There is this "rival" iftar that has kept me from attending many Nairaland Iftars in the past and true to form I confirmed last night it is holding on the same day as Nairaland's event this year again.

I have decided that I am attending the Nairaland Iftar this year but might have to leave early, say between 6-6.30pm. I just do not know how to not attend the other one. The organiser (a relative) is very close to me on a person-to-person basis and I do not have the capacity (yet) to say: "sorry, I could not come at all..." I think it does more harm than good and the other party is one I would loathe to offend.

Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place.

It was actually a lovely lecture!! I was impressed with the rate the lecturer made everyone feel so much into his teachngs and the level of the modern way's he preach! May Allah grant him more knowledge and rahma! I was impressed I spent my afternoon with lovely set of people and a great lecturer! And when I got home I saw an hefty chicken lap's. On the rice gven to me for iftaar! Unfortunately someone snatched it from me lol, to the dude who contributed for the preparation of the iftaar may Allah grant him all his heart desire's and surely next ramadan may his mercie be upon everyone of us to contribute also and conveerge in teslim balogun for next year iftaar lectures! All-in-all, the programme was brilliant. I must thank Wizeboy for taking the lead and his commitment towards organising this programme. Then we must thank Thirty and Kazeem for sponsoring the Iftar and Nairalanders for the fantastic turnout. We thank the lecturer whose enthusiasm for the event was infectious and we thank our hosts, Araromi Central Mosque Muslim Community.

There are so many lessons to be learnt from this year's Lagos Iftar some of which I will emphasize:

1. We should not shy away from taking the lead and responsibility; nobody was born with 2 heads and stamped as a "leader". If you identify a gap and you feel you can fill it, by-all-means reach-out to those that you need to make progress and start with small steps. Insha Allah, you will achieve great things thereby.

2. We can achieve more by collaborating: we had someone to organize, we had people putting their money down, we had someone to anchor, we had people suggesting things during the programme (I must thank the brother that suggested contributing for the mosque, the banker and others0. We do not need only strong individuals, we need a strong community. Let us engage more with each other to make positive things happen.

3. We Muslims are organised people, let us build lasting legacies and institutions by being proactive and pooling our different skills and talent. I cannot scream this enough: "money is not everything". Yes you need finance to run and achieve anything but money does not spend itself, people do. When people have a clear and unified objective, positive things can happen fast and money becomes easier to get because you have built a platform that will attract it and people can identify the value you are creating.

Enough of the sermon already- brothers, see how all of you became as "gentle as a dove" and "meek as a lamb" when we asked you to introduce yourselves...

Sisters that attended, I greet and thank you. Sorry, we could not hear from you much but I think it would be great if we have your opinions on last night's Iftar if you attended and ways of improvement.

P.S: A brother that attended last year has volunteered to host Iftar next year.

May Allah spare our lives beyond then and reward our efforts with paradise.
