How many ppl have parents that meet these criteria. If you have parents who are both level 17 teachers of either Lagos or most importantly Ogun state you should be able to conveniently send |

OBIGS: Well I'm glad you recognize that income from civil service is peanut. It's good your parents engage in business outside their job. I don't see how any civil servant can send their kids to private or foreign university without engaging in private business or corrupt activities. |

Does this man even know that some civil servants go as far as getting loans, some have had it in mind to send their children to private universities since long ago?. It's all about planning. The thing is take for instance a Professor as the father with a wife who is a senior lecturer, them taking a loan of 1.5million won't be too difficult so far as their salaries are consistent. Even now that salaries are not consistent, I have friends whose parents had to borrow to pay their school fees. So it would be unfair to people who are not corrupt in the civil service to say it's all of them that send their children to private universities through corrupt means. God Bless. |

poseidon12:Bro, I know a lot of civil servants with children in private universities. Firstly it depends on the income range and also a lot of planning and obtaining of loan is involved. So him saying that they get the means through corruption should not be generalized. |

faceURfront: Universities where the ASUU members are the main backers of cultism and sexual harassment against the female folk? ASUU like other labour unions in this country has always fought for its Executives pockets not for the collective good. Mention one Nigerian public university in the top one thousand in the world and I will succumb to your presumption. |

babyfaceafrica: Yes, he is actually correct. My HOD in the politics back in 2014 earns 400k basic salary, not talking about other benefits. Most of them use their affluence to collect contract, which hinders them from having time for their students. The FG should answer them, then investigate into those schools have lecturers that are lecturing in other schools. I know one who lectures in a federal poly, also lecture in a private poly, he also collect the contract of NYSC. Most of them claim strike to do other personal things My take is FG should settle them, investigate into our institution. Flush out those lecturers who are not adding to our students' lives. |

kelvinreality: The overwhelming number of senior civil servants who have acquired properties way beyond thier income have expenditure beyond thier income is entirely through racketeering, stealing and misappropriation, simply corruption. Go to Lekki phase1 and you will be amazed how many civil servants own multiple properties there it's not defensible. And yes some have wives engaged in legitimate business but more often than not it doesn't add up. We have judges with millions $ assets in Nigeria, UK and Dubai and we act like it's legitimate and normal. The war against corruption will never under the current structure be won. Irrespective of who is in power APC or PDP it doesn't matter they are all corrupt. And to crown it all the JUDICIARY is intrinsically corrupt and has been for donkey years. And they are supposed to convict people for corruption. 1 Like |

poseidon12: Apart from the basic necessities of life (mostly house feeding, clothing & rent), education must be treated as the greatest priority if we want to grow in this country. Besides, if families that live in one room apartments can pull resources together to buy cow(s) (we see that a lot, and not just that) just to throw lavish parties; why can't they do the same to train a child in school? That should tell you how we define our priorities in this part of the world. We are used to free education that is in the actual sense of it: "lack of education". Majority of the citizens of America that go to school take student loans (despite the tax in such a country that is used to fund education) to pay for tution, because the understand that educatuion is priority. You even wrote building house in the village; what nonsense! Now don't come and tell me that I'm comparing schooling in Nigeria with a developed country that is worth paying for because it is money that built the worth in the educational sectors of academically-serious countries. 1 Like |

Aadeyinka: But same does not exactly apply to schooling in Nigeria, don't you think so? Sending their children to Private schools is still an investment in the system, in the long run. |

A lot of people here have made comments without having information about the civil service and its pay packages, and some have made quick comments only in defense of their parents/sponsors. Generalisation is wrong, but this is so true except for a handful of civil servants. He who wears the shoe knows where it pinches. A lot of civil servants have other sources fully dependent on their civil employment, some with sources hidden from the knowledge of their employer, and some with sources established from illegal gains from their employment - all is corruption. 1 Like |

0b100100111: None of my comment endorsed corruption but critically scrutinized the mindset of the university administrator that said this. And you have not proven me wrong in any way. Now go back and read my previous comment to see that I stated; "for those who can afford it". Besides, the same people can afford cars (yes, any kind of cars!), good treatment, having inherited house(s) of their own, then this is very far from being one of our problems, Also, what the hell if 800k "per year" compared to what public servants are paid every month; "if education is a topmost priority" 1 Like |

majekdom2: That may not be good for Nigeria "except they are run by non-profit institutions". Because if you give all the universities to private investors that are seeking their profit margin, you've further moved education away from the majority. |
