AFCON 2019: Rohr names best three Nigerian goalkeepers

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has named the trio of Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Daniel Akpeyi and Francis Uzoho, as the best goalkeepers Nigeria has at the moment.

Rohr was asked why he keeps picking them, even though they have all struggled at club level at various points, during the just concluded season.

The German defended the keepers, by saying his scouts have run the rule on several options and certified the trio as the best bet for the team now.

Although Fortuna Dusseldorf youth team goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, caught their eyes, he was not included because he is presently injured.

“We have the three best goalkeepers for Nigeria now with us.

“My scouts have watched the others goalkeepers and these three are still the best we have for now.

“We found one in Germany who plays for Fortuna Dusseldorf but he is injured so we couldn’t call him up,” Rohr told reporters in Asaba.

He however refused to reveal which of the three, will start for Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

TheGoodJoe:

Jamie Vardy has been revived following Brendan Rodgers’s arrival at Leicester City, but the manager is convinced there is still much more to come from the former England forward.

Vardy, 32, had endured a frustrating campaign prior to the appointment of Rodgers at the end of February. He had scored just nine goals, and his relationship with former manager Claude Puel appeared to be strained in the weeks building up to the Frenchman’s departure.

The mood has since changed, however, and Vardy’s goal here – a near-post effort after a clever run had taken him in front of Fabian Balbuena – was his seventh in seven games and confirmed his instincts are as sharp as ever.

In Rodgers’s eyes, it also highlighted the benefits of the tactical changes he has made to bring the best out of the player.

“When you have seen Leicester’s title run, some of the passes from deeper were with quality and played him in, and he got a goal from that position, and obviously over the last few years, teams have worked that out a little bit,” said Rodgers. “How we have tried to work in training is to bring the ball closer to him in order to serve him better. He has still got great legs, you see his speed. He is such a threat, he can occupy the whole back four on his own, but he has been a joy to work with.”

From telegraph.

You are spreading a very wrong notion of something that was clear to see and Vardy rejuvenated under Rodgers.

Finito.

What do you mean?

Do we have better goalkeepers in the league? If so, who are they ?
I don't follow the league that much but I'm sure there are lots of young keepers who'll do better than Akpeyi, even if Oremade is our third choice I no go too vex, besides who's the goalkeeper for the U-23? @ tbaba1234

grin

First of all my kind of boss will not take someone who didn't merit being there in the first place.
Secondly, I don't just jump and trust in the abilities of a new recruit. I will have to observe him develop with time before I will start having some level of confidence in him.
Thirdly, once I have confidence in his abilities even if he is having a rough patch presently, I will still have some level of confidence in him knowing what he can do if he gets it right.
Fourthly I will sit him down and talk things out with him, setting new targets for him to meet.
Lastly, if he still doesn't measure up, I will send him out and recruit a new personnel for the job.

grin grin cheesy cool
I see, and you can be patient with this employee for as long as a period lasting 2 years?

I think, suspension for a period of time would suffice before sending him out.
