Mrjo:
hw many hours a day and hw much it cost u?

Currently this is my setup (24/hrs power - don't use it with AC, i only use my fridge when i have to):

1. Inverter 2.5KVA 36Volt - price should be around 120k now...i bought it 60k plus shipping then from India last year
2. Batteries - 3 (200ah) - bought them 45k then now its upto 85k
3. 120 watt solar panel - 3 - 30k each
4. Solar charge controller 50ah - 30k

initially, i had this setup for just my laptop, TV, DSTV and sound system (24hrs)

1. inverter 1000Watt - 10k
2. battery (LifePo4 battery) - 1 (50ah) - 35k
3. 120 watt solar panel -1 - 30k
4. solar charge controller - 10ah -8k

Even before that i was using the system without solar system (needs at least 6 hours of electricity or generator) (more than 12 hours)

1. inverter 1000 watt 10k
2. battery (LifePo4 battery) - 1 (50ah) 35k
3. DC charger (just like laptop charge to charge the battery) 6k

While you happily multiplied 200 by 75MW to give you 15000MW, you forgot to multiply the cost which is $146 by 200 which should give you $29billion.

The $20 billion power fund they looted was enough to get us there, but we missed that opportunity because of corruption..

Tnk God u v admitted ur spoon-fed fellow northerners own the oil blocs, forget d southwest part u mentioned (u jst did dat to garner opinionated support frm yoruba nairalanders). So u v indirectly admitted dat the Niger Delta Avengers are fighting a good cause by taking back wat belongs to dem. Even u knw dat Ur so-called northern oil bloc owners did not deserve such if not for military rule. So Tnk God for ur lives as far as u enjoy it but I hope ur sorry self won't also comment on any thread advocating for 'One Nigeria' cos by ur comments it has shown u r as tribalistic as ur buhari. Congrats on ur national dominance but one day go be one day.

Like you have a choice; you lazy lots should encourage your capable businessmen if any exists, to invest in the oil sector instead of crying like butthurt cry babies about being excluded and rendered irrelevant.

Right now, the oil industry is dominated by northerners and s/westerners operationally (forget oil blocs) and that's not gonna change in the next ten years.

Let that digest.

200 of 75MW will cost us $29.2b, the questions is can we entrust this huge of money in care of our polithiefchians?
if we can risk it and in a year we have 15000mw, my brother what are we luking for again, naija don better be that, our major problem is electricity.

Good development. And I hope they will have a hand in running the plant to serve as an incentive to others to follow. The present GENCOS are not doing well. They are unable to surmount even the basic challenges and the government must open up the power generating market to more independent players if it continues this way.

Even just 100 solar powered plants will generate 7,500MW @ $14.5billion, and the remaining about 2,500MW from the Oil Plants can generate 10,000MW in total.

It's a start and by the way $29billion isn't much at all for Nigeria, if the electricity distribution companies can be organised by making citizens pay per electricity received. They'll recover the expenditure cost in no time.

This is the simple maths that our leaders, have not asked themselves seriously - despite the improving economics of solar every year, even in countries that hardly see the sun face-to-face.

Let us continue looking for nuclear and all manner of grandiose alternatives -- until the Indians and Chinese harvest our sunlight, and sell back to us.

75MW IS EQUIVALENT TO A POWER GENERATION OF 100MVA (ASSUMING POWER FACTOR = 75%) @ $146 MLN
THIS IS QUITE NEGLIGIBLE COMPARED TO NIGERIA ESTIMATED DEMAND WHICH IS PUT AT ABOVE 45,000MW. WE ARE CURRENTLY GENERATING BETWEEN 3,800 - 5,100MW.
USING THIS MODEL OF 75MW GENERATION AT $146MLN, WE WIIL REQUIRE X600 UNITS TO ACHIEVE 45,000MW = $87.600 BILLION DOLLARS
THIS IS TOO EXPENSIVE, WE HAVE CHEAPER OPTIONS - THERMAL (COMBINE CYCLE), HYDROELECTRIC ETC.

because then there will be no way to ensure victory at the polls. You need ppl hungry and desperate to be able to win election with cups of rice and T-shirt and you don't need bomb to bring darkness upon the land. 81 mm mortar can lob a bomb from 5 km any direction and render the solar Wetin Wetin useless in minutes.

Quote: "...75 mega watts power project valued at $146 million..."
---

Does the solar plant cost $146 million or is the total PPA (power purchase agreement) over the projected period of time valued $146 million?

I think $146 million for only 75 MW as a sales price is expensive.

Here is my cost breakdown for a 10 MW solar plant per MW in Euro:

1) Site preparation/security (max.) 100 000
2) Steel structure 200 000
3) Labour & machines 100 000
4) Premium solar modules 600 000
5) Solar inverter 200 000
6) Switching station 40 000
7) Transformator/HV interconnect 40 000
8. Engineering & design 10 000
9) Project management 10 000
-----------------------------------------------
Total cost 1 300 000 Euro per MegaWatt
not included: profit margin, financing, taxes, transportation

If you build only a single MegaWatt, then it will be rather over 1 400 000 Euro.

Large commercial systems for businesses like 500 kW is 1 500 - 1 600 Euro per kW(peak)
and small commercial systems like 100 kW is 1 700 Euro per kW(peak).
- without batteries. But I'd add batteries to the small commercial systems, because the grid is not stable to absorb the energy.

So, for the moment the only solution is decentralized solar generation with storage. Once the grid is stable, then big solar plants can be interconnected to the grid. Otherwise the solar inverters will switch on and off and it will destabilize the grid even more. And the electronics components inside the inverter will "wear out" faster.

I do not think that the 75 MW project developer have taken this into consideration. They may be able to produce 1 600 kWh/kW(peak) per year on the solar panel, but it cannot be fed into the grid! I bet, the financing partner will get a headache!

Nigeria needs a democratic solution, so that not only the big guys (like JCM Capital = Private Equity firm!) make money.

E.g. the German government's state bank KfW provided cheap financing for solar installation. Let's say market interest rate was 7% per year, the state bank KfW offered 5%. At the same time the state made "profit" on the value-added tax, which is 19% on the solar purchase.
Plus all the taxes for labour, and capital tax on the solar businesses' profits. And the money that the purchaser "saved" by taking a credit, was spent elsewhere which provided economic growth somewhere else, e.g. a new car, new furniture, or just shopping...
So there was a big solar boom, and the state benefited hugely, by only providing 2% interest subsidy!

The private sector needs to be motivated to get solar rolling...
After 7 years of payback, you have free energy for another 18 years! (If lifespan of solar is 25 years)

We are getting there. We just signed agreements for 12 solar power plants and with 4000MW Mambilla and other state IPPs and free flow of gas from Dangote, we are going to hit at list 10000MW in no time.

It's all about solar now and the terrorists can keep blowing anx destroying their land, but one thing they can not do is blow up the sun. The joke and misery is on them..

Please o Nairalanders, come help m b4 ? Burn down someone's house.
I got the UPS, connected it to LifePo4 battery, used it for 30mins then next thing I saw was smoke coming from the wire that connected the battery to the UPS I touched d wire, wire, thing burnt me. I quickly disconnected and checked if any wire was bridging inside the UPS but everything was fine.
I connect just my laptop to the UPS, and FYI, the wires still get hot when nothing Is connected to the UPS.
