continent in most sports...

Exactly you've said it all

Sometimes i wish Nigeria have the infrastructures they've got... Nigeria would have been one of the countries competing with Germany and Brazil

Mind you like you've said they're forces to reckon with in cricket, rugby and some other sports
No wonder they dominate medals table in all africa games and Olympics

Manchester United have identified
Napoli’s Victor Osimhen as a firm
target in their hunt for a new long-
term striker signing, a report claims.
The Red Devils have a plethora of
attacking talent in their ranks, but few
pose as out-and-out centre-forwards.
Mason Greenwood has enjoyed that
role in recent times, but he has
tended to start out wide.
Meanwhile, recent striker signings
Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo
are 34 and 36, respectively. As such,
they may provide an immediate threat,
but they are coming to the ends of
their careers.
United have targeted Erling Haaland,
21, for some time. The Norwegian,
who has scored 11 goals in eight
Borussia Dortmund games this term,
looks the obvious striker target.
However, Nigeria international
Osimhen has made his own fantastic
start to the season.
The 22-year-old has netted six times
in six games – including against
Leicester – and, according to
Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport
Witness), he has entered Man Utd‘s
radar.
Still, the Italian newspaper adds that
Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid
and Paris Saint-Germain have all
begun to follow his progress.
Furthermore, Napoli president Aurelio
de Laurentiis would want at least
€120million (£103million).
Osimhen only moved to Serie A in
September 2020 and his contract only
runs out in 2025. Although, De
Laurentiis and sporting director
Cristiano Giuntoli are considering
extending those terms by another year
before the end of the season.
In any case, Napoli bosses are aware
that they could make a ‘substantial
capital gain’ on Osimhen.
The Italian club signed him for a fee
which could rise to a reported
€81.3million (£70million).
Overall, Osimhen has scored 16 times
in 36 games for Napoli.
Speaking last September, Osimhen’s
brother Andrew revealed how the
player rejected a move to Old
Trafford earlier on in 2020.
He did so because of his fellow
Nigeria international Odion Ighalo,
another recent striker signing at
United.

qualities sets Osimhen ahead of other Nigerian strikers
firstnews
The super eagles of Nigeria is blessed with several top strikers, many of which produce goals for their clubs; the likes of Paul Onuachu, Terem Moffi, Victor Osimhen and Sadiq Umar are capable of the leading the attack of the super eagles.

However, only Victor Osimhen enjoys the confidence of Genort Rohr, as he seem to field in the Napoli forward at every opportunity. The Franco-German is not wrong because Osimhen posses qualities others lack. I shall discuss 3 of such qualities.

1. Defence

Osimhen is a striker that tracks back to help his defence. His tremendous energy gives Napoli and Nigeria solidity to execute their plans. Often times we see him defending corners and free kicks.

2. Hunger

The former Lille of France forward has a huge appetite for the ball. He presses his opponents without the ball, putting them under pressure and he makes himself available for a pass when his team is in possession of the ball.

3. Motivator:

The young striker encourages his team mates when they perform well or commit errors. Especially, when they misplace a pass or miss an attempt on goal. It is a common sight to see Osimhen clap his hands in such occasions.

Thanks for your time.

You may be right on this.. If they channel the same energy they put in their male national team into the female national team, it may only be a matter of time before they catch up with us.. We still have the advantage of producing the most talented players, but talent itself alone is never enough....

Therealsupernerd, since you have access to osimehn, please inform him to study, shadow, and emulate Cristiano Ronaldo as much as possible. Let Ronaldo be his role model and epitome of what Osimehn aspire to be, meaning dedication to Fitness, Professionalism, diet. We don’t want a situation like obagoal, aghawonder etc that peaked for few years at Eagles and dipped out of form. Osimehn, please let Ororo be your role model
Except for bedroom matters o, I no want any accusations of yansh tearing abeg. If na African player or black get the kain accusations wey Ororo get, I no know where e go be now o.

What, Ejike uzoenyi was such a gem that year. A lot of Nigerians mounted pressure on Steven keshi to add him to the world cup list of 2014 and he Succumbed. He really deserved it. Where did it all gone wrong?

I thought we've got our Messi then. What really happened to him?

Its the Nigerian league phenomena. These players arent well groomed due to greed and impatience on the part of the club owners. They pick the players up and without much preparations the players are introduced into the amateurish and mediocre Nigerian league where their talent stagnate. At the end , what you have is a players with potentials that never developed fully. They continue playing in the league until the usual invite to national team where they often show those flashes of brilliance but at this time they are probably in their 30s and in another two to three years the party is over.

This happened to Ahmed Musa (yes Musa plays rubbish 70% of the time), Uzoenyi , Kolanut boy , Jude Aneke , Sunday Mba etc. Iwuala might still go that route. Nigerian league is shhit.

You aren't wrong but he was much older than Musa before he hit national limelight. Therefore , the likes of Musa , Etebor , Azubike Okechukwu etc had more time to learn new tricks. Age is a big factor in football.

Amuneke to Rohr: Play Osimhen, Onuachu together in Eagles
newtelegraphng.com

i A former African Footballer of the Year and former Eagles player, Emmanuel Amuneke, has urged senior national team Coach, Gernot Rohr, to find a way to be using the two Nigerian strikers- Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu – together.

Amuneke expressed joy over the current form of the two attackers in their teams in Europe. Osimhen has scored six goals in the league this term while Onuachu has registered nine league goals in seven matches and 11 in all competitions.

The victorious Golden Eaglets coach said: “Both can be used but it all depends o n the entire system the team is using both the opponent and home team in question.

They are good players but of course it all depends on the plan of the game the coach is coming up with and also the system of the opponent and what they are bringing in terms of their defensive and offensive aspects of the game but I think both of them they have the same characteristics of style of playing as a pure striker.

“Also, it depends on the philosophy of the team generally. Sometimes you also have to look at the opponents’ style, they are playing from individual point of view to collective point of view.

What are their game plans like when they have and don’t have the ball.” Amuneke however warned that Nigerians should not be carried away by the current impressive run of the country’s stars abroad.

He added: “We should bear it in mind that African football is totally different from European football, so there is a whole lot of factors when it comes to African football that you are going to encounter.

“But I think he is a very good player and he is doing marvelously well and it’s a good one that all our players are doing absolutely great and that will boost our confidence and chances of qualifying for the World Cup.”
