@NiyiOmoIyunade Thanks for your advice on earthing and usr of SPD. Please another clarification. Do you connect the frame of the solar panel to your common ground (earthing in the house) or to the thunder arrester? |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by NiyiOmoIyunade(m): 1:16pm On Jul 07, 2020 |
All equipment/devices to be 'earthed' should individually have a direct path to the ground rods. In my case I use 3 to 4 earth rods at least 5meters apart all linked together via minimum 16mm continuous cable (no cuts, only peel off the insulation) at the point of bonding to the earth rods. The free end of the cable goes into the house to a copper bus bar. The solar panel frame, SPD earth, inverter earth, charge controller earth, earth for the DBs all go to the free ports/holes/slots on the copper earth/bus bar. The lightning protection system (colloquially called 'thunder arrestor') should go uninterrupted from roof to a earth rod in the ground and then that earth rod should be bonded to the other earth rods on the property. If you want to improve the above take the solar panel frame directly to the ground as well - the principle is anything exposed to the elements or a direct hit from lightning should go straight to the ground/earth rod. This link is a dedicated copper tape or cable straight from exposed item to the ground rod - don't break the link or join anything else to it. mank1234: 6 Likes 1 Share |

olaolu11: I am thinking this should work since the panles will be charging the battery concurrently as u r using the freezer? I supposed it won't be drawing at all from the power bank or if at all, just small power from the power bank Please, help provide more understanding on this |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by mahkanjuh: 3:33pm On Jul 07, 2020 |
spartacus11: I chatted with the ceepro guy, and he told me the 300litre Haier Thermocool is energy saving(Inverter) freezer, coz I told him my freezer is 110w (198L) and he adviced that one use the 1000w for a freezer that is not inverter type of which he said he doesn't have the stock presently |

mahkanjuh: Thanks for the update, probably one just need to be patient after all this travel restrictions. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ceaser: 4:19pm On Jul 07, 2020 |
mahkanjuh: The surge current is the major difference in the two scenarios. Your 110w (198L) 40% energy saving Thermocool I suppose, is truly energy saving compared to the previous regular freezers of yore. But the reason you can't use it with the 600 watts inverter is that it has a momentary start surge which may be as high as 1.2kva. In case of the inverter freezer, it slowly ramps up the speed of the compressor to a set point (like when you slowly accelerates a car to your desired speed). So the surge current is absent. After a while of working, the consumption also drops as the desired temperature is attained (similar to the way your car fuel consumption somewhat reduces when you maintain a constant speed on an expressway). 1 Like |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ceaser: 5:53pm On Jul 07, 2020 |
adrusa: Neither has coms of any sort. However Version 119 of MakeSkyBlue has WiFi hardware so that you can connect your phone to it. I doubt it has remote monitoring capabilities, so you have to be within the WiFi range to use the phone app. I even doubt if the app is available in the play store. It seems you have to do a side instal from a mediafire link. 1 Like |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by NiyiOmoIyunade(m): 6:18pm On Jul 07, 2020 |
I echo @Caesar here. Those indian type inverters are more like basic UPS with a half decent charger built in. Their surge handling capability is zero to none. Whether a 900Va inverter can carry a 135w compressor load will depend on the surge capability of the inverter and the surge characteristics of the load. We know that the specific inverter has poor surge handling at best so a normal fridge would trip the overload alarm when the compressor picks up - it may work sometimes in mains/bypass mode or after a few false starts but overall not be stable. If you had a fridge with an inverter type compressor then it may work because that would ramp up the power gradually with no surge start so the inverter would not feel it much. olaolu11: ceaser: 1 Like 1 Share |
