CHAPTER 5

*****George stared at his parents in confusion, his mum was in his dad's arms smiling at him, he doesn't understand what was going on, this was a woman that was crying her heart out few hours ago, he watched his dad smooched her shoulders,

"Sweetie, i told you nothing will happen to him" he said pecking her

His mum nodded

"Son, thank God you're awake, the doctor said you're going home with us, but what i dont understand is what must have triggered your fainting," his dad said

George was in short of words, he looked at his mum and the pains he once saw on her face were all gone, she was all smiles holding unto her husband, he was more confused.

" Sweetheart, do you have any idea what happened to him since you were the only one with him at home when he passed out" his dad asked turning to his mum

"Baby, i was shocked to meet him lying helplessly on the floor" his mum replied

George 's eyes nearly popped out at his mum' s lie.

"Mum?" he muttered

"Yes son,"

"Are you OK?" he asked her quietly

"Sure, i should be asking if you're ok, you 're the one lying on a sick bed" his mum teased him

He wasnt buying the pretense,

"What is going on?, Is mum doing this to save her marriage?, whatever it is, i must find out, but i think i should play along with her" he thought to himself

******** Debbie have been his only companion since he was discharged from the hospital, Mirabel travelled to Abuja to spend some days with her aunt, George have kept a close eye on his parents, but they still act as the perfect couple, his mum have never brought up the issue of infidelity again,his dad bought a new car for his mum to celebrate her birthday.

He was at home with Debbie watching television, when he decided to pour out his heart to her,.....


"Debbie, can i confide in you" he asked looking into her eyes

"Sure,i'm always hear for you"

"Have you ever fallen in love?"

She smiled inwardly and thanked God for an answered prayer, she has waited for this moment a long time ago, she has nurtured their friendship, hoping that one day, he will tell her how much he loves her

"Heellllooooo" he snapped at her

"Sorry dear, yeah i have"

"Interesting, so tell me who's the lucky guy?"

She smiled sheepishly

"forget it, my problem is that i'm in love with someone, but i dont know how to confess it to her"

"There's no need hiding your feelings, tell her how you feel before you loose her to another guy"

"That's why i need your help,"

"huh" she asked with a surprise look

"Yeah,i'm in love with Thelma, your sister but i'm scared she might reject my love, i want you to help me talk to her"

"What!!!!!, what did you just say, inlove with who?" she asked with drop of tears falling from her eyes

"I've loved her since the first day i met both of you, but she doesn't give me attention like you do, i've tried getting close to her but she's not letting me in, please i need your help, do you promise to help me?"

"I cant believe this" she said amidst tears

"Why are you shedding tears?, did i say anything wrong to you?, i told you this because you're the only true friend i have"

"errrm, errrrm, George i think i have to get going, i just remembered i need to run some errands for my mum, i'm almost late, i'll call you later" she said rushing out of the sitting room

George was surprised at her sudden departure,but he was happy that he finally followed his heart, he prays she helps him talk to Thelma.


******* Debbie ran into Thelma on her way up to her room,

"Oh be careful sis, you nearly pushed me down," Thelma told her

"Ohhh sorry"

"Why is your face like this?, did you quarrel with your boyfriend" Thelma teased her

Debbie gave her a stern look and briskly passed her ignoring her question

She entered her room and locked herself up, she couldn't believe she has been chasing shadows, falling in love with the wrong guy, she remembered breaking up with her boyfriend because of George, she stayed away from her friends just to be with him, in school, she has refused to look at any guy because she believed she had a future with him,she refused her dinner and slept off sulking.
