People make stupid rules, and make vulnerable students sign contracts with clauses which inhibit their rights and may not stand if subjected to scrutiny in a law court. How do you lease a property to a person and trespass on that property while the contract lasts?

Some Landlords are crazy and can make crazy laws to guard their properties . Some Landlord will have as law forbidding you to from putting any nail to your room walls without first of all fitting the rooms with cotton, power change over , fitted LCD, equipped kitchen, upholstery etc. Tenants too have right to privacy as enshrined in 1999 constitution, but these Tenant over reacted by using knife on the Landlord. My advice is always if your Landlord have these crazy laws, look for another apartment elsewhere and let the dead bury their dead. Some of them will even forbid you from having visitors or will restrict you to like two visitors in a day.

Its so unfortunate the student in question got himself into trouble. I am not in support of the killing, but barging into an adult room in such a school environment wasn't appropriate. You cannot unilaterally put a contract in abeyance because you have now come to see a clause in it as infringing on your rights. Unilateral discontinuance is only possible in cases of force majeure,which is not applicable here. If the student entered into the contract knowing that he would not abide by the terms,then he is not only mischievous but equally culpable of a breach.
The law does not prohibit guests from passing the night with their hosts,which is why I mentioned rules and ordinances as agreed upon by property owner and would be occupants.
