I see I'm mentioned here, do you have a good earth, and thunder arrestor installed in the location?
I'm not too sure... with good Earthing, is there any need for spd? and if there's need for spd... where will be the best place to install it - I'm thinking the spd will be for just the panel and charge controller.

PowMr no get version releases bro. grin
They just dey produce dey go. I fear if they decide to go the version way, it'll be a way to increase the price whereas all those version thingy na just a sweet-mouthing method to increase price.

MakeSkyBlue used to have fair prices like powMr with their version 113, but as soon as they begun their version 117 and 118 WiFi wàhálà their prices doubled that of PowMr.

Funny enough the two manufacturers are always at each other's neck one branding the other as making inferior imitation.

I own the two types - one 60A MakeSkyBlue and two PowMr. They are same form factor but with slight variations in info display and recently the inclusion of WiFi capability in the version 118 of MakeSkyBlue. Also when MakeSkyBlue reaches float, the screen blue light brightens up and the displayed info repeatedly alternates between battery voltage - Panel voltage - Temperature - load power. PowMr does not do that.

Performance of the two is at par in my opinion. On price, I don fashi MakeSkyBlue tey tey.

In fact, two weeks ago, I placed an order for another two units of PowMr 60A in prep for 48v upgrade. Now 32k including standard shipping due to covid19-dollar synergism (used to be 25k). I paid around 7k more for expedited delivery via DHL as standard shipping has been negatively impacted with Corona problem. MakeSkyBlue tops at 70k each.

PowMr 60A is available on Jiji and Jumia for around 45k.

Using an offline, third party shipper may reduce your price significantly.

I am currently trying to negotiate for a 1.5kw (3kw surge) pure sine wave inverter with charger for around $105 from an AE seller but offline.. Their shipping is about $60 but I have a shipper that may be able to land it for not more than $20-$30 max....available inverters in Nigeria for same capacity is from 70k and above.

My only fear now is reliability...i dont intend to abuse or over load it so i am hoping it should serve me for a while before it packs up.

That third party thingy is still somehow to me sha. I don't know how effective it is especially with the terrible reviews I heard of "shoptomydoor" which one would expect to be a model to assess the viability of third party shippers. In fact I was already registered on their website but I had to begun to divert their mails from my inbox to trash.

@trippledots, is your shipper on nairaland?
Lstar had fair rates of 7usd per kg b4, now he charges 10 to 15usd per kg, so its no longer attractive.

Whats your shippers rate

@Ceased, Earthrealm & Any other person interested in Inverter fridge and freezer...

I have been doing my search for some time and came across a seller with LG brand of Inverter fridge and freezers.

As noticed LG inverter freezer are not common at the moment so any body in search for inverter type fridge can visit the store in Lagos as his prices are attractive, from 155k to 170k for double door linear inverter fridge and 198k to 280k for inverter freezer

Here are some of the pictures received from the seller:

Yes, there's need for SPD with good earth. The two work together. SPD is voltage sensitive. Its resistance reduced sharply as voltage increase. You can imagine SPD as a gate and surge as flood. Under normal situation, the gate is shut but when seeing surge voltage coming, the gate quickly open so the surge can be diverted away from the equipment to the ground. It will automatically reset to high impedance status after the surge ends.

Ordinarily the resistance of the four major components (spark gap, Metal Oxide Varistor- MOV, Gas Discharge Tube- GDT and Transient Surge Suppressor-TVS) are so high under normal voltage but this resistance drops to zero or near zero to allow the surge current flow to the ground.

This YouTube video animation from ABB shows you the end of life behaviour of an MOV SPD behaviour in an AC circuit. The visuals depicts that the surge current flow path is through the earth (follow the flowing yellow line)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfXoOfipO08

Remember we have SPD for DC and AC. All are there to protect the equipment from surge current.

I doubt any reasonable landlord will be against anyone putting up earth especially if the house lacks one. Even if the place is cemented, all you need do is dig and cement it back. It's usually unobstructive as everything is down in the earth. If done professionally, landlord may not even notice, except for that "mystery" yellow wire or flat copper bar that goes in the ground grin

Thanks bro. I didn't know we have people who deal in LG inverter chest freezers in this country o. I hope they'd be the linear inverter brands of LG.

As for the Haier Thermocool inverter freezer, I'd already deposited half the money for the distributor who will get full payment after delivery which is supposed to this Saturday.

319L for 165k. Nameplate 110 watts. Of course I expect this consumption to be half most time since it'll be running 24/7.
Meanwhile the 40% power saving Haier 203L brand (non inverter freezer) that I currently have spots a 114 watts consumption nameplate and always stays btw 110w to 116w 24/7.

It appears Haier does not have inverter fridges in their line up. Since I already have the contact of the LG guy, a new refridgerator acquisition will be an LG brand - the linear inverter brand.

Thanks alot! I appreciate your time in replying... the only problem I have is the right place to install the Spd - will just one DC surge be enough (panel to CC) or should I include Ac Surge ( output of inverter and another one for input to inverter, making it 3 SPD on the system).

I will be Earthing the house on my own, as niyi explanation is clear enough.

Thanks, however i am not in lagos. Wish you included model numbers, so one can compare prices as i believe prices of LG products should be same across the major LG showrooms nationwide,..

After my last fiasco with a normal LG freezer, i decided not to go near LG freezer again,
Only Lg and Samsung appear to hv inverter fridge to the best of my knowledge. No real life reviews from samsung users, so am forced to consider Lg again

So sorry about your previous experience with LG brand of refrigerator wink

But if you decide to give it a go you can contact him. Trust me his price is very good compare to prices in other store even fuani... He does payment on delivery within Lagos and payment before delivery outside Lagos.

Be sure to discuss warranty policy with him even though warranty in Nigeria is unpredictable, just fulfill all righteousness.

You can check with him on watts app to get the models and pictures

1-You need DC btw panel and inverter
2-You need AC btw utility and inverter
3-You don't need btw inverter and house except if distance from 2 above to your equipment is more than 10m and if it's more than that you need a finer type like socket type.

Edit: the distance above is length of wiring.

There are some funny happenings as I type in our renewable energy market. We've some set of people trying so hard to limit production and sales of smf inverter batteries "detailed reason yet to be unravelled" , partly reason we see incessant hike in price and flooded spec dominating the Nigerian market !
If you need to procure whatever item, simply do as the creeping inflation isn't helping matters . Good day all !

No wonder my friend was persuaded by a popular and reputable company to buy flooded, because they told him SMF was difficult to get now.Surprisingly enough this company itself is foreign, produces these ba3 and ship to their representative to sell in Nigeria.
Na waooooo,me I never get bucks for Lithium iron phosphate now oooooo,my SMF ba3 are 4years plus and still firing like kilode..

Yes it takes care of both. But you need to know that there's also the possibility that it may fail due to a lot of reasons.
-improper installation
-end of life without you noticing it
-direct hit (the type village people may send to you)

Note that voltage surge is not same as over voltage. It won't protect you against over voltage.

Thanks to the combined efforts of Simydan (Procurement) and Oshomo12 (Installation), I was able to have my modest setup of:
1050W Canadian Poly panels (3 X 350W) in series at 48K each from @okaniudemba
48V 1.5KW Hybrid inverter with an inbuilt MPPT charger of 60A from Alibaba. ( Low Frequency)
48V 50AH LifePO4 battery with a 7-year warranty from Alibaba.

Pic 1: is showing the neat setup by Oshomo, he pays attention to details, and if he tells you he will be in your place by 5 am, be damn sure he will be there a few mins to that. grin grin...

Pic 2: I did like to also give an empirical power consumption review of the FUSHIAI energy-saving fan I purchased from Simydan(Pic 2 attached). It's a decent 30W rated fan with 3 modes namely: Eco mode, natural wind, and Sleep mode, it can be powered via a US device and it's non-rechargeable.

Pic 3: Shows the power consumption of the device when in rotation and when still.

Disclaimer: I am not DIY savvy cheesy cheesy, but i have been an avid follower of this thread since the early days of George et al., long before the nairaland Tsunami of 2013... grin
