chiogo:I've attended quite a few parties in the U.S(have way more relatives in the u.s than the u.k). In the U.K, it depends on the nationality of the host . I've been to Jamaican Hosted parties where Reggae was hardly played(it was all about ska, rocksteady & most especially DanceHall) |

eldee:Most peeps ca differentiate between ska, Dancehall and Reggae. As soon they hear any 'Jamaican Sounding Music', they automatically think it is Reggae eldee: I tire ooooo. I've told her loads of times FL Gators:Dream on. Dude would even be flogging your behind if and when you mess up |

FL Gators:Ahhhhh, I rarely use it oo. Didn't know you were looking to download, don't you buy from I-tunes? eldee:I dunno their names, I don't even listen to reggae. But movado is definitely one of them. eldee: chic2pimp:I was messing with y'all. eldee:Obviously, the U.S. is different from the U.K. If they don't play reggae at the parties there, does it mean it's not recognized? Even U.K. music like rap is not recognized unless the ones with some affiliation with the U.S. It's that simple. |

I know, right! For example, Jeremiah Gyang is a singer-songwriter of rare talent… Not only that, he plays guitar, keyboard, percussion, drums, just a natural talent and great all-around guy. |

2 Chiogo: thank you mam. @chic2pimp: rocksteady = reggae; atleast the initial stages of reggae which is slowed down ska/mento. the only thing different is dancehall. (referring to your statement about UK Jamaican parties). |

Well, because many young naija people prefer "foreign", Westernized or Jamonized music, style, etc. One time we did a nigerian thing in school and they played Paul Play Ik Dairo, my teacher who is AA said," he wanted something that sounds more african." I was shocked that he knew the difference since the song is completely in Yourba. |

I've noticed a trend whereby Nigerian artistes try to add 'authenticity' to their tunez by adding pidgin or an ethnic language to their English lyrics. I've always seen this as unnecessary. In many cases it sounds forced and contrived. I see no reason why they cannot simply sing an entire song, or even an entire album, in regular English. Afterall English is our lingua franca. They can add originality by sidestepping the predictable beats that normally accompany US urban music, and creating a different sound to accompany those lyrics. I think the imitation bit comes not when they 'try to sound American', but rather, when they try to sound like certain American artistes such as Ne-yo, Usher, Jodeci, Boyz 2 Men, and so on. They wouldn't come across as imitators if they simply sang in THEIR own lyrical/vocal style, whether or not they 'sounded American', insofar as they're not imitating those individuals. That's when they sound awful. |

If it doesnt sound American, then they have thick accents, if it does sound American then they are accused of being unoriginal!!!!! Make up your goddamn mind people!. |

Wat do u expect, when in a country like nigeria there is no national support for musicians,so d musicians do wat dey hav 2 do 2 be on d top of d chart, even if it warrant copying beats, swags, lines and rhymes,or belonging 2 thier cult ,MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON US. |

eldee: Alot of which she says is delusional. Glad im not the only one to peep that. Jamaican music as a whole is only popular when black americans decide to co-sign it. Once we get tired of it, it falls off...hard. It was hot in the late eighties/early nineties.fell off. Than became popular again via sean paul in the early 2000s. No its nowhere to be seen |

k.o.n.y: Lol @cosigning to someone who I had beef with two yrs ago desperation much? As for reggae falling off....your kidding. You must be. There is always a reggae/dancehall artist on the bb chart and usually they are local but foreignors who admire or are knowledgeable about jamo culture support them. Reggae/dancehall is always relevant amd has huge followings outside of the states. You can play yourself on nl all u want to but dont try it with me. Aas are far from important in the way you wish you were....grow the fck up and stop searching for "mzdarkskin" in the search box. |
