Pavarottii: OK, if you're telling me your own story then where did i lie? If you don't know him personally but you did know someone that does. You said 100 Niger Delta boys got training in France that's 5 persons counting on their fingers and foot i.e. 1 person per year of his 5 years for the population of youths in Niger Delta that's too small my brother. Try and help others, if what you got is sufficient and sustainable. |

Pavarottii: You mean the 99 other people including you that you mentioned earlier? I believe you about that but my point in that, the number of 100 persons sent for training in 5 years as an achievements of GEJ for his people is just too small even a state govnor can do better in that regard. GEJ was a disappointment period... He could have been a true hero if he lost the elections because of the allegations of concentrating only on his Ijaw people for 5 years without doing anything for other regions but his selfishness was for himself alone. Like I said before try and help others if what you got from him is sufficient for you and sustainable. At least you will be prolonging his legacy that way. |

psalmsjob:I am talking of wat Total did in a year, 100people. Do u know wat other IOC did. Do u know how many thousands were sent abroad by Amnesty prog, NDDC, PTDF, Ministry of ND? U don't get my point. End point is that. We av never felt Nigeria like we did during GEJ's period. He is our Hero. His statue is already in Otueke; his village. We love him with all our heart. And come to think of it. Tell me a any past head of state has come from the Lower Easter Region since the second republic 1966 till prior to GEJ. So why won't the SS and SE be happy to have our own rule for the first time since d inception of Nigeria. My brother u sef use ur brain. Thanks. |

While I am neither calling him a hero nor a non-hero, a hero as a Nigerian president is not to be defined as someone who "did things for his region" but someone who did things for Nigeria. Whereas the things GEJ did where visibly felt in the north and across Nigeria, the things that were done in the south were (and are) also visible. Following, is what another nairalander has to say about this Pavarottii:We have the ND univ, one of the 12 new federal universities he created. What he did was the right thing instead of the narrow and scrawny regional mind set that Nigerians have now come to exalt. We have a ND university in Bayelsa and we also have a new federal university in Katsina. That is the sign of a mind that has transcended scrawny regional politics and approach to development. When it comes to actually taking full advantage of a ND presidency, it was the ND that messed up and not GEJ. GEJ is suppossed to be a president for all Nigerians. The region was supposed to come together, decide their roadmap/blueprint and present it to the centre, which will then support - with a bureaucratic backing and a certain percentage of equity Instead of this scenario, what did we have? We had Amaechi who made himself an enemy of GEJ by his actions, and Delta state, which was in the opposition. With the foolishness of Amaechi, the two states that should at least have had a united front (Bayelsa and Rivers) could not politically unite to present a common front. When it comes to development the truth is that the centre is not supposed to declare unilaterally what the regions need even if it thinks it knows. The regions are supposed to be the major drivers in coming to the final decision about the things they need and the priority that should be attached to each one In conclusion, GEJ did well across Nigeria 1). 12 new universities, 2). almajiri schools, 3). Youwin which I know at least one beneficiary of, 4). fed govt scholarships, 5). the completion of the oil and gas polytechnic in Bonny, 6). the Agric sector, 7). building more roads than any other govt had built - according to Fashola, . improving power generation inspite of gas line sabotage which he complained about and had the say he was giving excuses, 9). attracted foreign investment, 10). saw the economy expand with GDP of over $500bn, less than 10% of which came from oil 11). implemented the local content bill which forced the oil companies to award a specified percentage of the contracts to Nigerian indegenous firms. The amount of Nigerian oil servicing companies that have grown on account of just this one move is great. The amount of revenue they have earned is worth being thankful to all those who had a hand in seeing it through. 12). he also listened to the call of the people and created a conference where the elders and best minds from all across Nigeria were able to voice all their inner lingering concerns, with a view to making recommendations that will make the country live more prosperously and in greater peace, harmony and unity. Please not that many of these things do not just favour one region but can and will be felt across every region of Nigeria. That is what a Nigerian president should be. Someone with the skill, someone with the ability to carry every region and every ethnic group in this big ship called Nigeria, along louqas, mandarin, Ikwokrikwo, QuotaSystem, ArmedRobber ezivision 2 Likes |

Pavarottii: All these multi national companies and government agencies were doing all these things before GEJ and where not directly as a result of him being President. And which past elected president has the SS and SE voted for enmass like we all Nigerians voted for like GEJ or do you think it's just your vote that got him there. A statue of GEJ is in Otuoke?...That's news to me but a good achievement considering its economic importance to the village. GEJ has the chance to be a national hero but he blew it for selfishness and cowardice behavior. But selfishness and cowardice is not a threat of hero's as it were. I must thank you too for not insulting me throughout our discussion, it's uncommon for our people from the oyel region particularly when the topic of their hero is being discussed. |

Pavarottii: The point is why are the NDA and the south south and south east now insisting PMB does only things that favour them ,if pmb appoints people or approve projects they complain of marginalization forgeting Ss/Se is just 2 out of 6 regions in the country .,they expect Gej to do things for the whole country (even doing more for the north than any other region) but are making the country ungovernable for pmb for doing same. See the foolishness. Whenever you hear people argue In support of NDA and iPod these are the points they throw up ,how niger delta owns the oil and as such only them should take everything from oil instead of asking their leaders including Gej how they have spent the monies that have come to the region over the years and should have turned the region around. |

psalmsjob:Thanks. I don't know ur defination of a hero as regards head of state ooo. But wat I know is that a Hero is someone that did well for Nigeria and not just his region. Am not selfish here and wanting him to do things for only d ND. He worked round the clock to make sure every region was carried along and made the economy stable for each and every one of us, not just ND. We know thiings were better during his time round d country than it is now. Wen u guys talk about ND, as if is the people of ND that is sponsoring dem abi is it us that is still sponsoring Biafra. Wen GEJ was president, he had Boko Haram too as an issue. It's ur responsiblity as a president to manage the any issue u av and carry every region along, if buhari as d commander in chief can't manage such matters, den he isn't fit to lead. It's not totally the citizens responsiblities but urs to protect them cos that's wat u signed to do. If he feels the heat is too much, he should gladly resign, let someone else who is lead. U think Obj, Yaradua, GEJ all had it rosy. He is in charge. Let him provide peace, unity and security to the people. Do u think GEJ use to sleep well wen a bomb blew up during his time in the NE part of the country. Everyday Nigerians and the international communities asked him question about, left alone the missing chibok girls that tarnished his tenure. Wen APC was campaigning didn't they use security as a point to canvass vote, the dey blame the people of NE. So why r some people quick to blame the ND people for supporting dem. U think we don't like light, food, salaries and good governance? Or should we go and fight the NDA wiv our hands? With all these challenges. GEJ still achieved thiss. In conclusion, GEJ did well across Nigeria 1). 12 new universities, 2). almajiri schools, 3).
