In the end, I sat down and asked myself, what if THEY were right all along, what if in this grand universe to which we are an insignificant speck, there IS a God?

To the atheists like Seun, just for one instance, throw aside your unrational disbelief, because if anything is possible, think about what it would mean if there really is a being higher than what we can fathom that lives in existence?

And so I find myself here, asking if it is possible to regain my faith. I have said and seen and written so many things considered blasphemous, but now, I want to correct this flaw in my thinking.

So I ask, how do I regain my faith in God? How do I go back to believing once more?

It's takes nothing. Just a conscious decision. God is pretty easy going especially with the lost.

Now to the OP, you strike me as someone who's suffering due to the fact that people KNOW you physically as an atheist, you argue physically a lot with theists, this kinda attitude (if true) can only lead to frustration especially in an ultra religious country like Nigeria because Nigerians can go to any length to "prove" their god exists even setting you up to die, refuse you job, cut connections with you, avoid you as much as possible, refuse you help at critical times and guess what? their religion encourages this

everyone around me know I'm an atheist but I hardly argue with theists like I do online and even when I do, I make sure I argue as less as possible and switch the discussion as fast as I can to football or politics

I learnt this by thinking to myself, what would a Muslim do if Hopefullandlord and a Christian are shot and bleeding to death but the Muslim can only stop the bleeding of one? believe me the bitter answer is that the Muslim would gladly save the Christian and leave me to die

if I and a Christian are vying for just one job and the interviewer knows me to be an atheist, he would offer the job to the Christian

This has led to so many issues that I can't even begin to explain, such as the ones you've highlighted, and in the long run, it had me feeling that I had made the wrong choice, and wants me to go back to being able to exist without this knowledge.
If I am being honest with myself, I knew that the second I doubted the existence of God, it would be impossible to go back without something like retrograde amnesia completely wiping my mind and memories of everything I have seen, read and heard.
I had hoped there would be some rare cases here or someone like me who had grown tired of atheism and found a new religion, but all I have seen is people telling me to Accept Jesus, to go back and pray, to get on my knees... they do not understand how it works. They do not understand that it is psychologically impossible for me to start reconditioning my mind to believing in things that I had considered false. It is like trying to convince myself that a car is a unicorn and the color black is the rainbow...

You need to understand how it works. You first need to accept Jesus as Lord. The transformation you so desire occurs only through listening to His words. forget about amnesia

my atheism is not known by many people except those around me, even the little people that eventually know me as an atheist do so AFTER they must've known other things about me e.g that I'm a very charitable person, very kind, considerate, jovial at times, very gentle, focused, knowledgeable about many things

so basically, by the time someone knows the part of me being atheist, its too late to start hating me in any way, it is usually a thing of surprise to them that I'm an atheist because I'm an exact opposite of whom they think an atheist should be

so they usually go, "Hopefullandlord, I thought you were a Christian all these while, you behave exactly like one" I then smile and tell them "Well, being good is not restricted to Christianity, there are many other religions with stricter rules about being kind to your fellow humans than Christianity and humanism beats Christianity"

I'm only more open about my atheism when in developed countries

In Nigeria, its a recipe for disaster if the first thing someone knows about you is that you're an atheist because you would hardly have the fair hearing you deserve due to the fact that the average Nigerian regards atheists to be worse than paganists, worse than Boko Haram (never mind their denying that), worse than armed robbers, worse than rapists, worse than our corrupt politicians, worse than the worst of the worst things you can think of

this prejudice is responsible for atheism not having mainstream attention, don't be fooled by church and mosque goers, some of them are atheists doing that for survival and keeping up appearances, some of the monickers that argue here are only doing it when online and keep their atheism to themselves physically and believe me they're not stupid for doing that

now to the solution to your present predicament, you told a blabbermouth that you're an atheist and now you're now seen as a terrible person by many people who haven't even gotten to know you

coming back from being known as an atheist can be very tough because it would involve deceiving yourself and keeping up a façade

here's my advice that can help your situation in a very good way

1. Wake up one morning and tell those around you with joy that you saw an angel appear to you in a dream and revealed that Jesus is real and his messages are facts

2. tell as many people around you as you can with as much joy in your face as you could muster

3. go to a church that has the highest number of members out of those that know you to be atheist

4. during alter call, come out and "give your life to Christ"

5. on the next Sunday, come out to give testimony about your "salvation" and badmouth atheism as much as you can in that testimony, eg "I was angry with god and I became an atheist but I've now discovered atheism is full of emptiness, I was stupid for even doubting the existence of the king of kings, lord of lords, my creator; atheism is pure evil and made by the devil to drag people to hell with him"

you can check out many testimonies of atheists that converted to Christianity online and take cue from those

6. start singing gospel songs in some mornings


you'll see that news of your "conversion" would also spread like wildfire

Christians and (bizarrely) Muslims would start liking you more and would be glad to "help you" at key moments

you can even approach the church you're using to request for help in many ways and the pastors and elders would be glad to help you because with every help they offer you, they're proving to you that their God exists and that God is responsible for the help you're receiving
