Nonsense, the spirit that returns to God is not a person, it is the life force that God gave to that person and contains the details of that persons life.

You are right in that the spirit is energy, at death the energy separates from the body/clay suit, and that clay suit becomes worthless. That disembodied energy contains all the details of the deeds of the person in past life.

The energy will become one with God for a while, and then reincarnate to pay for the sins/good deeds of past life.

This verse has been misinterpreted to say that we only get to live once which is a very big lie, we live: die: reincarnate: live: die: and reincarnate again, this is the cycle of life.

Now, the secret to unlocking this verse lies in context, looking at the whole picture of the passage holistically.

The secret to this verse is in understanding the use of the relational conjunctions AND and SO, and also in understanding where the place of judgment is.
