Sierrealeone and ECOWAS

Anything that will interfere with Democracy, Peace, Unity and Stability of the Sierra Leone, will not be accepted by ECOWAS and by Nigeria, said Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, The National Security Adviser to President of the Republic Of Nigeria.

We are proud of the leadership of the president of Sierra Leone. We are proud of the Government for taking action and stopping the very unfortunate incident.

The Arm Forces of the ECOWAS countries are fully in support of Sierra Leone, and fully ready and welling to provide any necessary supports whenever called upon,” General Christopher Musa - Chief of Defense Staff, The Federal Republic Of Nigeria, said.

The chairman of the authority as His Excellency indicated, has asked us to underscore the readiness and the commitment of the ECOWAS to support the people of Sierra Leone to strengthening national security by all means, including deployment if need be it regional elements in Sierra Leone. [Dr. Omar Alieu Touray - President of ECOWAS Commission]

These were statement made by the President and other Executive Heads of #ECOWAS during a high powered delegation visit to the president of the Republic Of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio on the 27, November, 2023 at state house in Sierra Leone where they underscored their solidarity and full support for the Government @PresidentBio and the people of Sierra Leone🇸🇱.

Always blaming the wrong people.
IMF is not blame.
Africa leader crushes their economy.
They run to IMF
IMF recommend painful treatment - chemo/radiotherapy and surgies.

Now mo.orons like you remember the painful treatment - dont remember who caused this (Buhari for you).

Now you're going to blame Tinubu/IMF (doctors giving your very painful medication) for the disease caused by Buhari.

Idiots like you fail to realize that IMF has been largely ineffective in Africa. You blindly believe everything foreign is good.
IMF's decision making is always a one-size-fits-all for poor countries. They've made so many mistakes in the past but have not learned a single lesson. They'll always leave Africans poorer with the kind of reforms they force your stupid leaders to take.

No, each particular country has its own peculiar "mess".
Kenya's problems can not be the same as Ghana's or Nigeria's. But the same pills given to Kenya or Ghana are the same Nigeria or Tanzania will receive as long as IMF is concerned. Honestly, the same kind of reforms are being employed by Tinubu and Ruto.

it means an increase in productivity and a smart move. It also means a new stream of jobs

The biggest challenge will be to make sure that businesses do not take the benefits without increasing productivity (fraud).

The second challenge will be how to open new markets for export opportunities.

Demonstrate the difference btw debt ridden defaulted Ghana and Zambia
Or btw debt distressed Nigeria or Kenya.
Same problem of debt overhang - same solutions - raise revenues or reduce expenditure
Treatment for cancer is either radio therapy, chemotherapy, surgery or a combination.
IMF deal with financial cancers.
Once you're out of danger - you can go and implement unique reforms.

I think security and technology will rather be the biggest challenge, even in the current 8 hour economy will operate now , there is risks on some buisness particularly in the financial services, we also have issues with the use of local old fashioned of growing farm crops and legumes assuming, we want to involve agriculture into this operation

If the above challenge can be tacked reluctantly, I see it addressing unemployment. More wages/ and high employment usually comes with high productivity.

IMF has not required Kenya to sell.
Ruto planned to sell 35 SEOS this year.
And by time he is done - I hope 100 will be gone.
Kenya has nearly 250 state owned enterprises.

Safaricom, one of the most successful and innovative companies in Afrika used to be fully owned by the government of kenya, they still partially own 35% but
they now pay the largest amount of taxes to the government of any company in kenya

You're right. Ruto had zero plans of selling state corporations. After borrowing 4 Trillion in one year he ran to the IMF like Moi did in the 90s because he realized he lacks the brain power and resourcefulness to create revenue to repay the huge debt he has gobbled up. The black fool has borrowed 4 trillion Kshs in one year and still wants to convince us he needs IMF. What for?
For comparison Uhuru borrowed 6 Trillion in 10 years!!.

Still bitter Jaluo Jinga.

This was Ruto last year - barely a month in office - I guess he was already indebted to IMF smiley

"My administration will revitalise the capital markets by privatisation of State-owned enterprises, where divestiture is overdue and strategic," said the president.

In investment, a divestiture is the partial or full disposal of a business unit through sale, exchange, closure, or bankruptcy, and often results from a management decision.

NIGERIAN YAM MARKET

ZAKI BIAM IS THE BIGGEST YAM MARKET IN THE WORLD WHERE OVER 2 MILLION TUBERS OF YAM ARE SOLD WEEKLY?

So where is Zaki Biam:
Zaki Biam, in the Ukum LGA of Benue State and has been described as the place with the biggest yam market in the world.

Nigeria is by far the largest producer of yams, accounting for over 70–76 % of the world’s production.

According to a Food and Agricultural Organization @FAO report, Nigeria averagely produces 18.3 MT of yam annually from 1.5 million hectares, representing 73.8 % of total yam production in Africa.

According to Tiv People, a blog focused on the Tivoid ethnic group mainly found in Benue state, over 2 million yam tubers are sold weekly at the market.

This market is a Hub for yam trade and a cultural and economic centre.

The market is said to have gained international recognition for its significant contribution to the yam industry and attracts buyers and sellers from all around Nigeria, Africa and the world.

“The market’s reputation for quality and quantity has made it a preferred destination for traders, exporters, and customers interested in purchasing yams in bulk.

“As you visit this market, you will witness a vibrant and lively atmosphere. Traders, farmers, and vendors engage in enthusiastic bargaining and negotiation.

“The market provides a showcase of different yam varieties, sizes, and qualities, ensuring that customers have a wide range of options to choose from,” the blog stated.

In June 2020, the FGN inaugurated a yam storage facility in Zaki Biam to store up to 200,000 tubers of yam.

The then vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, did the inauguration and explained that the market has few storage facilities, hence the storage facility’s construction.

A huge chunk of the 2 million tubers of yam sold weekly from the market in Benue state and are transported through this market located in the bustling, nostalgic, town of Zaki Biam in Ukum local government area. Between 120 and 200 truck loads of yams depart from this market on a daily basis. The yams come from various farmlands around Zaki Biam and Ukum as well as neighbouring Katsina Ala Local Government.

Exactly. Farmers produce and due to logistics mainly and Bandits in some areas, just distribute in a small circle, export to Chad. Niger, Cameroon or mostly have lots of stuff wasting.

If logistics were right, then we would have enough to export through the ports in Lagos or ensure more ports in.the South are fully functional for exports.

There's no way Nigeria can export as much yam as Ghana. I'm not sure what we produce is actually enough for Nigeria's huge population. Ghana is less than 30m people while Nigeria is more than 150m.
