justwise: You deleted my response too. But this is not fair now. I haven't even digested the info. Is this thread not meant to help people in need. If you claim companies/individuals pay to put up adverts on nairaland. Please can you direct me to an advert regarding accommodation near HNWMC. 2 Likes |

Anu18: Its not my job or part of my responsibilities here to feed you with info, some of those companies mentioned in that post used to place an ad here then they stopped and started using members here to get clients for them. A simply google search will give you list of accommodations close to the hospital you want to use. |

@Justwise. If name of hotels that render accommodation services mentioned here is adjudged by you to be form of advert. Kindly tell me if HNWMC and name of other hospitals mentioned on this thread are advert or not. Have you ever delete post that contain hospital names? justwise: |

Please I want to find out if: 1. You declared at Interview that you knew someone in the US or would be staying with someone. 2. If your excess cash of 10k was declared prior to boarding. brooklyn20: |

Oluwadamilola89: You're young, no kids. Your sister went to the US and got married there... what's to suggest to the VO that you are not planning to do the same? Now that you're pregnant i think you should have a better shot - just my opinion, which may be wrong. But there's no harm in trying again. 3 Likes |

Hello everyone, thumbs up to all the folks making this thread awesome. Pls I have a question, I have used my B1/B2 visa a couple of times for vacation and at no time did I spend more than 3 weeks. Now I am pregnant and hubby already gave me $9,000 for the trip. Plan on travelling in February, we have correspondence with the doctor but deep down I really want to try water birth experience as I have had 2 kids virginally without any complications. My question is: I hear using a birthing centre is a red flag, how true this is? We just want our last baby to have a dual citizenship and this intent I will disclose at the POE. Thanks for your response in advance. |

So excited to finally share my POE experience!!! i got my Visa in April last year, hubby and i had planned a vacation but we ended up not going, i went to the Uk instead. Fast forward to June this year, i found out i was pregnant nd decided i was still going to have my baby in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Sent the infamous intent letter to the embassy and got the generic reply. Doctor and hospital sorted. Cash sorted. We planned a week babymoon at South beach miami, so we had Hotel reservation sorted aswell. so moving on.... Had to fly Air peace to Lagos and was asked for my fit to fly both at Check in and boarding luckily i was just a few days passed 27weeks and their limit is 28weeks so basically i was good to fly. Air France on the other hand didnt ask for Fit to fly from Lagos -paris - Miami. Got to Miami and the CBP uncle just read through our landing Card and asked if our cash was in Naira, and my hubby said yes, and he stamped my husband in for 6months, and was stamping my passport when i coded my hubby to tell the guy what we were her for: DH: i will be here for 2weeks while my wife will be here for a few months. CBP: No problem!! sent us away with a lady to cash declaration: CBP: hello, there..what are you here for?? DH: Vacation and my wife will stay back to have our baby CBP: oh wow!! congratulations ma'am!! me: Thank you!! CBP: so what do you do?? DH: i am a pilot!! CBP: Get out of here!! who do you work for?? DH: ***** CBP: so fill this form.... CBP: ok let me see the cash... After DH shows him the money, he joked about it being monopoly money, we all laughed and said our goodbyes. SHIKENA!!!! I am in the Hotel now cooling my 'swollen' heels... So grateful to God for the amazing journey, i was really worried about the VISA issue and how much the change of intent letter was either going to make or break my Journey but i daresay my POE experience was a BREEZE!! 12 Likes |

Hello sis Pls can I get contact or website of the hospital you used at Marietta Georgia as I have a free accommodation offer there and would like to compare with my paid accommodation options in Houston to enable me make an informed cost decision Pls Iwuoha.samuels@yahoo.com Thanks so much |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 5 by TWoods(m): 1:37pm On Dec 02, 2017 |
Unfelt: As the VOs have told us here time and time again, the change of intent letter is not read and not associated with your application, so CBP never got it and never read it. Your concern should be on renewing your current visa when it expires. I would wager you will not be able to simply renew by dropbox. 2 Likes 1 Share |

TWoods: Does the average American have the 5000 - 8000 USD to pay in advance and cash that most of the people on this thread pay? If I am giving you my money at once and in advance, there's a price for that. I think that's the justification for the discount. If you notice, most of the discount packages have a time frame attached to it. Sometimes you have to pay up to a month in advance, or at least before discharge. And when you don't, the offer lapses and you have to pay the full price. |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 5 by TWoods(m): 1:47pm On Dec 02, 2017 |
honeychild: That is not really true. Many Americans would more than happily pay cash if this was a option, with huge discounts. It is true that some discounts are due to the fact that you're paying in cash, however these are most likely not the norm. It is more likely that you get discounts because these hospitals are in low income areas that are already paid by the Feds to subsidize care for the poor. It is a lot easier to give you a discount and then bill Medicaid at the end of the year than have hundreds on payment plans that most are not expected to honor. It is not a discount if you're paying $5000 for a procedure that costs the average American over $20,000. 2 Likes 1 Share |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 5 by honeychild(f): 2:03pm On Dec 02, 2017 |
TWoods: Lol. I have a huge network of extended family in the US - siblings, in-laws, cousins in every part of the country. Most citizens. All hustling their butts off and living from pay check to pay check. Some college educated some not. Not one of them can or will even dream of paying the cash sums Nigerians pay. Abeg leave story. And if it's true that the hospitals actually pass the bills on to the govt, I still don't think the people on this thread are the right target for your venom. You have been here long enough to know that most people on this thread are not your average Nigerian and actually want to do what's right. 9 Likes |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 5 by TWoods(m): 2:08pm On Dec 02, 2017 |
honeychild: That is far from the truth. The only reason is because they now know that not doing what is right has a severe impact on their continued ability to renew their visas. Remove that incentive and most Nigerians will try to find ways to lie and cheat. Secondly, your "network of extended family" is not representative of the average American experience. I have no idea what they do but i would comfortably pay $5000 cash for a medical procedure if that was an option. Not all of us live paycheck to paycheck. I daresay the case is the same for a lot of middle class to upper middle class Americans. 2 Likes |

TWoods: TWoods: @TWoods...may i make 2 points real quick....I've been giving it alot of thought and I think: 1) humans as a specie are intrinsically "not good" except when we have been saved from our "evil" ways...so regarding your characterisation of Nigerians as liars and cheats....we are...no doubt about it....my argument would be that we are not alone...the only reason other nationals seem to "behave" is because their countries have consequences for bad behaviour. That's why a British man who lives in Nigeria will likely go on a one way road, though he would never dare to do it in Knightsbridge!!! We are not the worst of the human race...our laws are just not being enforced...this would also explain why emigrants like you would appear to be good....you're just in a climate where not wearing your seatbelt atttacts a $100 fine!!! You may argue that the lack of law enforcement is itself an indication of our "badness"...i leave that argument about institutions for another day....i would say though that institutions are not built in a day....the great USA of today had a wild wild west history 2) also if Nigerians are so terrible and Americans are so great then why are the hospitals you imply are passing off discounts as Medicaid not being checked out......are they not breaking the rules by so doing. ..ignorance is not an excuse.... they cannot claim to not know who's are resident and who isn't. Surely they are ways to check! And one last point...sorry..i know I said 2. I don't know how much of a discount constitutes Medicaid fraud but I live in Lagos and use medical insurance from a reputable company at a reputable hospital and my bills if I pay cash are almost 50% of what it is when I just sign off for insurance to pick up..explanation i was given ..... because of the delay in receiving funds from the insurance company and the likelihood of insurance to decline some payments...arguments about pre-existing conditions etc....i would imagine the process in the U.S. would even be more challenging as they have so many no insurance companies...... 13 Likes |

mamaron: Interestingly, i did agree with many of the things you have said, but there are some i would push back on a bit. 1. I left Nigeria precisely because i felt it no longer represented who i was. I am a stickler for law and order, i do not ever give bribes as i thought it made no sense since i should not be giving you a monetary incentive to do a job you're being paid for. No, i don't appear good because i live in a country of laws. I made the choice to move here because i prefered to live among people who stick to the rules. If Nigeria ever got to that point, i'll be first on a flight back. 2. Institutions are not built in a day, but the experience of China, South Korea, Japan, Ghana and South Africa, tells me that time isn't our problem. We just do not want to change. 3. "Surely there are ways to check" is a terrible excuse. America is a huge country, not every detail is checked... least because you are expected to do the right thing at all times, without having to be policed. No one checks if i put my thrash in the bush outside my house, but i don't do that, simply because it is wrong. I wear seatbelts, not because i am afraid of a fine (who is checking anyway?) but because i value my life and the added safety using a seatbelt offers. Hospitals are not immigration offices, it is not their duty to check your immigration status before treating you. In some states i think there is actually a law against them doing this. It is your duty to clearly specify that you are not entitled to government funds for your medical care. That they don't check should not be an excuse. 4. Medicare and medicaid fraud is a huge problem here. As i mentioned before, it is true that you will get a discount for paying in cash over using medical insurance... but a lot of the time, the discount isn't because you paid cash. It's because the hospital you use can simply bill the feds for healthcare provided to you. It's big business and makes them a ton of money. Why do you think they come here looking for patients? Do you think it's because they've run out of pregnant Americans here? 4 Likes |

Your points are just spot on...... Was about saying the same things. Maybe @Twood will try and add some adjectives to the reference to Nigerians..i.e some Nigerians or many Nigerian and not just blind generalisation cos I know and believe not ALL are corrupt and criminally minded as you think. mamaron: 2 Likes |

honeychild: Which is probably why you would give an arm and a leg to give your child a passport to their lifestyles right? the truth is for all it's worth, this thread represents less than 0.1% of Nigerians. 99% cannot afford $5000 and live far worse than the average poor American. I would not be far off in saying that the vast majority of Nigerians who can comfortably afford $5000 cannot boast of earning that money legitimately. I think the Americans are just fine with their "credit card funded, debt ridden lifestyles". As the VOs have said here time without number, you are free to exclude you and yours from their lifestyles. Last i checked, they are not looking to trade it in for Nigeria. 5 Likes 1 Share |
