For the umpteenth time, hundreds of members of the Ijaw Youth Council staged a protest in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on Thursday, October 6, 2016.

According to report from our correspondent, the aggrieved Ijaw youths complained about the alleged persecution of former President Goodluck Jonathan and members of his family.

It was gathered that human and vehicular movements along Sani Abacha Road and Isaac Boro Expressway in Yenagoa was disrupted due to the protest that began about 8am.

The protesters, who carried out their agitation under heavy security presence, also alleged that the Muhammdu Buhari administration had not been funding the interventionist agencies and projects in the Niger Delta.

As a result of the protest, business and commercial activities were disrupted for some hours in the metropolis.

Also, there was congestion in some parts of the metropolis which forced motorists and commercial drivers to make a detour to escape the heavy traffic jam.

Passengers and commuters were stranded as many were seen trekking to get to their workplaces and business centres.

Riot policemen were seen blocking some parts of the roads to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

Many of the protesters, during the protest, were seen chanting protest songs with placards bearing inscriptions such as, ‘Stop harassing Jonathan’s family’, ‘Leave Patience Jonathan alone’, ‘If you must probe Dame Patience Jonathan, all the former first ladies must be probed’, and ‘We need projects in Niger Delta, not soldiers.’

President of IYC, Mr. Udengs Eradiri, while addressing co-protesters in front of the headquarters of IYC, said that the protest was to send a message to Federal Government about the attitude of the EFCC towards the family of Jonathan.

He said the country had produced a lot of first ladies but the only one from the Niger Delta was constantly harassed by the EFCC.

I pity some youths, If truly she is not guilty of the charges, let her go to court and vindicate herself, I don't know the work she did that made her so rich like that, I believe in any rumour there is element of truth.....This issue is crystal clear and fool proof that she also............ our resources.

That's why their state governor said he will continue to pay them half salary. Because he's has realised that ijaw people like praising those that are suffering them. Only 8 local government council. Bayelsa is one of the highest paid states in Nigeria but nothing to show for it in Bayelsa state. All because they like worshipping thieves all in the name of "na our brother" useless fools. Suffer head go kill them except they change their altitude.

Nigerian youths way too docile nd weak just like peter obi said..these people toying with our future..and all we do is to defend and support them...watched how south African students closed down all the schools in S.A over fee hikes...upon say south african universities even far better than most European universities..they were so resilient nd determined nd together that even when the minister of education wz addressing them almost crying..they were still shouting at him..but here in Nigeria.. anytin goes..they play with our future at will and all we do is to wait for old men and women in ASUU fight for us..while we js sit at home and eat and text our baes..nd say I don care...and of Cus vote for this same people again and again Cus they are from our tribe...sighs....

Buhari ran the country economy aground into recession & made states run into billions of debt by borrowing so governors could not pay salary because Mr Buhari lacks what it takes to rule.
This protest should have being @ Aso villa.

The biggest irony is that Bayelsa doesnt have ordinary "airport" and 'their brothers wife" that they are protesting for had millions of dollars in her personal account for "upkeep"............... Let us even agree for the sake of argument that it is "witchhunt" these people should list major projects that they benefited from when "their brother" was in power............ angry angry

I pity today's youth, I wonder what they protesting for beside the EFCC did not invite patience Jonathan, they were only investigation some fraudulent phony companies that ate our yam, so they frose the companies account only for Mrs Jonathan to appear that the money are hers.

Now the question how did PEJ get whooping $30M, yes she was first lady and also perm sect in Bayelsa but has she declared that money on leaving office to CCB, she just caught herself by herself. Out of greed, instead of just keeping quiet and eating her other untouched loot.

One thing that gives me joy is that the EFCC chairman, Magu doesn't read Nigerian newspapers, he doesn't listen to local radio stations nor watch local TV stations. He is not a Nairalander and doesn't visit local blogs. So, there is no how he will see this. Wasted effort by mumu youths!
