Tnx. Am an igbo Christian woman but this are almost the same thing one sees in the village shrine. Are they (igbo and yoruba gods) same gods?
I see that no one else has bothered to answer your question: the answer is, yes, the Yoruba "Orisha" belief system is the same as the "Olise/Orise/Oritse/Olisa" of the Edos and the Igbos, and they all derive from the same shared ancestral roots, just as "Ifa", "Iha" and "Afa" divination systems all date back to a time before Edo, Igbo and Yoruba became different languages.

Yes when it is fully consecrated and No when it is not consecrated. A quack or an amateur or a fake babalawo will give you a non-consecrated Opon Ifá which can only be used for entertainment / educational purpose but a renowned babalawo will never give you non-consecrated Opon Ifá because of the risk that goes with it. Because African Tradition Religion is very spiritual.

An Opon Ifá is a divination tray used in Ifá divination and other purposes.

We use the Opon Ifá whenever we want to communicate with the spirits who are able to identify the causes and solutions to personal and collective problems and restore harmony with the spirits.

Opon Ifás are flat and usually circular, between about 6 and 18 inches in diameter, with a raised outer edge carved with figures, objects or geometric designs.

Opon Ifás may also be rectangular, semi-circular or an approximate square.

The top of the tray is called the head, and the bottom, the foot - the latter is typically placed closest to the diviner.

At the head is generally carved with a representation of Esu, the messenger of Ifá and the other spirits.

Certain trays may have additional representations of Esu and trays with two, four, eight and even sixteen faces have been seen.

I attached the photograph of Opon Ifá to my comment.

Àború Aboye, Ogbó Ató, Àsúre Ìwòrì Wòfún

Lately, I have not been posting frequently this is as a result of my wok as an IFA Priest.

Today I will be teaching you the fundamentals of Powerful Ebos (Sacrifices) in African Tradition Religion using the Ebos (Sacrifices) that were performed at the back of my shrine at Ogheghe Phase 1, Edo State, Nigeria.

PURPOSE OF EBOS (SACRIFICES)

(1) Long life

(2) Prosperity

(3) Protection

(4) Wealth

(5) Riches

(6) Success

EBOS (SACRIFICES) BENEFACTORS

Ogun Priest and his family

EBOS (SACRIFICES) TEACHING

These elaborate Ebos (Sacrifices) were prepared by me "Babalawo Orisa", Babalawo Edos, Babalawo Igie for an Ogun Priest and my Omo Awo was present to learn the fundamentals of Ebos (Sacrifices).

We used animals head to touch our head, chests, private parts and buttocks with special prayers.

Then, the head of each animals (goat, hen, tortoise) where cut off, the blood of these animals where poured on the divinities, charms, spiritual bathing water to empower them and these ebos (sacrifices) where offered as a sacrifice to Orunmila, Ogun, Esu and Mother Earth.

The body of these animals where cooked and where used to prepared a delicious egusi soup with pounded yam which we ate glady and prayed for the Ebo Benefactors "Ogun Priest And Family".

EBOS (SACRIFICES) DIVINATION

Several Odus appeared during the Ebos (Sacrifices) and the Odus that came out where Ejiogbe, Oyeku, Ogunda Meji, Okonron and Ika.

I divine Ogunda Meji for the Ogun Priest, Babalawo Igie divine Ejiogbe, Oyeku and Okonron for the Ogun Priest and Babalawo Edos divine Ika for the Ogun Priest and we also divine for ourselves and for non-initiates present during these elaborate elaborate Ebos (Sacrifices) using four mouth kola, 16 cowries and okpele.

ORISAS FOR THESE EBOS (SACRIFICES)

(1) Orunmila

(2) Ogun

(3) Esu

(4) Mother Earth

EBO LIST

1) One she goat

(2) One hen

(3) 16 Kola nuts

(9) Alligator peppers

(10) Dry gin

(11) Iyerosun

(12) Fresh medicinal leaves

The African Traditional Religion, the religion of our African ancestors before the infiltration. I am not a worshipper but I respect the religion much more than those that the colonialists handed over to Africans which has made Africans so gullible, ignorant and over zealous thereby causing political and economic disorder+disaffection.

May the legacy of our ancestors forever be remembered

Guy, I knew much about it. In fact I lived with a confirmed Babalawo which I even always follow him and his mates to wherever they want to go and perform rituals. I'm a native of Ijebuland and I have passed through different ways of all this ritual stuff before I later discovered that its a wrong way.

Who are the "True Gods". There's a GOD not Gods, OK?

So says the white man who forced the black man to abandon their gods, with the aid of guns on one hand and bible wielding missionaries on the other, to believe that somehow a middle eastern Jesus died for their sins. Alas, generations later, the descendants of the Black man cannot contemplate the existence of his ancestors' gods.

How ironic.

By the way, all talk of gods or God are balderdash. The only gods/God are the human beings who created them.

I am not offended but will says the truth no matter how bitter it is and how are you sure you are not offending other tribes who believed in IFA and other African religion and why do you think it's only Yoruba that practice African religion. I believe it's not every Babalawo or traditionalist that are evil, same as other religion. Stop generalizing every traditionalist, there are many that attends church n mosque that are so evil, they eat n dine with the devil even pastors n Alfas. I am a Babalawo and am not evil, I fear God n respect him so much.

Foreign religion were brought to us with bible in one hand and gun in the other hand, the did has been done. African religion and tradition is not progressing simply because of our slavery mentality, we Africans prefer any foreign things to our own but mind you, we will all come back to our root when the time comes, our eyes shall be cleared, we shall regain our senses.

The best thing that we Africans can do in this modern age is to study these things which our fathers believed in and derive special or perhaps scientific theories from them all, since our fore fathers were not educated enough to research on them, today people are educated enough to find a truly analytical approach to the study of these things for the future of Africa.
We cannot have everything foreign. China, India, Japan, America, Korea all have developed their technology themselves based on their believes.
