Aribisala thanks for this thread.
Till today Ibos tongue is still wagging about the 20pounds and injustice done to them.

They are useless.

In sane countries all the bifran generals after surrender would have been court martialed and summarily executed. Out of his magnanimity Gowon spared the mofos but all thry nag about is 20pounds. Their spirit is stuck there.

In 1970 after the war the Nigerian government generally gave £20 of Nigerian money to every eligible adult but no one has ever done the math.

Let us assume their were one million of them =£20million Nigerian

We know that the Nigerian pound exchanged for £2 pounds sterling in 1970 so
that would be £40 million . What would that be worth today

according to this inflation calculator

https://www.moneysorter.co.uk/calculator_inflation2.html
it would be
£432612859. Sterling
Not sure what sterling is doing these days but @ 475

that is

205491108025 Naira

200 billion

Assuming it was 1 million people that received the money. No one has ever told us how many did but I think it could be double that.

For a country to pay that out immediately after a war of such devastation is a huge feat considering that Nigeria was not even a major oil exporter in1970 and in 1970 oil prices were under $4 which when adjusted for inflation in today's money is $21.

It is a testament to the prudent financial management of Papa Awo who also kept the allocation of East Central state for 3 years and paid it all after the war

But they are not grateful and feel entitled to that payment. What have we done for the NE . Imagine finding 200 billion to give them today when oil prices in real terms are 3 X what they were in 1970

The standard of living was much lower. Let me put it in Perspective our standard of living then, There was no Lagos Ibadan Expressway. No East -West Road. PH to Aba was a single carriage way.The Air assault camp was the main airport in PH Omagwa airport did not exist. There was nothing like presidential jet. Where were the airports?
The country was broke with very little compared to today but still gave generously in the spirit or sacrifice and reconciliation

busted by weed analysis? How much did biafrans have then? Amala and ewedu and egbigiri is bad for your brains

The same lies I've had everywhere - radio, television, newspapers. Name it.

It is on record that Awolowo saved all Federal allocations to the Eastern region throughout the 3 years of the gruelling civil war, and handed it over to their political leaders after the war who wasted it, because they will not hold their leaders accountable.

The same thing is still happening today. Igbos are not holding their leaders accountable but are quick to cry marginalized.
"All is fair in war and one of the weapons of war is starvation. We won't allow our enemies to feed fat for them to be able to fight back."-Awolowo, 12 october, 1969.

Mr, u are painfully ignorant.
not every adult was given 20pounds, BUT THOSE WHO HAD EVIDENCE THAT THEY HAD SAVINGS IN BANKS BEFORE THE START OF THE WAR.

and u seriously think that much paper evidence will survive after a 30 month bitter war that ravaged almost every part of the east.

It had NOTHING to do with bank accounts that is a lie.

£20 was given in exchange for CASH

Biafran Pounds cash

Whether it was one million biafran pounds or 20 Biafran pound they were given 20 Nigerian pounds

It was nothing to do with Bank accounts so stop that lie

Those who had bank acounts had business with the banks not the government.

If you had proof there was nothing stopping you getting back ALL your money

Such paper evidence can and did survive.

Ojukwu got his money and his father's money as did many Ibo elites.

Not all Ibos were in Biafra. Some stayed in Nigeria THROUGOUT. Some were even in the Nigerian Army or made ambassadors

Eboes and lies

All Eboe adults were allowed to exchange Biafra pounds for Nigeria pounds as a GOODWILL and RECONCILIATION gesture

MAXIMUM twenty pounds. It was NOT an entilement

There is ABSOLUTELY NO QUESTION

the £20 payment was for conversion of Biafran pound payments
Re: BIAFRA TWENTY POUND LIE BUSTED by 0monnak0da: 1:13pm On Dec 15, 2018
This myth that those people who had Nigerian pounds had these forcefully appropriated IS A LIE

Yes people felt bitter that they had to hand over their Biafran pounds for whaat they considered a pittance.

Only a heartless person would not sympathize.

But that is no excuse for distortion or LIES.

Government did not seize anybody's money.

If people could not get their money from banks for want of evidence it had NOTHING to do with government. Those who had proof got their money

Ojukwu did

Did Chinua Achebe ever come out to say he could not get his money?

Why is this thread important?

Because many Ibos have been fed an unquestioned lie all their lives and some of them are now parents or grandparents doing the same

The issue is not an emotional one

It is one that is subject to evidential challenge and counterchallenge

Did the Federal Government of Nigeria appropriate the money of Ibo people in Nigerian banks after the war in 1970?

Is there not one Ibo person alive or their child who has a bankbook to show an account where the owner was refused acccess to their funds. NOT ONE
Not even a photograph of a bank book
Not one such person gave an interview anywhere in the 1970s

Thread reminds me of attempts by Nazis and Racist white groups to deny the existence of Holocaust meted on Jews by the Nazi Germany.

Yorubas truly are the problem of Nigeria. Any Igbo man who advocates the continued existence of Ndiigbo with these lots in same country is not mentally stable.

Let's listen to what Sanusi, a son of the caliphate had to say on this issue.

"The Igbo people of Nigeria have made a mark in the history of this nation. They led the first successful military coup which eliminated the Military and Political leaders of other regions while letting off Igbo leaders. Nwafor Orizu, then Senate President, in consultation with President Azikiwe, subverted the constitution and handed over power to Aguiyi-Ironsi. Subsequent developments, including attempts at humiliating other peoples, led to the counter-coup and later the civil war. The Igbos themselves must acknowledge that they have a large part of the blame for shattering the unity of this country.
Having said that, this nation must realise that Igbos have more than paid for their foolishness. They have been defeated in war, rendered paupers by monetary policy fiat, their properties declared abandoned and confiscated, kept out of strategic public sector appointments and deprived of public services. The rest of the country forced them to remain in Nigeria and has continued to deny them equity".

One simple question did the Federal government focefully appropriate Ibo Bank accounts in Nigeria holding Nigerian Pounds in exchange for twenty pounds.

It is not a complex question .

Rather one that lends itself to a simple YES or NO

Pay close attention to this part of Sanusi assessment of Igbo travails in Nigeria. What Monetary fiat was Sanusi referring to? Of course, the twenty pounds policy meant to pauperize the Igbo by the Yoruba intelligentsia, just few months before they pushed for nationalization of foreign firms in Nigeria, which resulted in the majority of the companies ending up in Yoruba hands, having made sure the Igbos were in no position to challenge them for those firms, via the Monetary fiat (20 pounds policy), instigated by Awolowo and his Yoruba cabal.

We do not need to speculate

Provide facts
Did the Federal gover ment take the money in Ibo bank accounts?

You are always emotional liars

Here you invoke Awolowo what has he got to to with Twenty pounds

Few months before they put companies in Yoruba hands

So the companies were gifted to Yorubas? lol

FYI

immediately after tthe war in 1970 Awo gave Gowon his resignation notice letter and left the government in 1971.

After Awolowo Shagari became the Finance Minister from 1971-1975 FACT!!!

The indigenization decree was promulgated in 1972

These are the myths and lies your grandparents propagated to you out of hatred..

We are not here to discuss indigenization but Twenty pounds myth

A complete fiction that has been dismantled and discredited

Thank God for the internet.

When you google the Twenty pound thing this is one of the hits.

So this refutation is for the record.

Young Nigerians who are not Eboes need to be equipped to challenge the steady stream of Eboe lies that are published in many places.

They need to know how to challenge fiction and what questions to ask these liars

The typical Ibo approach when you rumble their lie is to cchange topic

We are talking about Twenty pound and this joker is talking about Awolowo and indigenizatiion. Again doin so with more lies

Indigenization that was done under Shagari as Finance Minister is somehow Awolowo's problem

Why are Yorubas eager to disclaim this monetary fiat they instigated against the Igbo?

Why are they dying on top of the obvious?

Because they need to cover their tracks. It's akin to how the Ottoman deny and raise several arguments against their genocide against Armenians, or how Pro Nazi Germans and whites have load truck of distortions to disprove the Jewish Holocaust.

The onus is on the accuser to prove their allegation.

Is it not funny that no one can provide a shred of evidence to bak up their absurd claim

By the time they start talking of Armenia you know that there is no evidence forthoming just emotional twaddle.
What has £20 got to do with Armenia
