hmmm.! I said I was going to come back to read after the story is completed but the first update I read kept banging in my head..so I started from the bottom now am here. I must say its a very nice story with excellent choice of words

“Baby girl,I assure you that I’ll attend the wedding. I can’t come down from Jigawa for the introduction.” I had been trying to make Mille understand why I couldn’t make it for her introduction ceremony. We’d been on the call for some minutes.
“Gloria,you and I both know that’s not the reason.” She replied.
“And what’s that?” I decided to act innocent.
“You don’t want to see my brother after what happened.”
“It’s not that Mille.”
“It is.He has probably forgotten about it and you should do same.”
“Probably? I made a fool out of myself Mille. I just wanted to be with him so bad till I stopped using my brain.”
“It’s all past and gone. Jason is with someone else.”
“Really?” My voice did nothing to hide my disappointment
Mille laughed “I really don’t know dear. I just wanted to know how you would react.”
“Why don’t you ask him?” I felt stupid immediately the question came out from my mouth.
“He’s my twin,yeah but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t give him space. He’s a grown man now.”
“Yeah I understand.”
“I gotta go now Gloria. They just announced our flight.” She said.
“Wish you safe journey dear. Warmest regards to my brother.”
“He’ll hear dear.” She hung up. I slumped on my bed as she ended the call wondering how I would redeem my dignity. I had always been against forced relationships but I don’t still understand how I almost succeeded in forcing Jason into one.
“Gloria,you’re a bloody fool.” I told myself. I was debating inwardly on whether to call Jason or not. I settled for the former. The phone kept ringing and I thought he wouldn’t pick when I heard his unmistakable voice.
“Gloria tell me I’m dreaming.” He said immediately he picked the call.
“Uhm,yes…I mean no.” All the words I had rehearsed got stuck in my throat.
“Hello. Gloria are you hearing me?” I hung up and switched off the phone. Why was I busy displaying the fool in me? Everyone’s lives seemed to have direction except mine. I would call Uncle Don later and talk to him. He always had the right words for me each time I had a problem.

“I’ll be back home soon mum.I’m not running to anywhere.”
“You better be back, if not, you won’t be able to tell the story of what I am going to do to you.”
“Yes madam. My ears are hurting from your screaming already mum.”
“Let it…” I hung up. Jathniel asked me to pick him up without telling mum. He wanted it to be a surprise for her. As I stood at the airport waiting for them,I regretted agreeing to surprising her. She had called more than a thousand times warning me not to leave Uyo. I had become so horrible till she thought I would grab the slightest opportunity to run away from Jane. It really made me feel bad but it was my fault she didn’t trust me at all.
I put my phone on silent mode and slipped it into my pocket,patiently waiting for Jathniel to appear and he did.
“Hey bro.”I walked up to him.
“Thanks for coming to pick us Elliot.”
“Us?” I was confused.
“Hey Niel,did you carry the other bag?”Mille came out as he was about to answer.
“Yeah I did.” He answered.
“Whoa ! Jathniel never said he was coming back with you. Welcome dear.”
“Oh Elliot,thanks.”
“I would have hugged you but Mr. fiancé here will murder me tonight if I dare.” Mille and I had a good laugh as we all strolled to the car. Jathniel pretended not to hear whatever we were talking about. Mille rushed to the front seat immediately we got to the car. Jathniel just looked at her and smiled causing tears to almost drop from my eyes as I remembered Tasha. Mille and I talked while Jathniel was busy yelling at someone over the phone.
“You should take it easy next time hon. You know I hate this your yelling.” Mille chided.
“Sorry.” He mumbled.
“And you,Elliot slow down. We’ll soon get to the junction.”
“Yes ma’am.”
“How is Jane?”
“She’s at home with mum. I hope you’ll create time to see her.”
“Sure I will. Maybe tomorrow after I visit Tristan.”
“We’ll go together to the hospital tomorrow. I didn’t know that Eric Is the same one that works for me.I just got informed now.”Jathniel spoke up.
“Seriously?”
“Why do girls always say ‘seriously?’ “ I asked.
“Because they are girls.” Jathniel laughed and replied.
“I’m not a girl.” She whined.
“Oh yeah,you’re my girlfriend. I’ve added ‘friend’ for you.” Jathniel said and burst out laughing and I followed suit.
“Thank God,we’ve gotten here.” She said and crossed her arms in mock annoyance.
I blared my horn,the gateman peeped.
“It’s me.” Mille told him through her wound down window. He quickly rushed back in to open the gate for me to drive in. We alighted the vehicle. Jathniel carried Mille’s bag. Aunt Liz must have heard the car horn because she came out.
“Mille is that you?”
“Live and direct mum.” Mille ran into her waiting arms and I couldn’t help the smile that broke out on my lips as I watched them.
“Good evening ma.” Jathniel and I chorused.
“Good evening my children. Sorry,I don’t know who is who.” She replied.
“Mum,I’ve told you it’s easy. This is Jathniel.” She placed her hand on his shoulder.
“Ah I see. Let’s go inside.”
“No ma. We can’t stay today. We have to hurry home.” I replied quickly before Jathniel could accept the invitation. I gave him the eye and he cooperated with me.
“Yes ma,we need to get going.”
“Alright dear. My regards to your mum and little Jane.” She collected Mille’s bag and told her “Escort him jor and stop doing innocent here.”
Mille smiled shyly as she walked us to the car and Aunt Liz went inside.
“Bye love,I’ll see you tomorrow okay?”
“Yeah, what time?”
“I’ll call you before I come over”
“Can you just get in the car already?” I asked. I needed to get back home quickly before mum would send the Police after me. Jathniel entered the car after they said their “I love you’s.”
“Now can you tell me why you rushed to get outta there?” Jathniel asked as I drove.
“Because if I stayed one more minute with Mille,I would fall in love with her.”
“What?!” He exclaimed loudly and I felt one of my ears block.
“Relax bro. I left hurriedly because of mum.”
“Elliot mind your jokes. What about mum? Is she okay?”
“Yeah,she thinks I’m gonna run away so she’s been killing me with calls.”
He laughed. “Serves you right bro.”
“It’s actually not funny.”
“I’ll only help you persuade her into believing you’re not running anywhere on one condition.”
“And what condition is that? Please don’t ask me to be your driver on your wedding day.”
He smiled. “I won’t,if I do that you may kill me with your horrible driving.”
“Jathniel,I’m still waiting for your condition.”
“Oh,it’s quite simple. Tell me who you’re running from.”
His words hit me harder than a hot slap across the face.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked.
“Stop acting dumb. It’s obvious someone is after you. I sensed it since you had that gunshot.”
“You could do me a favour and shut up Jathniel.”
He chuckled. “Elliot,you can deny it all you want. I’m very close to finding out.”
“There’s nothing to find out.” I tried to remain as calm as possible.
“Alright then. I hope so. I don’t want to quarrel with you today but be rest assured that nothing is hidden under the sun.”
“Whatever.”
“Gosh I’ll soon see Jane. I can’t wait to have an adorable daughter like her.”
“She’s truly adorable.” I tried to flow with him.
“Which is why you should spend more time with her.” He brought out his phone from his pocket and began typing away while I thought about my life all the way home. I was expecting mum to do something funny when I got home but what I saw at the gate was beyond funny. Mum was standing right outside the gate with both hands on her waist when we ot home.
Jathniel laughed till tears started coming out of his eyes. I drove in like she was invisible.
“Where are you coming from ehn?” She started as soon as my feet touched the ground.
“Mum what were you doing outside?” I didn’t care to hide the annoyance in my voice.
“You haven’t answered me Elliot.”
“Hey mum take it easy. I asked him to pick Mille and I from the airport.”
“Jathniel! Oh my God!” She directed her attention to him.
“Perfect opportunity.” I slipped inside the house. I saw Jane sleeping on the sofa with the television on.
“So she left her here to police me.” I thought. I wanted to pass but I decided to carry her to my room even though I knew she usually slept with mum. As I placed her on the bed,she began crying.
“Damn it.” I cussed. I had no idea on how to make a child stop crying. “Maybe google can help.” Before I reached the phone,she was wide awake.
“Daddy?”
“Mmm. Go to bed Jane.” She twisted her lips and I knew she would start round two if I didn’t do something quick. I resorted to laying on the bed with her. She snuggled up to me,placing her head on my chest and her arms wrapped around me. I sang her a lullaby mum always sang for me to sleep when I was a child and it worked. She began snoring lightly after a while. I heard the door open and close but I couldn’t turn to see who it was,fearing she would wake up and start crying again.
When I thought she had slept deeply,I attempted moving but she tightened her grip on me. Surprisingly, staying with her seemed to make me forget my worries temporarily. We slept together for the first time and I promised myself that it wouldn’t be the last time. I followed her into the land of dreams after a while. It had been a while since I slept so soundly. I dreamt of Tasha and I having a wonderful time together with Jane. We were playing in the dream when she poured water on me. My clothes were soaked. I thought it was a dream but the cold feeling persisted and I woke up. Alas! Jane had emptied her bladder on me.

its not funny o but na d joy of being close and sleeping beside her father for the first time so elliot should understand. maybe next time she go wear pampers.

“This child has finished me.” I said to myself. I checked the time,it was just some minutes after two a.m. I adjusted her well on the bed,blocking the edges of the bed with pillows. I went to mum’s room and knocked . I knew she would hear,the woman was quite sensitive even in sleep. She opened the door.
“What are you doing up by this time?”
“Sorry to disturb mum but Jane urinated.”
“Oh my! I should have come to make her pee. Let me get another set of clothes for her. I’ll be there soon.” She went in while I went to my room. She came some minutes later. She carefully carried her and changed her clothes. I removed the bedsheet.
“Don’t worry about it. Just change up while I take her to Gloria’s room,you’ll stay with her there.
“Mum I hope she won’t do this again.”
“She won’t.” She carried her out of the room and I changed up. I picked up my laptop and followed them to Gloria’s room. I knew it would take me some time to fall asleep again. She was still sleeping soundly. I joined her on the bed. Mum left the room to go and tidy up my bed. I turned on my laptop to see some movies to help me sleep off. I just clicked on the first movie that caught my eye on the screen and it turned out to be the mistake of the night. I didn’t reduce the volume so the movie started with a loud noise.
I hurriedly reduced it but the damage had been done already. Jane’s eyes were already wide open.
“Daddy!” She cried and I knew I was done for. I slammed the laptop shut and she cried louder.
“It’s okay Jane.” I carried her on my laps but she was still crying. Mum came into the room.
“What have you done now Elliot?”
“It was a mistake mum.”
She attempted taking Jane from me but the little girl would have none of it. She clung to me.
“Stand up and rock her.” Mum ordered and I obeyed. It worked and mum stepped out of the room again.
I stood for a while rocking her. I even paced around the room too. I never thought being a father would be so stressful. Mum came back to meet me standing.
“So she hasn’t gone back to sleep.” She said.
“She hasn’t.” I sat down with her.
“I want Golden Morn.” She said quietly.
“I’ll go make it for you dear.” Mum said. We left the room for the kitchen together. Mum made the food while I sat on a stool with her.
“Let’s eat.” Mum made to carry her again but she refused. She tried feeding her but she rejected the food. She tried all she could to no avail.
“Try feeding her Elliot.”
“I don’t know a thing about feeding babies.”
“Maybe if you had spent more time with her,you would have known a thing or two about feeding a child. Just try so she doesn’t start crying.” I reluctantly took the spoon and plate. I scooped the food to give her when mum said “That’s too much for her na.”
I reduced the quantity and brought the food to her lips. She took it. I tried again and she collected it. With instructions from mum,I fed her the whole plate of food successfully.She had barely finished eating when she started dozing. I carried her properly for her to sleep well as mum washed her plate. I walked slowly to the room and laid her on the bed.
“Goodnight mum.” I said to mum.
“Goodnight son. You’ve made me happy this night.” She shut the door.
I landed on the bed and slept off immediately. I was exhausted beyond measure.
When I woke up the next morning, she was scattering Gloria’s things all over the room.
“Jane,this is such a wonderful sight.”
“Daddy!” She climbed the bed and jumped on my back.
“Lord,don’t let this child kill me.” I prayed silently. “Alright miss,come down.”
She obeyed immediately,surprising me. I was expecting her to put up some resistance. I got up from the bed and she followed me out of Gloria’s room to mine.
“Wait here,daddy wants to brush.” I instructed her.
“Daddy brush me.” She pulled me and I followed her to mum’s bathroom. She pointed at a really tiny toothbrush. I sighed as I picked it up and went back to my room with her.
I was faced with the drama of brushing her teeth. I put her on a small stool for her to reach the wash basin. She kept on playing with the toothpaste,swallowing some. After lots of water pouring and laughter,I managed to do a quick brushing for her. I knew I did a very substandard job but I was past caring. I dropped her in the room to brush my teeth and clean up the mess in the bathroom.
By the time I got back,Jane had destroyed my room for me. I just swept her up in my arms and went to the living room. I turned on the television for her when I remembered that it was a school day. I rushed to the kitchen. I met mum and Jathniel.
“How’s the father doing?” He teased.
“I have suffered,believe me. Mum isn’t she going to school?”
“It’s a public holiday dad.” Mum and Niel kept on laughing at me.
“Mum,Jane is definitely staying with you tonight. I can’t stand the stress please.”
“I hope she agrees.” Mum smiled.
“Congrats bro. You’re finally living the life of a father.” Jathniel said as he sipped tea from a mug.
“It sucks man. My room and Gloria’s are a mess.”I helped myself onto a kitchen stool. As I sat down,Jane yelled “Daddy!” from the living room.
“Kuku kill me o pikin.” I groaned. Mum and Jathniel laughed the more.
