undecided say no to jungle justice! But without any loco matis, i feel wat makes people embark on jungle justice is becos they feel dat if dey handover d suspect to the police, the police will treat d matta with kidgloves! hence, d decide to take laws into their hands. anyways, I still dont support jungle justice!

Btppolitics:
What is jungle justice?

Well, it’s just a punishment carried out by individuals on a suspected criminal without any legal authority. Such criminal will experience a lot of pain before life is finally gone out of him/her.

He/She can be hit with different materials such as wood, broken bottles, steels, stones etc anything possible just make to sure the person is vulnerable or temporarily paralyzed and then the final stage comes – burning the criminal naked and alive.

Jungle Justice started in Nigeria close to a decade ago and still no solution has been procured to it.

The Law

According to the Nigerian Constitution,

Section (33) 1 states : “Every person has the right to life, and no one shall be deprived intentionally of his life, save the execution of the sentence of a court in respect of a criminal offence of which he has been found guilty in Nigeria.”

For many years, our law enforcement agencies have failed in being competent. In South-South, Nigeria, it is said that arrested criminals that engage in devious acts such as armed robbery or even murder slip through the hands of the police by paying ‘affordable bails’ instead of charging them to court for their deeds but these criminals will be released will still roam the streets and continue their devilish acts. This is why Nigerians have no belief in the police and it has greatly increased the rate of jungle justice in Nigeria.
Throwback to some jungle justice events:

1. ALUU 4 BOYS (2012)

I’m sure we still all remember these four young men who were battered and burnt alive. The gory video footage spread on YouTube like wildfire, even a policeman was caught hitting them with the butt of the gun,he was later apprehended alongside others who engaged in the act. This incident went viral in the nation and the parents of the deceased are still find to justice.

2. LYNCHING OF KID IN KADUNA(2012)

This happened just weeks after the ALUU boys incident and this time it was just a 12-year-old who was accused of kidnapping a pupil. He was beaten and burnt alive in Kaduna

3. FEMALE THIEF BEATEN TO PULP (2014)

A certain female was stripped naked and beaten because she stole a phone. The pretty woman was caught with a stolen phone and she was sexually manhandled and beaten to pulp by an angry mob.

4. FEMALE KIDNAPPER (2014)

A middle aged woman was stripped naked and also beaten a large crowd for allegedly kidnapping a young child that was home alone in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. After about 2 hours when life had almost gone out of the woman, the police got involved and took her away.

5. LYNCHING OF MAN IN FESTAC (2016)
Two suspected thieves were caught for trying a steal a parked motorcycle about 2 weeks ago in Festac unfortunately one of them got away and the other was beaten to pulp by angry residents.

6. WARRI INCIDENTS (2016)

Two out of seven robbers were caught in caught in Warri, they were beaten blue black and burnt alive in broad daylight. Their operation was to steal tricycles which we all know as ‘Keke Napep’ but they were unsuccessful and they got caught.

Also, a popular notorious thief called ‘Emma-B’ who had been terrorizing a particular community in Warri was caught by a vigilante and was brutally beaten and finally set ablaze.

There are thousands of other jungle justice cases that we all don’t know.

What’s your take on JUNGLE JUSTICE

As for me jungle justice is barbaric and should not be tolerated. I have heard innocent people killed in the name of jungle justice. People take to jungle justice because our police are too corrupt....instead of ensuring the culprit is lawfully dealt with they would prefer to let him or her go on bail. Evil is evil period!

RANDYFOODS:
Till today that Aluu 4 is still fresh on my memory
if u visit aluu now, the place is just like a cemetery. Very quiet, little or no social life. I walked into a compound and made enquiries as to any room for rent available, the first question the landlord asked was am i a student? I told him no.. He replied if i was a student then he would have ordered me out.. shocked..

The only people due for jungle justice are our politicians just like the French during their revolution.

There is no justification for jungle justice. The red eyed, frothing at the mouth, cackling with glee mob that participate in this despicable act often use the opportunity to let out their pent-up frustrations. It is a primitive behaviour that needs to be expunged.

Jungle justice is not a DO or DONT.

It is a Criminal Offence and anyone who goes on to kill someone (an armed robber or thief) who does not pose an immediate threat to his life in the moment the act is done, is to be tried for murder.

Capital to the NO!
Professors John Farrah and Anthony Dugdale have both condemned the idea of "instant justice", "self-help", revenge and went further to describe it as a symptom of an underdeveloped system. It would ultimately lead to anarchy.
Every accused or suspect reserved the right to fair hearing in Nigeria as entrenched in the section 36(6) of the Constitution of the FRN, 1999. Presumption of innocence until proved guilty also has the backing of the constitution in the section 36(5).

From the foregoing, it becomes crystal clear "jungle justice" has no place in our laws and as a matter of fact is a policy that negates the principles of natural justice, equity and good conscience.

THANK YOU OP FOR THIS TOPIC. BUT I THINK U SHUD DO MORE RESEARCH, LET PEOPLE KNOW THE DANGERS OF SUCH ACTS THEY CALL JUNGLE JUSTICE, PERHAPS FORWARD IT TO SOME LAWMAKERS SO A LAW AGAINST THIS WILL BE IMPLEMENTED.

I GRADUATED FROM UNIPORT AND WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE ALUU4 INCIDENT IT TOUCHED ME. IT CUD HAVE BEEN A FRIEND OF MINE THAT WAS KILLED BASED ON A FALSE ALLEGATION. WE SHOULD NOT WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE WE KNOW IS WRONGFULLY KILLED WITHOUT PROPER INVESTIGATION.

Re: Jungle Justice In Nigeria – Do Or Don’t by brojoshua: 2:41pm On Jun 01, 2016
If there is no true, just, righteousness and prompt justice and judgment in a society then there will be other types of judgments, by the people themselves.
Because Nigeria is very, very corrupt that is almost all of us are corrupt and a corrupt society or people kills true, just and righteous justice and judgment and therefore there are all other types of judgments and justice in Nigeria except only the true one. Like most of the judges are corrupt, the judiciary is rotten and the populace herself don't want true, just and righteous justice and judgment and so almost all things are upside down, except for the little changes we are seeing from the new government which most Nigerians who are corrupt are also seriously resisting. So we encourage the government to continue to do her works and even more and better.
And so let there be true, just and righteous justice and judgment and let there be no more jungle justice and judgment. You know if the real thing is not available the people will organise other alternatives for themselves, for example if many are poor and have no income or money to buy chicken and eat then they wouldn't mind the ones government confiscated and buried in the ground. If some days later people see again on the street the criminals they handed over to police a month earlier, then the next one they catch they may not hand over to police but organise something themselves which of cause is wrong. Let each one, the government first, the judges next, the police and the people also, do only the right and good thing. But indeed the few who have good hearts and eyes in Nigeria have started to see some changes, let these be kept and also intensified or improved upon. Thank you

Re: Jungle Justice In Nigeria – Do Or Don’t by brojoshua: 2:50pm On Jun 01, 2016
Let there be true, just and righteous and right justice and judgment (first) and (then) let there be no more jungle justice and judgment. You know if there is order you will not have disorderliness, but if you don't have orderliness you will have disorderliness. You can't have or miss the two at the same time, it is only one you will have at a time. Thank you
