And here lies the nexus of ALL the problems of Nigeria.

The British who colonised us, have successfully interwoven their culture with Christianity. They were all Catholics before King Henry VII decided to marry 2nd wife which the Pope forbade. So he cut himself off from the Pope, the Catholic church and formed Anglican church - Church of England, where he appointed himself as his own Pope. And went ahead to marry the 2nd wife.
Today the Queen of England (Ooni of England), is the head of their own Anglican Church. They are Christians still... (That's a topic for another day).
However, in the case of Nigeria, we have so many little Kingdoms that are forced together by colonialism. The Kings (Oonis) of this Kingdoms are not yet Christians, but their citizens are. Hence the Citizens find themselves serving 2 masters. Following Christ, and keeping village traditions in line with their elders. Those who cannot take it, leave the village and travel to other lands, (Eg. Lagos) and leave behind, their Ooni in the Villiage who has to keep on sacrificing chickens and goats and blowing fire from his mouth.

It is all left for the Ooni to decide by himself whom he shall serve. You can still maintain culture and be a Chrisitian. But you got to stop some pagan practices and adjust to SHOW that you are indeed a Christian. Eg. Christianity does not allow a man to have more than 1 wife. Or Sex before marriage. Got to drop the other wives and stop the premarital sex.

Ignorant dunce. Who told you the Ooni sacrifices chickens and goats and blows fire from his mouth? And you must be the ultimate retar.d to not know that EVERY single Christian ritual is of PAGAN origins. So take your high falutin, fake christian arrogance and stick it up your asss.

you can't eat your cake and have it too. it's not possible. only if you know what is involved in becoming and ruling as a 1st class oba in yorubaland.

Just to give you an hint. In ife, when the king dies. Some body parts are seperated and buried all around the entrances of ife, the heart is removed and made as part of a concussion meal for the coming ooni to eat before he adcends the throne. The family of the last ooni didnt want to surrender his body as they are aware of this, but they eventually did to avoid repercussions on the family.

There is a price you pay for everything irredpective of whether you become born again or not. That is why if you get involved in blood money, and sleep in church from now till thy kingdom come, you would eventually pay.

Since christianity frowns at the above practice, then let us keep religion seperate from culture.
Re: Can A Born Again Christian Be A Traditional Ruler In Nigeria? by tosinjay(m): 6:07pm On Jul 03, 2016
Christians are not deceived, the fact that the Ooni called Jesus his father doesn't mean he's a true believer, in any case as the word "traditional ruler" implies it has tradition to it which means one would have to engage in those traditional rituals and being a Christian it does mean one is serving two masters.

A Christian can be a king/Oba etc and maintain being a Christian but not necessarily a traditional one practicing the tradition of those serving other gods. He keeps to his Christian faith solely and rule the people as a Christian that's the only way for a Christian king. God is not a respecter of persons or traditions.

Still using the Ooni as a case study since he has been in the news lately. If the Ooni is a true christian, let him take heavy weight pastors to the Ogun shrine in oke-itase temple in ife. Let him burn the temple down. He should also go to Obatala and Olokun shrine to do the same. Then publicly renounce his membership of the traditional ogboni cult.
If he fails to do that, then you cant serve two masters at the same time.

Lesser obas can serve jesus wholeheartedly as there is no ritualism involved, but 1st class monarch like the oba of benin, alaafin oyo or the Ooni cannot.

yes, a born again can hold any position ranging from traditional ruler to that of president. The Pope being the highest ranked christian on earth is also the president of the Vatican city the smallest country in the world

Really? What about all the ritual rites and idols that are customary to traditional rule? Especially in Nigeria.
