Mechanics in Nigeria face a lot of challenges, No1 being illiteracy , N02 Being look down upon by the average car owner.

People dont like to pay mechanics the right amount for work done on their cars.

How do you give N1,500= to someone who has spent 5hrs working on your car, you dont even buy the correct parts you insist on economy parts and still hold the poor guy responsible when your car fails forgetting that you didnt heed his advice.

it's not the number of hours you spend on the job that matters. some of them dont know the job and would be doing trial and error. it is the quality of the job done.

During all my working times I get to understand the bridge between a mechanic and the car/truck owner,the car/truck owner is ready to spend millions on any part just to see his machine back to operation but fine it difficult to pay the mechanic for his services,so that made the mechanics to use the part as opportunity to get their money from the owner of the car /truck....
Finally car/truck owners do under rate most mechanics just because of their age, tribe,religion education etc which made them to fall into the hands of the wrong ones.......

May the good lord bless you sir,you simply nailed it,i can't say much about the car mechanics but am very sure of the trucks especially the diesel engines owners,they are ready to spend thousands of naira on spare parts,but give them bill and they start acting strange,and for the dishonest mechanics among us,i just hope that NATA deal with them if caught,this set of people deserve to be disgrace publicly,and one thing i also noticed is that most owners looked down on artisans,i could remember telling one in a yoruba language that"Sir,i need to write your bills"and he just told me"You?what do you know about book and pen"infact,i simply ignored him not until someone around the vicinity told him that am a graduate and will be going for my service very soon,since then he has been going extra length to please me,I agreed,we have the better,the good and the very bad among us.

Learn how to repair AS MUCH of your car by yourself AS POSSIBLE. Do EVERYTHING to learn it.

They will continue to be wicked, until you all get yourselves a scanner. Scan your car b4 u buy and when ever you see the check engine light. Also scan the car too after each repair to confirm nothing else was damaged. if your car is not scan able then you are at their mercy.

And by the way, I have lots of experiences with many of them for many years, not just in Lagos but other parts of southern Nigeria. They are basically the same, though there are a very few sincere/godly ones, like 1 or 2 I knew when I was growing up, that are even Pastors in the church they attend, so they kind of exercise caution in their ways.

But when I met kayode he told me that I need the following compressor, condenser and evaporator I asked him how much and he said 40k and it will take him 2days to fix it. Thanks woman . I had to really take a closer look but can hardly see it. But I'll definitely keep this in mind when I go do a physical inspection of any car I'll be purchasing. Thanks
