If Gowon actually said what's being credited to him on this article then he's really dumb! How can a whole government attend a peace conference without being prepared? How could they go there without a position paper? What did they think that they were going for? Junketing

Here's what really happened in Aburi because I have heard it directly - as discussed by the eye witnesses:
The Nigerian govt went to Aburi and accepted all the proposals, as discussed in the meeting. But when they returned home, the British High Commissioner went to talked Gowon out of it. That's why he suddenly developed a mysterious illness and refused to announce the resolutions reached at the conference. And Ojukwu, a fearless Igbo man, decided to take the bull by the horn and announce the resolutions himself. The rest, they say, is history.

Those that knew what actually happened can related with the fact that Ojukwu did all he did back then out of selfish desires.

They were ill prepared and never had the capacity to confront a national Army. If he's a good and sensible General, he would have realized that the authors of the two world wars that happened before the Biafra war, who probably had more equipment than Biafra still failed. Hence, he needed not to have engaged in any costly war.

He gambled, out of selfishness and ended up failing.

Kanu should learn from the failed war
