one of the most advanced cruise missiles in the world finally met it's match? If these are really fragments from a downed MBDA Storm Shadow, then it means the Russians ain't lying about their superior air defense systems.

Why do people always underestimate Russian equipment?

Shooting down a single cruise missile, or even a couple, is not much of an accomplishment.

You need to be shooting down a consistent 70% or 80% to prove that your defense networks are capable of enduring the kind of sustained fire you would take if the US were to actually go for you.

What we saw in Syria was just a series of strikes, in actual war or intervention, it would be what we saw in Syria but 24/7, thousands of missiles would be fired. Over time, these strikes would overwhelm and degrade local networks to the point that the Americans feel comfortable putting aircraft right over the AO for more effective percision strikes... at which point it is game over.

For consideration

Iraqi Air Defense - Introduction
Iraqi air defenses were redesigned after the Israeli raid on the Osirak nuclear reactor in 1981. A network of radars, surface-to-air missiles (SAM) and antiaircraft artillery (AAA) was installed, primarily concentrated around strategic and industrial facilities in the Baghdad area. The national air defense operations center (ADOC) in downtown Baghdad controlled Iraq's air defenses. The ADOC maintained the overall air picture in Iraq and established priorities for air defense engagements. Subordinate to this facility were sector operations centers (SOC), each controlling a specific geographic area. The SOC and the ADOC were connected by the French-built Kari command and control system. This modern, computerized system linked the diverse inventory of Soviet and Western radar and air defense weaponry. It provided a redundant C 2 capability

You are quite correct. However, the Russians never gave further information concerning the shooting down of the cruise missile. Critical data which we could use to Guage the effective hit-kill ratio. For instance, did they use 10 interceptors against a single cruise missile or did they use just 1.

Such data is invaluable in determining the efficacy of the Russian air defense system.

Also ISRO, in collaboration with RRI, has initiated a project called "Quantum Experiments Using Satellite Technology (QUEST)."

one of the first experiments will aim to establish "a secure Quantum Key Distribution link" between India and Canada.

The DST's Mission-Mode scheme, called Quantum Science and Technology, will fund research "for the development and demonstration" of quantum computers, quantum communication and cryptography, besides "demonstration of quantum teleportation."

you also have to realise that not all cruise missile had unitary warhead, some definitely carried sensitive payload.which after undertaking their mission, afterward self-destructed to hinder their tech from falling into hands of the enemy.also some of those cruise missiles acted as decoys,so that the enemy could shoot them down, thus allowing those same SAM systems to be geo-located,tracked and eventually destroyed or allow american and its allies jets to find safe corridors traverse

An upgraded version of Pinaka rocket, with a guidance system and an enhanced range, was successfully test-fired from the Proof & Experiment Establishment (PXE) at Chandipur in Odisha on Wednesday.

The guided Pinaka was developed jointly by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune, the RCI, and the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad.

Range 80 km , in mountains range higher
100kg warhead

Development work in on for pinaka mk3 range 120km and 250kg warhead

Copy paste.....

The tech demo flight test of “Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR)” propulsion based Missile has been carried out successfully from the Launch Center-III of ITR, Chandipur, Orissa at 12:06 hrs today. The flight test met all mission objectives

SFDR utilizes a unique ramjet propulsion system solid fuel, variable flow, ducted rocket flight control system there by allowing it to engage targets at very long ranges.

This allows the missile with thrust all the way to target intercept, with a very tight NEZ.

Ducted Ramjet Propulsion Technology is capable of producing higher thrust levels during acceleration phase due to higher maximum fuel flow rate which results into shorter acceleration time to hypersonic cruise conditions.

Conventional Rocket Motor based BVRAAMs have higher burning out rate since it works in the same amount of thrust levels from the moment it is fired, which means it can run out of fuel when it reaches its target in longer range and highly manuverable targets can outrun the missile in the last phase if missile is fired from a long range.

Ramjets, by contrast, maintain their peak energy state for longer, delivering power throughout the flight, providing a high though slightly slower average speed and long ranges over a wide operational envelope, from sea level to high altitude.

Unlike traditional rocket motor,SFDR can throttle its engine during different phases of flight especially while approaching its target it can throttle up and able to maneuver and attack even fast maneuvering targets.

It is basically indian analogue to MBDA meteor bvraam.

As there is a good chance that the AAM will have a SAM spinoff.

An IAF Mig-27UPG.

Note the new THALES Laser Ranger and Marked Target Seekers (LRMTS) replaces the older Russian KLEN system.

It is also said that UPG variant has LITENING III and Vinten Vicon photo reconnaissance pod.

Mig-27UPG has also been upgraded with Tarang Mk 2 RWR.

An IAF upgraded Mig-29UPG new features which has been highlighted in the picture.

It has a ELT-568 Advanced Jamming system , which is basically a dual-band self and mutual protection equipment designed to cope with today’s complex threat scenarios. It has a wide frequency coverage from E-J band and has a very high ERP to optimize jamming effectiveness.

IAF Mig-29UPG has 20SPM-01 chaff and flare dispenser control system and BVP-80-26DK (2 each) chaff and flare dispensers. Chaff and flares are defensive mechanisms to defend against enemy attacks effectively.
