but you believe burundi will win us?

I strongly doubt it would be that easy.

No. They can't win Nigeria. However, people are expecting a walkover. I doubt it would be that easy.

By the way, let's talk about Iwobi for a bit. Sentiments aside, that guy doesn't fill me with confidence at all.

His shooting is pathetic, ditto his long passing abilities, his goal sense below par, aerial ability is zero, ball control average at best....the only thing he has going for him is his one-two passes and once in a blue moon accurate defence splitting pass.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm a big Iwobi fan and I wish him the very best but if I were in Rohr's shoes right now, I'd play Etebo as 10 ahead of Iwobi.

Your thoughts?
His ball control is not average - it's above average. He is also a good dribbler/ball carrier.
He needs to work on his finishing and consistency. His decision making isn't that bad - just not consistent enough.
Etebo is not a better 10.

I believe they can get a draw if we're not careful.

Etebor is not a better 10 but he is a workhorse. I mean, Iwobi couldn't play against Europeans and now you think he can play the ever physical African team.

Additionally, Etebor was our best dribbler in the world...So, yes , he can dribble and run with the ball.

For a team that was just protesting wages, Zimbabwe fared pretty well. Didn’t let emotions affect gameplay. Just gotta work on finishing

.....or maybe Egypt just isn’t that good.

Egypt is not good

I don tell them for this thread but they disagree thinking this is Egypt of 2006

I tipped them as favorite for the tournament just because they are the host ,nothing more than that

BTW how about we start onuachu against Burundi, He will be the best option if they are to pack bus. Na to get ball down the wing and cross. His tall height is also a big advantage.

The strength of a team is it's capacity to achieve the two primary tactical objectives in a game i.e to score goals against the opponent and to prevent the opponent from scoring.

OK. If strength is about quality of players, at least 2 countries are stronger than Nigeria.

By the way, it is obvious that Zimbabwe used that game against Nigeria to test the tactics they used yesterday.

"Hold stronger opponents for long to prevent conceding goals, then attack in the last 20 minutes; if we can't score, let's aim for draw"

They lost but it wasn't a bad outcome for them.

Someone should inform Rohr not to use 3-4-5 formation. I hate nonsense, we can't use it against Argentina, and stoop so low to use it against common Burundi..No!
I feel this formation limits our attacking strength hence my dislike for it.

Let's do our normal 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 even if it would amount to us losing the game!
Let me just enjoy the game..shikena!!

My brother I woke up with a clear head and modified my earlier summation. The strongest countries going into the AFCON are Egypt and Senegal with Nigeria and some other countries just a little behind.

Coming to your own summation, strength is not just about quality of players, it has been demonstrated severally that a team with just a sprinkle of quality can beat a much more quality side.. How these players move together as a team is more important.

An European country is playing an African opposition and you put an European in charge of VAR.

This is first tournament I'll be critiquing Rohr's tactics. The Nigerian team has an array of attacking talents at its disposal now than it has had in a long time. If Rohr can't bring them to score GOALS then something is definitely wrong.

We need to lead an online protest against this decision by FIFA.
How can a Spanish be in charge of VAR when the Germans are playing against an opposition from another continent?

Exactly my point.

Like iSlayer has been pointing out, tactical input is more of the coach's job, so the more a player can implement the coach's tactical directions with the ball at his feet, that is the more he is able to command the ball to go to where he wants., at the pace he wants and when he wants(according to the coach's tactical directions) makes the player a technical player for me.

Just because you can dribble or you have a nice shot does not mean you are technical. Technical players are the ones that have perfected the passing game, works well in tight spaces and can control the flow of a game.

Cc theGoodJoe
Ronaldinho wasn't all about dribbling though, he did the rest of the things you talked about but not like Xavi, Xavi on the other hand was not as instinctive in his dribbling skills or control of the ball like Ronaldinho was, not even close, so both can be termed very technical players, but I'll give it to Ronaldinho for the fact that he could do what Xavi was doing( slightly less better than Xavi) but was also much much better at dribbling and mesmerizing moves than Xavi was.

To me, I don't see anything special about Egypt even with Salah and their weather. Once Salah is marked out, the team looks so ordinary. The Zim LB did a good job on Salah yesterday, that Salah got the better of him only thrice throughout the duration of the match. All what the team does, is to get the ball to Salah, then stand idly waiting for Salah to perform magic

I dont consider Egypt favourites, they dont have what it takes.

At the end of voting, it was decided by our threadmates that Ronaldinho is a more technical player than Xavi, havinf edged him out 13-9
