How we rescued kidnapped corps members – Police
Chukwudi Akasike

THE Rivers State Police Command has said the five abducted corps members, who regained their freedom on Sunday, were rescued by mobile policemen on a stop-and-search duty on Port Harcourt-Owerri Road.

The five corps members were kidnapped in Omademe Community in Rivers State by gunmen who ambushed them on their way to inspect their community development project.

State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ben Ugwuegbulam, said on Monday that efforts by the police, State Security Service and the Army to effect the release of the abducted mother of one Chief Okoroma led to the eventual rescue of the five corps members.

Ugwuegbulam explained that the corps members were sighted and freed in Omerenu, along Port Harcourt-Owerri Road and were immediately handed over to the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier-General Matarazu Tsiga.

The state police spokesman said, “Police Swift Operation Squad and the Anti-kidnapping teams, supported by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Omoku, were making effort to rescue the mother of Chief Okoroma who was kidnapped on June 17, 2011 at Obrikom.

“That effort did not only lead to the rescue of the old woman at about 3pm on Sunday at Ama, Omoku, it also added to the pressure sustained on the kidnappers of the corps members by the police, State Security Service and the military.

“Thus at about 9.30pm on Sunday, the five kidnapped corps members were sighted and rescued by mobile policemen conducting stop-and-search at Omerenu along Port Harcourt-Owerri Road.

“Victims have been handed over to the highly delighted D-G NYSC, Brig-Gen. M.I. Tsiga in good state of health.”

Ugwuegbulam, however, said the police had intensified efforts toward ensuring that the kidnappers were apprehended and brought to book.

THE PUNCH gathered that the affected corps members were taken to Abuja by the NYSC D-G immediately they regained their freedom.

The State Public Relations Officer of the NYSC, Mr. Ben Esan, who also confirmed the rescue of the corps members, expressed delight with the development.

Someone please explain to me what kind of cretin this Chukwudi Akasike is.

Tears as Murdered Banker is Laid to Rest
Chiemelie Ezeobi and Yinka Olatobosun

There was free flow of tears and emotion Wednesday as the remains of the female banker, Titilayo Omozoje Arowolo (nee Oyakhire) murdered five months ago, was laid to rest at Atan Cemetry, Sabo-Yaba, in Lagos. Titilayo was a staff of Skye bank, until she met her untimely death.

Getting her three-year old daughter, Olamide, to perform the dust-to-dust rites at the grave side, further evoked more tears from sympathisers and family members.

Olamide, who looked pensive and understandably dull, was supported by the deceased’s siblings, Daniel, Emohita, Aidehi, Idokua, Emi, Folake and her cousin, Agbons Okhawre as they all paid tributes to the deceased before dropping wreaths on the coffin.

The burial came five months after the deceased was allegedly murdered by her husband, Kolade.

According to the family, they decided to bury her despite the failure of the police to bring the suspect to justice. They added that it was also  to save the family from the continued trauma arising from her gruesome murder.

It would be recalled that the deceased was allegedly murdered by her husband at their no 8 Akindeinde Street, Isolo, on June 25, after an argument. The suspect was said to have stabbed Titi several times before she bled to death.

Upon arrest, Kolade claimed the deceased stabbed herself to death after attacking him. He is presently in court facing a murder charge. Earlier, a funeral service at the Foursquare Church, Alagomeji, Yaba,  was organised in her honour.

Officiating priests, Reverend Sylvester Aigborin, and Pastor Ayo Binitie,  prayed  God to give the family the fortitude to bear their loss.
Waxing philosophical, Binitie urged the mourners to remember that life is a fleeting trip and as such they should always live right.

He said, “Titilayo was a daughter to me and I know her as someone jovial and loving and so I am sad that I am here officiating her funeral. I pray that affliction would not visit the family a second time.

Also speaking, one of the younger sisters of the deceased expressed their pains and anguish at the continual denial by Kolade. She called on the authorities to  see that the law takes it course and justice prevails.

Speaking to newsmen, Director, Project Alert, Dr. Josephine Chukwuma, noted that Titilayo’s case was painful because she suffered the domestic abuse silently.

Urging all victims of domestic violence to cry out for help before it becomes too late for them, Chukwuma called on all religious bodies to help promote the fight against abuse.

According to Nelson Ekoh, the family lawyer and spokesperson, a coroner’s inquest into the cause of the death of the slain banker would commence on Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ebute Metta, Lagos at 10a.m.

Two cretinous quacks collaborated to write this?

And the junk, foolish editor approved it?

World Bank, UN, govs extol Ibru’s virtues
Sesan Olufowobi, Simon Utebor and Oyetunji Abioye

The United Nations, the World Bank, governors and prominent Nigerians on Wednesday joined others to mourn and extol the virtues of the late The Guardian publisher, Alex Ibru, who died on Sunday.

Empowered Newswire reported that the AU-UN Joint Special Representative in Darfur, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari; Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Prof. Joy Ogwu; Vice President in charge of Africa at the World Bank; Dr. Oby Ezekwesili; and US-based Nigerian oil magnet Dr. Kase Lawal; lamented the death of Ibru.

According to Ezekwesili, Alex Ibru was one of the nation’s best socially responsible business leaders. She said, "He will be greatly missed by every Nigerian who seeks a rebirth of those core values that drove him to cherish reward from strenuous effort."

Gambari said, "He was a real national asset. He was also a wonderful human being, an exceptional role model and a real national asset. His passing away would not only create an enormous hole in his immediate and extended family but makes Nigeria poorer indeed."

Lawal said, "He set a new standard in Nigerian journalism when he brought together the founding team of The Guardian about three decades ago."

Ogwu said, "Alex Ibru was a pioneer in the press. He started an intellectual newspaper and was able to sustain it. He died too soon."

Rivers State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Chibuike Amaechi, said Ibru’s death was a huge loss to the nation.

Amaechi added, "He was a pacesetter who brought and stood by professionalism in our country’s media industry."

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, described the late publisher as a colossus.

"He touched all parts of Nigeria; that is why I flew into Lagos today to pay my respect on behalf of Akwa Ibom people who also benefitted from this industry and his contribution to nation building."

Chief Executive Officer of Diamond Publications Limited, Lanre Idowu, said, "The story of Mr. Ibru’s exploits in business, particularly the media, has compelling lessons, which death cannot erase."

It seems the more cretins collaborate in writing, the dafter the output.

How did these 3 foooooooooools interpret the personal opinion of 3 individuals as the opinion of the organisation they work for?

Maybe the 3 moronteers can interpret my opinion of how stewpid they are as the opinion of Nigeria then.

Bloody quacks!

Fuel subsidy removal: Adopting better saving strategies

The removal of fuel subsidy may have scuttled whatever plans some average income earners have for saving this year. Some small scale businesspeople may also feel their expansion arrangements are threatened.

But some finance experts say saving is possible even under a critical economic situation. This, they argue, depends on individuals and the deployment of strategies.

Saving about N5m before the end of the year may seem a tall order for a middle class income earner. Online personal finance section, MSN money, says when you review your finances piece by piece, you may be surprised by how fast things add up.

The MSN money’s report presented below is a guide on how to save substantially this year, even in the face of fuel subsidy removal and its socio-economic consequences.

This year, why not make a New Year’s resolution to meet that goal?

Before you can begin to save, you need to understand what you’re really spending.

“People who don’t know where their money is going are not really able to start saving it effectively,” says Tracy East, the director of outreach with the nonprofit Consumer Education Services.

People tend to underestimate their spending, so East recommends keeping track of where your money is flowing for at least 30 days.

Last year, in the United States, for instance, the average family spent slightly more than $48,000, according to the Bureau of Labour Statistics. Of the largest categories, about one-third went to housing, 15 per cent to transportation and 12 per cent to food.

The figure will obviously be lower in Nigeria, where standard of living is not that high.

And while those major areas are great places to start evaluating, it helps to examine every aspect of your finances if you are serious about saving. The categories below are all fine areas to begin trimming your costs.

Hang up your phone

One easy place to start hunting for savings is your phone service. Leah Ingram, the author of “Suddenly Frugal, How to Live Happier and Healthier for Less,” says for years she had separate home, business and fax land lines. “It’s really unnecessary for this day and age,” she says.

She eventually switched to one land line, and eliminating the two other saved her $1,600 annually. That means that even if you have only one line to eliminate — and many people are able to do this by relying solely on a cellphone — you could still pocket $800 over the year.

East also suggests examining your television habits. If you don’t make use of most channels, look for a smaller cable package. It’s also possible to negotiate prices, particularly in markets with stiff competition. Her husband spent two hours on the phone with their cable provider and got their bill cut by $45 per month — a savings of $540 per year.

Trim your utilities

There are countless ways to save on utilities. Not everyone feels confident enough to tackle a big project like installing an energy-efficient furnace, but even small upgrades, such as installing a programmable thermostat, can promptly earn savings, says Bob Harris, the CEO of WhiteFence. According to Energy Star, a programmable thermostat can save a homeowner up to $180 on utility bills each year.

Even if your new thermostat costs $100 — and there are many available for much less than that — you can make back that investment and save $80 the first year.

KickOff Football Magazine collects bribe to promote a criminal:

Adamu cautions Eagles on WC opponents

Former Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and Fifa Executive Committee member, Amos Adamu, has warned the Super Eagles not to underrate any of their Group F rivals in next year's World Cup.

While admitting that he would like Nigeria to win next year's World Cup in Brazil, Adamu told the Daily Independent that the Super Eagles will have to consider all the teams in their group as equal threats, as they are no minnows in football anymore.

"One fundamental thing we mustn’t underestimate is that all the teams that qualified for the World Cup are potential winners," Adamu said.

"So we don’t have to start looking down on a country and feel that they are not threats to us, every team emerges from a competition, so no team in Brazil is a cheap party."

The experienced football administrator however added that given the quality of the players currently in the Super Eagles, as well as the consistency of the team's form, they only need a bit of luck to go all the way in the World Cup.

Not a single mention that this was a bribe taker. Apart from positive words, they even used a picture of him in a suit on the webpage to make him look responsible.

The cretinous person called Uche George Egbe has taken a bribe to help his alleviate his poverty.

This cretins along with Colin Udoh are helping the thief test the ground to see if he can have a place in Nigeria.

Only in Nigeria would publicly shamed criminals still have hope of revival.

As long as we have person Jonathan to pardon them, they are not wrong having hope.

I read the story on monday, the way we promote criminals in Nigeria is alarming. The same man that brought shame to Nigeria, caught on camera demanding for bribe.
And one hungry mofo goes on to publish an interview with him. Who asked for his opinion? What is his business with the Super eagles? NFF can do as they like, he's not an authority again.
I grew up knowing both Adamu and Ogunjobi as football administrators in this country, hardly is their any footie activity going on that you won't hear their names, corrupts nuggars.
But immediately they both were disgraced and went solo, we all saw the turn around and what the country has achieved in football

The country is sick.

The journalists (like Uche George Egbe and Colin Udoh) are hungry fucktards.

Ogunjobi even got a job with his state after his disgrace.

I would not be surprised if "Uche George Egbe" does not exist and Colin Udoh only used that pseudo-name to publish the shame!

INTRODUCTION

Over the years and up to date, most journalists in Nigeria have been killed, some badly brutalized and some were even sentence to some years or life imprisonment. One would wonder and may ask why all these things are happening to most journalists in Nigeria.
