1931 Population Figures Of Nigerian Ethnic Groups- Colonial Annual Report 1933. by Igboid: 2:34am On Oct 11, 2016
This is interesting.

The 1931 colonial population figures ranked the major Nigerian groups as follows:

1 Hausa

2. Igbo

3. Yoruba

4. Fulani

5. Kanuri

6. Ibibio

7.Tiv

8. Edo

9. Nupe

10. Ijaw.

The 1921 estimate also placed Ndiigbo ahead of Yorubas.

Nigeria has not conducted a population census with space for ethnic group composition of the country since 1960.
Yet since the end of the war, there have been this subtle propaganda, that seems to place Yoruba population ahead of those of Ndiigbo, even though there no recent data to prove that, and the colonial documents of 1921 and 1931 that I just posted seem to be saying otherwise.
This to me is a misinformation that must be corrected.

There has never been a time Yorubas were more populous than Ndiigbo.

On a side note. The Ijaws claim to being 4th largest can also be seen to be bogus, going by this 1931 population projection, Ijaws are at most 7th.

NB: The colonial were well aware of Yoruba communities indigenous to the North. Read the last part of the attachment below.

For example, in CIA world fact book. You find ridiculous claims like this:

Hausa and Fulani

29%
Yoruba

21%
Igbo

18%
Ijaw

10%
Kanuri

4%
Ibibio

3.5%
Tiv

2.5%

Who exactly came up with those ridiculous numbers?

In what planet are Yorubas more populous than Ndiigbo?

This information from CIA world fact book seem to have originated from Nigerian sources and was politicized before submission to them.
It simply has no source or ground. Just from thin air and must be debunked until Nigeria adds space for ethnicity in the next census.

Igboid,
You ibos told us that Yoruba was limited to Oyo only and that Lagos is Awori, Ogun is Ijebu and Egba, Ondo and Ekiti are Ijesha and Ekiti people, Kwara is fulani.

So the population you are looking at coincides with the era Ibos concluded as distinct people of Western region identifying by their dialect and is excluded from Yoruba, which according to you is OYO only.

So, the population count you are looking at and giving comparison is just Oyo against entire Iboland.

How do you feel?

How exactly did the Ijaws rise from 10th in 1931 to claiming 4th today, ahead of Kanuri, Ibibio, Edo,Nupe, and Tiv.

Are they saying that men from the above mentioned groups stopped reproducing, while the Ijaws reproduction rate quadrupled?

You are free to do your worst.

I felt wrong information were being passed about my ethnic group, while yours benefited from such wrong information to the detriment of mine.

There is no way I can correct the wrong information, without singling out groups that benefited from such wrong information.

You are ignorant.

Zik and Ironsi combined period as the president of Nigeria and Head of state respectively, is less than than the amount time GEJ a SS minority from Ogbia tribe in Bayelsa spent as the president of Nigeria. Never mind that Zik never had absolute power as a president.

Ibori is currently in prison for looting Delta state dry.

Next time when you go on your rantings, keep Ndiigbo out of it.

They are genuine.

This is about setting the records right. Nothing to chest beat about that.

The current ethnic composition of Nigeria is Unknown. So the lies of Yoruba being 21% of Nigerian population, while Ndiigbo are demoted to 18% and Ijaws elevated to 10% must stop from henceforth. As they lack any historical basis.

The poverty made them produce more. Generally wealthier group have less children see Europe and japan. As society get wealthier having more children is harder because of expensive of raising children.

Great!

Im sure you read where the reporter said Yoruba is majority in Southern but also have provinces in Northern. There are two Yoruba provinces in North, Kabba and Ilorin. Add their population to the Colony (Lagos) and total with the number already given for Yorubas counted in Southern.

Where does Ibo stand in comparison to Yoruba?

Northern Yorubas were added, ie those in present Kwara and Kogi.
The total figures for SW were as follows:

Lagos- 325,020
Ijebu- 374,872
Ondo- 462,650
Oyo- 1,336,928
Abeokuta- 434,526
Total-. 2,933,966.

Yet the total figure given for Yorubas in 1931 was 3,166,154.

Its only common sense to know that the 232,158 deficit there was accounted for by Yorubas in the Northern province.

Same thing happens when you sum up the figures for Owerri and Onitsha provinces, they come short of the Igbo 3,172,789 figure. Common sense says that the Western Igbos in Warri and Benin provinces, accounted for the deficit observed.

It said that bulk of the Yoruba people were in the Southern provinces. It never said Yorubas were the majority in the Southern provinces.

Count Yoruba, not region. Kabba and Ilorin was counted and given to North. Colony was counted separate because it was not a pronvicial administrative power.

It is evident that Yoruba is the single majority tribe in Nigeria, going by the 1933 report shared in this thread.

If we add Hausa-Fulani as a cojoined tribe, then Yoruba is second.

Thanks Igboid for bringing this tables out you definitely busted a myth tonight and confirmed in my support that Yoruba is the father of all tribes in Nigeria. grin

The 2015 election also proved that Igbos are more than Yorubas

Yorubas/Hausas/Minorities= 15million votes Buhari

Igbos/Minorities= 12million votes Jonathan

The close gap shows that Igbos are more than Yorubas

Kabba and Ilorin are regions occupied by many tribes that is why the Colonial administrators did it by tribe.

So your submission is wrong
