In those days, big English words were impressive. Educated people of those days liked to show off their education by using those big words. This reminds me of Lakunle in Wole Soyinka's The Lion and the Jewel.

My uncle used to tell me that, whenever he received a love letter from his girl friend, he would put it under his pillow and be reading it at two hourly intervals. I also wrote letters but, with the introduction of digital communication everything has changed. I cant remember when I wrote a letter last. No wonder, there is massive failure in English language these days.

I remembered my first love letter gotten from a guy, I was 11. He was just jabbing nonsense and would always wait for me on my way coming from school.

I told my uncle that a guy won't let me rest, he knew him. My uncle went to see him and gave him serious warning. I thought I would be free but to my horror I got another letter the next day saying and I quote, "nothing will stop my love for you", I love you".

I was like... what!!!!!!!!

Seriously it was fun those letter days. grin
