"Oooh mum, you scared us" George said standing on his feet

"Good evening ma" Thelma greeted her shyly avoiding eye contact with George 's mum

"how're you sweetheart?," she replied

"i'm fine ma"

"Mum, you're supposed to be in a meeting with dad" George asked her remembering his dad told him about their proposed meeting.


"I skipped the meeting immediately he told me what happened, i came back to ensure everything is ok"

"Thanks so much mum" he said hugging her

"Let's go inside"

They walked into the sitting room and met Debbie talking to someone on the phone, his mum exchanged pleasantries with aunty Stella, Debbie walked to George 's mum and greeted her

"Good evening mum" she greeted almost on her knees

"Evening dear"

"Hope George didn't starve you"

"not at all ma, he's been nice to us, as a matter of fact, We' re grateful for what he did for us, thank you also for allowing him bring us into your home, we really appreciate, i just finished talking to my mum on phone, she said we should return to the house that she's close to the street, i wish to announce our departure, thanks ma"she said

The woman fell in love with her immediately, she engaged her in a warm embrace

"You're welcome to my home anytime, i'm happy my son was there to be of help to your family , take care dear, George see your friends to the door, i need to change and come for dinner "

George walked them home, he returned to meet his mum already eating.

" Mum you couldn't wait for me "he teased her rushing to the kitchen to get his food

" Sorry son, i'm famished, "she said with mouthful of food

He laughed at her seeing how hungry she was.

"Mum be careful with your food"

She drank some water and gulped down the last food on her plate, she then relaxed watching her son eat

"So tell me son, which of the sisters are you crushing on?" she threw at him

He nearly threw up, he drank some water

"What?, crushing on?" he stuttered

"I need to clear things up before it gets out of control, but i cant talk to Debbie now, this is not the time for such discussions, i will give her time before discussing such issue with her. Her family problem is really weighing her down and i need to be there for her"he thought to himself.

****** It's been months George returned home from school, he's been busy preparing for his second year first semester exams, he's happy he was going home to see his lovely family, his sister was also home for the Easter break,

Debbie 's mum was able to send her husband's sisters back to the village, her husband's will was read and everyone accepted his or her fate, she has returned to her catering business, her children are finally in a private University, they all returned for the Easter celebration, though George and the sisters are in different schools, they still maintained their friendship, they talk and chat on social media.He decided not to tell Debbie anything yet until he's sure of his feelings.

Debbie was in the sitting room chatting on whatsapp with him when her mum returned from her restaurant, she stood up to greet her mum when she noticed someone came back with her, she watched her mum walk in hand in hand with the man.

"Good evening, " she greeted her mum and waved at the man

"Chief meet my eldest daughter, Debbie,"

"How're you?" he asked her

"Fine" she answered coldly

"Errmmmm, Chief let's go to my room and shower before coming down for dinner" she told chief dragging him upstairs

"Mum wait, can i talk to you privately" Debbie asked her calmly

"Sure" she pecked chief and went to meet her daughter while he walked upstairs

"Mum, what do you think you're doing?, how can you invite a man to our house knowing fully well that we are around,what are you teaching us? my late father deserves some respect, and both of you will sleep on your matrimonial bed?, it's abominable and unacceptable, i wont allow you sleep with that pot bellied man on my father's bed"Debbie said scornfully

"So because you entered the University,,you now think you can challenge me in this house, this house is now mine, and i decide on what happens here, if you still want to further your education, you better learn how to keep your mouth shut" her mum warned

"So it has gotten to this, threatening me, mum well done,"

"What's the fuss about? Thelma asked in confusion rushing down the stairs

" Thelma, mummy broughta man home !!! "Debbie screamed

" What?, mum?, a man?, why?,"

" Both of you doesn't seem ready to enjoy your vacation, if you're not comfortable with my decisions in this house you can return to your father's people "she threw at them climbing the stairs

Debbie and Thelma were shocked

" Mum it's not upto two years dad died and you're doing this, i'll never forgive you for this"Debbie told her amidst tears



******** George wanted to surprise his parents and didn't inform them f his arrival, he returned early and went to his room, his sister went to a family friend's house for a Thanksgiving service and would return the next day, he showered, ate and got busy with his laptop, neither Debbie nor Thelma have replied his messages, he was eager to see them again as it's been long he saw them, he glanced at his wall clock and screamed, it was getting late, he heard his mum drive in and decided to allow her rest before going to meet her,

It's more than thirty minutes his mum returned home, he went to her room to meet her, he slowly pushed the door open to see his mum crying, he was shocked

"Mum!!!!" he called her, she sprang to her feet and tried wiping away the tears on her face

"George!!!!!," she hugged him tightly

"Mum what is going on, why are you crying?,"

"Was i?, i wasn't crying dear" she stammered

"Mum, you and i know you are lying, and if you dont tell me the truth, i will leave this house and never return" he threatened her furiously

"I'm sorry son, but i cant take it anymore," she brought her phone and threw at him

George was in short of words as he saw his dad hugging and kissing a young girl, he was having fun with the girl,

"Mum, how did you get this?, when did this start?" he managed to ask her

"Your dad have never loved me, he's been pretending to love me in your presence, our marriage was an arranged one, i love your daddy so much but he prefers going after young girls for pleasure, he has wanted to divorce me but i begged him to allow me stay with you and your sister, he has been sleeping outside with his girlfriends in the name of board meeting, this has been going on for years, your father is not the saint you think he is, i have tried my best to keep this family in unity, i thought he would change but he never changed, rather it became worse, George i cant take this anymore, the shame is too much for me, a friend of mine sent me the video and pictures"that was the last sentence George heard before passing out.

"George pls dont do this to me, i need you and your sister around to support me, i cant fight this alone," she said sobbing

She rushed down and called the driver and the gateman to help her carry George to the car.

She wished she never said those things.
