Frustration is the reason for the disregard to all you said. If only you know how frustrating job unemployment has been to some people.

In fact, it's so bad that some people see absolutely no reason to continue living. Just imagine the desperation of someone who doesn't have N100 in his pocket and has to depend on another fellow for feeding.

That's true but imagine a situation where you don't have money, depend on hand out from friends or relatives or both, while working. What will you call that.

I once worked in one of the big 4, where people were so frustrated, they would rather quite and stay at home than continue working.

What of working for some organizations or government and they end up owing you for months, are you a charity organization? do you really have a job or just performing a hobby? cheesy

What the op is saying is very valid and important, get as much information as possible before making a decision.

:oAs much as the @op, have made great points, he should be realistic. It takes the grace of God to get a good job these days.

Some of those questions can limit your chances. There was a time those days, I reached out to a staff of a company in interviewed with., the guy was just reluctant to give useful details.

All in all we just keep moving on.

TeamSimple:
God bless you op.
I am presently in similar situation. I went for an Interview earlier this week for a sales staff job at a popular insurance company.
The interviewer told me the pay is 35k. After calculating transport and feeding, it ran into 20k monthly.
Looking at the stress to follow the job of marketing Insurance around, I have been asking myself is it worth it?

You still have 15k left after the feeding and transport. Why not take the job and start from somewhere? It might just be a stepping stone to another level.I know guys that have moved to better jobs from that kind of job.
There was a guy who entered a multinational company to market for his organization. Rather than market their services, he marketed himself right there to one of the managers who gave a listening hear and the rest is history today.

Just start from somewhere.

hi NLers,
help
this is a serious SOS
that is preventing me from evening looking at my phone or checking my airtel account balance.
On Sunday i bought N500 airtel credit in a bus park since i was embarking on a trip.
i loaded it and it was successful. i now had a balance of about N508 thereabout.
between Sunday and Monday i kept receiving e-job 'flash' messages (not even proper sms)
that i kept ignoring them as i was not interested, the jobs were not in my area and I DID NOT SUBSCRIBE FOR E-JOB ALERTS.
By Tuesday i sent a text and received an airtel notification that my text was sent at N4 and my balance is now N124!!!
i was livid! i called customer care immediately and they told me i had subscribed for e-job alerts!
i told them i did no such thing because:
-i have a job to God's glory
-i have worked for a number of years
-my phone is not touch screen so they is no question of if i mistakenly subscribed
the customer care agent gave many gibberish excuses and told me she would unsubscribe from their centre and gave me a format and a number to text to also unsubscribe.
i did still wondering how i would get my over N330 credit e-job alerts had taken.
By Wednesday i still got the alerts and kept checking my credit balance.
to my chagrin i kept watching N30 being taken away with each passing text which were coming in bulk.
i called the customer care line 3 different times, spoke to different people and insisted on speaking with their supervisor which i finally did.
none of the conversations i had with them yielded anything positive.
i was told my credit would not be refunded and i will have to wait for 12 hours before i am removed from the e-job subscription! by then i had N34. after raked for them. i cut the call and got the next e-job alert which also took the last N30!

Nlers i wish to pursue this matter because:
-what is the guarantee that if i re-charge my phone i will not be debited again
-why should my money go? if i had loaded N1000 or more is that how i would have lost my money
-if i had only one line would i have been stranded for the irresponsibility of airtel and overzealous service providers
-i am not the only one that has experienced this
-i did not subscribe why should i be automatically made to pay for what i dd not ask for

I would post this in every possible thread until it gets the attention of airtel.
if anyone know how i can reach NCC to complain pls tell
is there any other way i can get justice
is NCC the only regulatory body
how do i get a more authoritative airtel staff to address this matter?

Help oh... because sadly i have had this line since Econet (2003)
imagine how they are treating such a long time customer.

AIRTEL SCAM ALERT

Not a bad attempt
Re: Just Before You Take That Job, See This by KINGinVAHALA: 3:04pm On Jun 30, 2016
BiafraBushBoy:
The joy of moving out in the morning, the joy of putting on sharp shoes and work attires, the anticipation of getting monthly alerts, the urge of being called a working class guy/girl, the zeal to climb the career ladder has driven lots of youths into untold slavery rather than financial freedom and Job comfort.
LET ME EXPLAIN
As a young student in the finals of a university, all you anticipated about was graduating from school and being employed in one of the biggest firms in the country, with a driver, P.A, Secretary and your own house. You finally graduate and go for the compulsory NYSC and perform all rituals that comes along with it. Now you are good to go, but 3 years after there seems to be no head way yet.
Family members are tired, Parents are complaining, Siblings are murmuring, Guys in the neighborhood are using you as example when stories of unemployment are brought up. But what can you do? you keep asking yourself.
Out of anger, you relocate to Lagos and start the Job hunt seriously. Every job looks enticing to you, you no longer care about other factors. All you need now is JUST A JOB! You start the Job hunt.
Finally you get JUST A JOB and few months later you wake up from sleep around 5.30am (NORMAL TIME IN LAGOS) and all you do is hiss and curse the economy and wish you can just stay at home all day.
The imaginary picture of your office in your head is just like the Last fight in the Spartacus movie, you dread everyone in the office, the feeling of going to work makes you vomit, sick and depressed. All you do is wish you never worked in such a place. Now my question is WHAT HAPPENED??.. Before you take JUST THAT JOB, See this-

1) Terms and Conditions: It is well said that Nigerians are too lazy to read the terms and conditions of anything. All they want to do is just a brief explanation and where they can click or tick "I ACCEPT". Job seekers fail to access all these and all they just take into consideration is
i) How much is my Basic
ii) How many times will i work in a week
iii) Is there any added compensation plan?.... Thats all.
What about other questions like am I entitled to a Leave?
How long will I stay before I become a confirmed staff?
If I fail to meet up with some conditions, what is the penalty?
What benefits can't I enjoy at my stage now... This are few of the questions you need to ask before you dive into the Job...

2) Run a fast Background Check: People have worked there before you. People will still work after you. These are the people that can tell you the truth. I remember attending an Interview and after the interview, I took my time to ask a staff of the firm about some little things(after we became friends) Lo and Behold she told me that... "Any day you come late to work, 1500naira is deducted from your salary, They pay the 2nd week of a new month, etc). I ddin't bother collecting the appointment letter, because i wasn't prepared being a slave in this 21st century.

When you ask questions, You get to know...
i) How your Boss behaves
ii) The working conditions, and every other thing related to the company.

After these questions and you now know the "REAL" firm you are about working for, then you can make your choice.

SO MANY PEOPLE have experienced similar cases from our so called network providers. About a month ago airtel gulped my 200 and refused to refund it. The most annoying thing is that the stupid customer care people are just useless, only to be speaking english they know.

Anyway, I suggest you open a thread concerning this matter and Cc a mod so it can get awareness till it gets to the appropriate table. Dont underestimate the power of nairaland. I recently saw a thread which a nairalander created about being scammed by slot and I think slot later found out through NL and compensated him. Goodluck!

Yeah the Op is right, I got one employment like that with appealing and enticing offer. Only for me to accept it and it was one chance you will work like 40-46 days before you get your salary. It was like cyclic living, you don't get anything. You spend only to survive.
I resigned just 1 and half months into the job.

Not all job offers you must accept.

Don't be discouraged, their training and experience is top notch. Most of my "then" colleagues are now managers in major companies all over Nigeria. Growth is fast and doesn't depend on the growth of the guys above you.

It's stressful and frustrating most of the time, but go in with the mindset of a student ready to learn (don't think about the money).

In another note, it seems people don't get it, I will throw this question out there: there are companies that recruit almost every year or even every 3 months, while others recruit once in maybe 3 years or there about, which one do you think have the better working condition (discounting growth as a factor, since the economy is not so good now)?
Use this question and check the trend in nairaland jobs section.

i) How much is my Basic
ii) How many times will i work in a week
iii) Is there any added compensation plan?.... Thats all.

What's wrong with that?

Are these not the only important factors?

What about other questions like am I entitled to a Leave?

This can only be a relevant question in an organization that can support such largesse.

If you are looking to work in a place that cannot afford leave, and you want leave, you should not be trying to work there.

How long will I stay before I become a confirmed staff?

What the Hell does that even mean? Are you a staff, or aren't you?

If there is a probationary period where they have to assess whether you can really do this job, before you have full staff benefits that will take as long as it takes.

If I fail to meet up with some conditions, what is the penalty?

If you are applying for a job, do you really want to make it appear that you might not do everything that us expected of you?

What benefits can't I enjoy at my stage now... This are few of the questions you need to ask before you dive into the Job..

2) Run a fast Background Check: People have worked there before you. People will still work after you. These are the people that can tell you the truth. As a new employee, you are a threat to current employees.

It may be in their best interest to discourage you.

I don't know how much they were offering in that job, but I doubt that it would be possible to deduct N1,500 per day of late coming!

When you ask questions, You get to know...
i) How your Boss behaves
ii) The working conditions, and every other thing related to the company.

Assuming that you are told the truth!

After these questions and you now know the "REAL" firm you are about working for, then you can make your choice.

These sorts of questions are appropriate to someone who is not desperate to be employed, and has no competition.
