This is not a new disease. It has been documented long ago. It is rare and extreme complication of drug reaction. It can be fatal if not treated early. So pls let not Nigerians panic. 4 Likes |

Isn't this a side effect of a drug used to treat excess uric acid in the body? SJS isn't transferable but just a reaction to the drug. Once the reaction s noticed, use of the drug should cease. 1 Like |

My doctor friends tell me it is just something related to drug reactions. Not that it can pass from one person to another like the big one. Just spreading panic to an already panicked population. 1 Like |

how is steven johnson syndrome new..it is a drug reaction that has been occurring since God knows when .....2 months ago in my paediatric posting as a medical student.....saw 2 children that developed it as a result of hypersensitivity rxn to carbamizipine.......one died and one survived......even they developed one worse than SJS which is Toxic epidermal necrolysis(TEN) in which >30% of the body surface was affected. management involves stopping the drug; preventing infection, as the skin barrier to infection has been broken and management of complications that may arise especially fluid and electrolyte imbalance.....improvement is rapid in uncomplicated cases. other common drugs that may cause it include.....septrin, some HIV drugs and fansidar etc 4 Likes |

Further proof that Nigeria is doomed, if our own minister of health does not know enough about Stevens-Johnson Syndrome to prevent him from putting out this really ignorant statement. Wow. 2 Likes |
