But , yes , I also agree that govt spend too much on senators and co, and they should cut their spending.

But if we did that, where would we spend the extra cash? Just on universities? And it might not be enough.....we need trillions of naira annually to fund universities in Nigeria. Our senators are greedy, but their budget does not even reach up to 1 trillion naira

I know perfectly well the government doesn't have enough financial resources to fulfill all the demands of ASUU. But the education sector is grossly under-funded; the government is under-performing.

They don't care about the masses.

In 2009, ASUU signed an agreement guaranteeing 3 trillion naira in extra funding for the next 2 years.

By 2013, the money was not paid. ASUU went on strike, govt then told them after much delay that they could afford 1 trillion naira....over 5 years.

ASUU , under pressure from ordinary Nigerians took the deal.

Since then , only 200 bn of that money has been paid.

Consider also that all the good universities abroad have budgets in excess of $100million and above. Nigerian universities manage at most $10 million, of they are lucky.

Also, it costs 600000 naira to train one university student in one year.

Finally, by my own estimates, Nigerian universities need 10 trillion naira yearly. Our budget is 8 trillion. Even at 26 % of budget for education, that won't be enough.

You see why fees have to go up ? Even if times were good?

please how do they arrive at #600000 to train one university student in a year coz I don't know what they offer a student in a fed/state university that could cost such amount in a year, is it accommodation or free feeding?

And the able vice chancellor (prof. SETH ACCRA JAJA) of Federal University Otuoke reduced our sch fees by 9%...a man dat have the welfare of the students at heart...

ANSU has been paying 139,000 since 2014....so?

Unilag fees was 14500 for returning students nd it was 63500 for freshers...Fees fir science nd language students was hiked to 19500.. Vanguard did nt do Proper investigation

When some of them had so much fund, they loot it ALONE with reckless abandon. They award to their cronies building contracts of structures that will not stand the test of time(just like Oshodin did in UNIBEN). When there is no money, they pounce on poor masses to cover their spendthrift.

1. Above figure was given in an article I read in 2014. ASUU Fg agreement of 2009 put it at 300000 naira.

2. As for hostels, where did you get your figure from?.
Anyway, most of the money universities earn go on worker salaries. Of course, corruption is there too

1. Why I asked was because I wanted to know what our universities are buying or spending on per student that's placing it at an estimate of 600000. Are the halls rented or is it the markers they use? I wish to know what it is they spend on because as far as I'm concerned they are all frauds.

2. I attended UNN and back then the two campuses combined had almost 20 hostels, including male female and postgraduates. An hostel can accommodate about 800- 1000 students. Hostel fee back then about 7 years ago was 10k. Do the maths and see how much they are generating, still the place is looking messed up. Where are these money going to?
