Why is this man just mentioning foil and gas. No diversification of way of generating power. when dia oiel dried up, that is when they will start thinking of other way of generating power

Selling the GENCOs at that time was the best thing to have happened but i dont quite agree with the way it was handled. Any ways, as pointed out by the MD Egbin Power plant, the government has to sell of TCN so that investment can be made on improving the transmission component of our power infrastructure.

Government has to take its hands off all these and allow the much needed growth in the power sector.
it is very rare for a Nation to totally privatize such strategic asset as it will leave them open to being arm-twisted or held ransom. what should be done is full commercialization under competent management without political meddling which is impossible in our dear Nation.
by the way, people should also stop stealing the little we are producing and pay for what they consume.

This is the bane of the problem with the power sector. Most thought that could just come in and reap profits almost immediately. They used the example of telecoms sector to show why (SincereNigerian)

This is not a PDP or APC issue and the longer we play politics with it the longer we stay in darkness.
Issues with the power sector

1) The private investors: Many of them came in unprepared. Power is capital intensive with a low profit margin. To invest in power, you should budget at least 10 years before you start reaping.
2) Transmission: This is the only part of power sector that government controls (for a reason) and it is the weakest sector by design. We run a centralised distribution network (same structure as the country) and that needs to be broken. It should be decentralised along regions and either given to the states or sold to private investors. Again , this is capital intensive.
3) Pricing: power is actually cheap and consumers don't want to pay more (there's a chicken and egg scenario here and it's what I believe Fashola should solve)
4) Vandalism: we all know this one.

PS: there's really little Fashola or anybody can do right now as regards power generation and the power ministry is one ministry that should scrapped.

Before anybody says Barth Nnaji, remember at his time the government was in charge of generation.
sensible man

Dumbo sold power companies to cash and carry traders who don't know what they are doing. Presidential stupidity.
All Utility companies in the world are LOW MARGIN, LONG BREAK EVEN assets. You don't import petrol and sell that and carRyan that stupid mentality into Utility business

a simple google search will show you that privatization started 2005 with the EPSR act and was completed with handing over by November 1st 2013. "Dumbo" was not the president then. unless all you refer to someone else has "Dumbo".

edit: checked your posts and realized that you actually refer to GEJ as " Dumbo". while I don't know what made him deserve that name(given that you all voted him in "only the dumb votes a dumb man in"wink,
a zombie is not much different to a wailer as far as I am concerned. they are both impoverished individuals with slave mentality trying to justify to the world what they don't belief in just to get their next pay.

Actually Egbin is the largest gas fired plant in the country by a wide margin followed by the one at Ughelli or Sapele
youngice:

It's our base plant

So how does that justify Nigeria being in darkness if Egbin is down?

The point is no matter how big Egbin is, it is not the only power plant in Nigeria and can't be in darkness because of it.

Is Egbin the only power plant in Nigeria, how can he make such statement?
we need Egbin to stabilize the system if Egbin goes out completely. I assure you there will be system collapse and it will take weeks to get us back to around 1500-2500MW.

That is not what I am saying.
from what you are saying does that mean if Egbin is down no other power plant will function putting us in darkness until Egbin is up and running?

Candid. The present problems in power are typical Nigeria problems. Without full privatisation and liberalisation will never be overcome.

Things wouldn't be this bad if the people who left power made any attempt to increase power generation

Instead they sold to Family and friends under privatization, What scares me is the brazen act of fraud , If NEPA was privatized / Sold , Why is FG having to pay them ?? Scam 1

Same thing Applies to our refineries, Instead of increasing production capability , repairing or even building new refineries, El Fortunado and PDP Inc increased less than 40 Importers of Crude to 120 Importers which comprised mainly of family and friends and partners

Some people now have the audacity to blame other people , abi ? Even Professor Peller had his limits
FG does not use power, they use lightning, bolt and thunder for their day to day activities.

Not bills owed
