Afta much analysis n research, i've come to conclude dat animation "in dis part of d world" cannot b taken lightly owing to its complex nature. If it takes over two hundred staffs to churn out an animated film over a two year span or more, from d admin dept, down to to d artists in developed countries, how long will it take in a country like ours? Also put in mind dat diz guys specialize in a particular kind of work n dats one of d reasons thr work comes out stunningly beautiful "based on logistics".
Anyways n bottom line is, over here, to succeed, u'll have to be a cross breed of d various animation arms n b very gud @ ur major.
I have dicided to begin my new phase wi a "fight animation" even tho i'ld hv prefered a dialogue. And i'm using my old models n stuff cuz thr isnt no time for now to do anythin new from scratch as dat could add another 2 to 4weeks to d project. Yeah, i'll b uploading wips in d form of still images as i progress.

Ok, here are wip images of my shot. D beginning of d fight sequence was culled from a fight between wanderlei "mad dog" silva and rampage jackson in one of their matches in Pride Fc. As usual, i made some changes in ds scene n i'm likely to choroegraph d other scenes unless i find something i like. It's dirty n more of a street fight @ first until mayb d other scenes. Yeah, dat's d objective.
So i'm on a easter break for now but wen i come back, i'll update d thread if thr's new work-done.

Since dis scene is a street fight type, dat means thr wil b contact, thr will be grapplings n draggings etc. Dis feat cannot b achieved if u dnt switch btw fk n ik modes. Or beta stil, just rig ur xter in ik n leave it @ dat. Then thr cones d problem of linking it to a part of d other xters body dat will cause it to stick to it while in ik mode n also inherit all d postitions and rotations of d part its linked to, so u dnt hv to animate d hand all d time. Stil, thr r stil little fixes to b made.
Ok, dis is d only scene i'll hv ds pair do any form of "gidigbo" grappling + i rarely hv d kind of time i used to hv for animating. Wat comes next as a close up wen i'm done wi dis is a little stand up gig say for abt 10-15secs n i'm done.
Dis is d first time i'll b animating while sitting down mostly like i'm writin or drawin a house plan. No body pains n very minimal simulations, oh... I feel like crying.

Thanx for d compliment. You can try 3dsmax website or if u no want any wahala abt payment n stuff, u can go for blender, it's free. But a more genuine advice from me will b to get maya, 3dsmax or houdini. Plus make up ur mind on wat u rlly want.
Ok, for some inexplicable reasons i've not animated anything for about 2days now. I'm lookin fwd however to break d jynx today so dat by 2moro or so dis scene gets wound up. Whr's dat my mouse?

If you are waiting on steady electricity to act ( whether you do animation, run a printing press, a large company, a barbing saloon, or a even viewing center) you will fail in naija.
Just find a solution.

dis thread is stil very mch alive even tho progress has bn hindered by certain factors.
@cgninyi thanx for ur input n to evry1 else includin lucem, thank u. Proceeding to matters arising.
The major set-back i had @ first was d absence of a brief. Or mayb i had one but ddnt stick to it. D story kept changing as i tried to tell it & diz brought abt temporary loss of focus n delay. I even had to erase some frames @ a point, say close to a hundred or so. Also grappling fights r not as easy to animate like d stand up types or shld i say "more difficult". If for any reason i'm doing dis again, it has to b paid for, straight up.
Woundin up wont b any time soon cuz i'm stil blockin out n posing bt it will come. In all d xperience has bn wonderful n below r some screen shots of my wip. One thing is for sure, i'm puttin dis in my work archive n hopefully it helps improve my studios chances of makin very gud money wen its unveiled. Say i charge like $1k-$5k per sec animaton. For a start. Not bad abi

Nice poses, which render engine do you plan on using? And will there be an enviroment in the final render or will it be on a ground plane?

@orbgoblin, thanx, i'm thinkin mental ray even tho, i'm drawn to d scanline bcuz of it's speed. For d environment, i hvnt decided on dat yet as i'm tryin to concentrate on animating @ d moment.
@thread, i've not rlly commited alot of time dis past week to d project as i've had to deal wi alot of other stuffs. Things dat i shut out just to pick up animations & now they've piled up n r coming for me like zombies.
@ dis stage, i'm close to 600 frames wi 2xters. Not bad huh! Anyways i'm stil posing n makin corrections to poses for d final frames. I was lucky i began wi "straight ahead" @first d work would hv been too mch to handle.
Well given d circumstances i would hv abandoned ship but i'm not d type dat quits dat easily so finish i must. The new week is gon be hectic as thr'll b a new project i've bn involved wi dat has to b delivered in abt 6days from now n i even hvnt seen d brief. God help us all.

Cos they are are good way to improve your animation skills. Walk and run cycles are too linear.

Yes boss. I'ld b using either d 3dsmax scanline or mental ray renderer. On environment, dat has'nt bn decided yet. Right now i'm just focused on d clip.

U actually r d 1st person i've heard dis from. Well apart from d excellent answer given previously, animators like to take up challenges n show off their stuffs. It kinda shows class n levels "silently". For instance lets say i'm dwelling on walk cycles n makin noise about it and i come accross someone elses job handling heavy activity like a fight, dialogue or dance etc, dude dat ends my bravado. But then alot of other artists do advanced scenes bcuz they can rather than wantin to prove it. And as for me, that's naturally whr i'm heading. The "all new big screen" with exciting stuffs just like hollywood. So fight scenes, abija shooting lazer beams n creating vortexes is a must. People doing fight scenes and gettin it right here r trying to re-introduce nollywood. That's me tho.

Yyyyyeaaaah, d thread is still alive & we r still on d ground grapling. Its bn a busy last week for me n will b another busy one for some time to come. But whichever way it goes, d fight scene must pass. Before today i've come up with different poses to end or @least take d fight off d ground. But d problem is d steps appear too jumpy n not following any logical simulation sequence. But wi dat "hot slap" landing on ones head, then u've gotta think twice about letting go of any hold n defending urself. So there comes d opening i've bn lookin for to wrap things up.
Dont worry about d fingers, heels n legs @ dis time cuz they r all in blocks. My pace will become even slower, but i'll finish dis up cuz "i hate abandoned projects". And if it was a stand up, i'ld have wrapped up about a week ago. Now how many grapling animes hv u seen so far? Yeah, dats right cuz they r hard mhen. As usual. below r images showing my progess n yeah, i aint seen nepa for over a week.

Still following, waiting for a final render though. I did a fight animation on blender some years back, it was one of the most frustrating things ever. That was on blender 2.4 though. Would be nice if you could make it like a bar fight and use particle systems to create about 10 fighters. Brawling at the same time but with different actions.

@orb, dis 1's more like an arena/dojo kinda fight. Would hv gone far wi it but i've bn too busy. But like i said, it will pass. This weekend tho, i'm pinching out some time for it lets c hw far i can go. But overall n so far, it's bn quite an xperience n very troublesome. Wen i finish posin n maybe 60% tweening, i'll post an unrendered shot. Thanks for following.

Ok, so i'm stil not done wi dz even tho i've recorded some incredible progress so far wi d little time i have. Stil on tweening, d feet r almost done, the fingers- no. Facial expressions i might leave out as they r not d focus of diz short. D fight is short n about to end but there isnt alot of time in my hands @ d moment but as always, i'll find time to inch progress up whenever i can.
I've gat a project in d pipeline dats begining to find it's rythm n very much needs my attention. So that's where most of my time will be going to. But not to worry, an hour or two a day can still yield somethin, afterall i'm a worker-hollic.
As usual, here r some screenshorts n i hope to post an unrendered animated wip within d week. Thanks for following n stay wi me.
Yeah, i didnt know dat d android os is now on 7.0 nougart. Ol boy, i've got alot of catching up to do.

Happy Sunday y'all and boy have I got something to tell u. I haven't finished d fight scene up till now & ain't done no work on it since d last time I updated dis thread. That's it, that's what I have to tell ya. However, I managed to get d 60% tweening I talked about d last time which means I will be uploading a WIP shot say today or tomorrow. This development leaves out d legs and hands and overall facials. I think i'll skip facials. Still on a very tight schedule & won't b working on it for say d nxt one month or so. But eventually, wen I'm done, u'll know.

Ok eeerm, I'm here. I did try uploading a WIP as promised but for one or two reasons, it didn't pull through, owing to d internet. Now, I'm a bit free like I used to but I've been using most of dat spare time to improve myself.
I've been seeing alot of animations and woooooow, we really do have a lot of work to do in this part of the world, especially here. Anyways asides watching films, I've also been cleaning up my rigging techniques. I used to b scared of rigging a xter bcuz of d many scripting dat u'll employ before getting it to work. And for a greenhorn like me, that just sucks because I want to know y u do what and what happens if I don't do that. What if I do this. Yeah, dats me. I ask questions alot. Anyways even if I'd read why 3dsmax were taking d wrist-twist bones through a quaternion n euler transforms, to just make it rotate automatically as desired thereby shutting out the possibility of gimbal locks, I still had no idea what they were talking about. Yeah, I just said a whole load of crap there didn't I? Lol, ok dat was how I used to feel back then. But it didn't stop me from rigging with d custom bones as all I needed to do was just follow d tutorials and enter my script the same way they entered theirs which still worked then. Now it's a different story n i'm itching to go back to custom bones rigging.
Now, the reason I use d CAT is to improve my animations from where I started to where I am now. Also if u don't like rigging very much, d CAT should b your best friend. No calculations or scripting, just click on your mouse and draw out the bones to match d mesh. The difference between d CAT and custom bone rig is like 50% in terms of efficiency favouring the custom bone rig. The CAT is d perfect teacher/partner for those itching to learn how to animate from scratch. No I think a 100 would b more appropriate.
In d future I'll still use d CAT but they won't b on my main xters. Mayb less supporting/crowd especially when d spine won't be doing any major activity.
I will gradually slip into animating again. Right now I'm done with body movements n working more on facial animations. Once dat is in d bag, I'll begin another journey. But for d fight animation, I really have animated to d last image posted but for some reasons, I've not been able to post it. Don't know what's wrong with me.
